  • We're back to the Avro Heritage air museum's regular classic car meeting for this video. As with previous visits to Woodford in Cheshire, there was a great variety of classic cars in attendance, plus a wonderful pre-war Morris Commercial lorry. We were there in the Mk1 MX5 as neither the 4CV nor Dodge pickup were fully behaving at the time.
Highlights this time - in addition to the Morris lorry - included a Sunbeam Talbot 90, an immaculate Mk1 Ford Consul, Austin A30, Austin-Healey, a 4CV (!!!), P6 estate, a super low-mileage Spitfire 4 Mk2, and a groovy Citroen CX to name just a few.
I was able to grab a few owner-interviews during the course of the morning's perusings - so thanks to the owners of the Rover P6 estate, Citroen CX, Rover P4, and the maroon DB5 that has been in the same ownership for 54 years! Two of the owners I spoke to were over 90 years old, so clearly owning and using old cars is good for the health - if not necessarily the wallet ...
If you haven't yet seen the previous classic cars video I did at the Avro Heritage museum, please have a look through this channel's back catalogue, where you'll find all manner of classic car, lorry, van etc videos to watch.

What an absolute pleasure listening to the chap talking about his Citroen CX, one of the best things about attending these shows is finding people happy to share the story of the cars they own, a great guy with a great car. I’ve only just started on this vid but it’s looking like another one of your gems. Well done.

Love the green Rover P4 and the red 4CV, which is almost as nice as yours! The interviews with the old boys about their cars are a very worthwhile addition to your videos. Can't imagine a modern owner enthusing about their Tesla, even if they have some idea of how they work............

I had a business associate in the early 1990's in Germany who had a W126, a magnificent car, always serviced by Mercedes and unfortunately the engine blew up at 250K kms. Mercedes replaced the complete engine completely free.

Only 14 minutes into the vid, can tell its going to be a brilliant watch. The Citroen suspension spheres are still in use in agricultural tractor and combines. They are used to cushion some hydraulic functions such as front axle suspension, rear implement linkage and the header lift (the bit that cuts the crop) on combine harvesters.

Brilliant! Super cars and enhanced by the interviews with 'vintage' and wildly enthusiastic, knowledgeable, owners. It was a joy to watch and enlightened my early Sunday morning, made even more so by Harley's Bicester video. You two have cornered the classic car genre market! Thank you, and I look forward to watching more from you both. To be frank, due to my incompetence and non-social media nous, I am all at sea with both of your videos which on my steam laptop are all out of sync. But all thorougly enjoyed!

A most interesting video - enhanced greatly by including the interviews - especially the Rover P4. I have owned quite a few Rovers myself, mostly Land Rovers, however, just before the end of the 90s, I bought a Rover P5 Coupe. It had the 3litre six engine, and was rather a large car, but it was extremely comfortable wherever you sat in it; driving felt like you were driving a ‘gentleman’s club’ on wheels. It was certainly a heavy car, and although it pulled well enough for modern traffic, the top speed was just a fraction below 100mph. My current car is anything but classic - being Jaguar XJ 351 Portfolio, this car carries luxury & comfort to new levels; even having massage seats in the front and an incredible infotainment system.

Great video R & H, like the owners ' stories , would love the 1961 Essex registered Vespa 400 in original paint - find another one of these ? !.Like you , love the elegant Sunbeam-Talbot 90s , we owned a '49 Mk1 ( bought for £30 ! ) when I was 17 , the first car driven solo on the day I passed my test in an Austin A40 like yours !.The Mk1s are now mega-rare, with foglamps instead of the front 2 air intake grilles and the only series with rear spats which were quickly dispensed with as they were rust traps .

  • @tomcat7525

The contrast Vespa 400 to Merak is shocking, from the ridiculous to the sublime. Rover P4 a lovely classic and the owner told an interesting history. 👏

A nice look at a Healey 100M, mine was the 100. So no louvred bonnet, but happy memories. So another nice big tick in a big box for me. There was another big tick as well. The Corsair, I remember a very pleasant journey to San Pier GC in the back of one of them. It was an eye opener as that was one Ford I did not think much of. It cruised down the bits of motorway between Swansea & past Newport at well in excess of 85mph, pre 70 limit. Its owner worked for Ford in Swansea as the Safety Manager. They were rare cars then, never good sellers. It was a manual not an automatic.
I see you got to sit in a very nice Rover. That series of Rovers were very nice, but in my youth when they got old they tended to rot underneath. The usual problem inadequate underbody protection. It took many years to cure this failing in cars & some were worse than others. We have far more knowledge how to look after cars now. But my memory is unfortunately tainted.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  Год назад

I think P4s were (are) mainly prone to rotting at the back end underneath, but after 60 or so years I suppose they and cars of that age can rust pretty much anywhere given the chance. Thanks for watching.

My three to take home this time, as an estate car man, 1 the Rover P6 estate. 2, the MK1 Ford Consul , memories of Uncle George in the late 1960s with his hand painted light blue Consul. He made a good job of it as well. That's what folk done back then, as did Mr Wady our neighbour hand painted his Hillman Husky. And 3, the Ford Corsair of which I owned three.
Now don't laugh one of which HMP896B was haunted.
Shame I can't go into detail on here, I ended up trading it in for a new Fiat just to get rid of it.
I also love the Sunbeam Talbot 90 and P4 Rovers , but can only choose three. Enjoyable video Richard. Cheers 🍻
