James is a drummer, that listens with full heart to the band he is playing with. and through this sound he is able to understand what goes on and _what_ to play. he just doesnt do the ultra fuckup things without a reason for the song itself. that is the point. when he blows your mind away, he is doing it with complexity and concetrates or focuses on the drive and emotions he has to give to the part. he is playing with brilliant emotions. James, thank you so much for all those years of deep rythms and motions. I only have one unfullfilled song, that i like to hear again.. its the song from the jimmy chamberlin complex album "life begins again" documentary video, that you were playing with your band. but this song never got out to bigger public. the sound wasn't that good because the cam didn't catch it up. anyway! Your'e doin it right. ;)
I love all the tracks, but "Magick Moon" is my favourite by far! :) Met Jimmy last year at the London Drum Show - a drum hero of mine since before i picked up the sticks all those years ago, and what a nice guy he was, had time for me and we spoke drums for a bit...proper drum hero!
being a drummer is often "marginalized" if I even know what that means, but Jimmy Chamberlin is in a different category, he is like a drummers drummer in an era when real drummers don't even exist
In 2019? Yes, i agree. But from 1993-2000 he was the perfect drummer for them. If you havent yet, i would highly recommend checking out the album Machina.
He was like a shot of steroids into that band that helped them achieve the success they did. His drumming supercharged songs like JellyBelly tonight tonight, zero, on and on
I love him! But this in not very good. He can’t swing, his touch is really heavy, and his comping is the same for every song. The band is very good though. His phrasing and fills don’t swing. Sorry J. And who ever compared him to Elvin Jones. Come on man! Yon need to go listen to some more Elvin.
I was not comparing him to Elvin, mainly because he doesn't play along John Coltrane or McCoy Tyner.. But in this era of processed drums, Jimmy reminds the intensity, energy and musicality of Elvin
0:00 El Born
7:39 Magick Moon
19:34 Dance of the Grebe
31:22 banter
33:32 The Parable
Wow Jimmy Chamberlain is great
On my top three drummers list
Awesome, thank you again
Not only is Jimmy the "greatest" he is the "only"
love jimmy, but dave weckl is better

left foot 8th notes, even when i'm sleeping.
The second he started playing I knew it was him LOL
Jimmy's a killer!!!! The Elvin Jones of the 2000s
2000s? Wtf
Thanks for the upload. Would've been good to see some old tracks in there too. Great show
I didn't know he still performed with the complex - awesome, thanks for the upload!
He works on many projects, shuffling his time. Complex, other Jazz and Fusion, Smashing Pumpkins.
Thank you very much for this 🙂

Guys, come to Phoenix, please!!!!!!!
Jimmy's an interesting player, in a way he's, dare I say, too good to be playing with Smashing Pumpkins.

@@mattspeck435 .....found the a-hole. Stick to lip syncing and air guitar........jesus.
erm ok???? what??? ok we've shifted dimensions to where drums are cooler than sex and it seems like reality is an acid trip!
@ C Nem do you by chance have the first set? Would love to hear it
5 years too late, but i only had about half of the first set and from a poor angle. Just shared it here. ruclips.net/video/MOSToe1zAOo/видео.html

Delete this you are dumb as hell
Clearly you are deaf and have no sense of meter. I feel bad for you.
Maybe his touch is heavy because of where it's being filmed from 😂
I have to agree. He has a lot of skills, but not for this.
