@@Tigershark_3082 I hate to say the A-4 was very "intuitive" to fly since I feel that word is over used. We had fun with the A4 in New Zealand! The HMS Invincible came to New Zealand in 1983 after the Falklands War. We gave them a good old Kiwi welcome and sent out and skyhawk air raid when they were off the coast. We caught them by surprise! They didn't see us coming and didn't detect us on radar, they couldn't get the Sea Harriers scrambled in time. Two Sea Harriers stayed on shore at our base and did air combat training with us. We had sidewinders so when it came to dog fighting the Harriers found out that the skyhawk could beat them in a dog fight. One Harrier tried the Viffing trick on a tailing A-4 and the pilot somehow did a sharp turn and fell in behind the Harrier and got a guns kill. We got a full upgrade in 1987 with F-16 radar and avionics. We could now use the aim-9L sidewinder, Maverick and lazer guided bombs. We managed to get kills on F-18's, F-16's and F-5's in war games with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Australia. In the 1990's we did a simulated attack of an Australian Airforce Base RAAF Tindal. We sent x5 skyhawks and the Aussie defended with x4 F-18 Hornets. We fought our way into their airspace and shot down all 4 Hornets without a scooter loss. The A-4 is a fierce war fighter with the right training, avionics and weapons.
Well said. My British friends talk about how well the Sea Harriers did against the Argentinian Skyhawks during the Falklands conflict. A Skyhawk configured for ground attack is an easy opponent for an interceptor/fighter. If configured for A-A with sidewinders and a decent gun (not the Colt Mk. 12), the Skyhawk matches up quite well with the Sea Harrier, even superior in some respects. Glad to hear about the Scooter being used to it's full potential!
@@19580822 yeap, exactly, i always hear that the harriers where much better than the skyhawks on the farklands / malvinas war. The skyhawks in the other hand were configured as a air-surface role, and they did quite well on that (ask the ships in the seafloor of souther atlantic if they know), also helped by some ballsy argentine pilots. The only A-A missiles that argentina had at the moment was the magic 1, wich was completely obsolete and designed for slow moving targerts like bombers. As a Kiwi aviation geek who grew up watching the Skyhawks at air shows I am keenly aware of these events. It really fit well with the whole kiwi spirit in general. New Zealand still has an Airforce. But yes now days without a jet strike wing. With the Orions which are not just survelliance aircraft, but also, anti sub, anti shipping aircraft. (Shortly to be replaced by P8 Poseidons.) They still, in my view, (just) make it into having an Airforce. But without them, really, the RNZAF would simply be an Air Corps. Based on transport, (Hercules Boeing 757s Beechcraft aircraft etc) - choppers and training aircraft. But as a NZder i understand your comment.
I liked the Blue Angels way better when they were in A4's. Of course the FA18 is a more capable aircraft, but the A4's roll rate and turn is amazing. Way sharper, faster maneuvers. And this guy did his demo with two fat drop tanks!
Legend, this is on my build list maybe this year, people are complaining I have too many MiGs but this is one of the best fighters from the Vietnam era although in that war they one of the most used ground attack planes for hard to hit close in work.
Comment section: 1. One of the best air display videos 2. A4 great design 3. Saw one 1993 Reno, same airframe? 4. Is the seat working on civil jet? 5. Regarding the original intent of Mil Jets, Navy/Sen McCain in this case, I always wondered when a pilot has to stop flying(Shot down) lose the urg to fly and in Sen McCains case survival was number one. Of course his ordeal with injury and torture made him forget about the thrill of flying a jet. Has he written a book about his Navy career and capture?
When in combat it’s very important to not make your attack runs predictable. It’s wise to make the attack runs and departures in different directions. That’s to make it difficult for the enemy to shoot at you.
Ahhh back when jets were simple to use and simple to maintain. If you have a chance to get into an A-4 cockpit, look around where the placement of the gauges and switches are. It is literally idiot-proof.
Fact about the engine of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. They are used in the boeing 727 and boeing 737 200. The best plane for seeing the engine in action is a boeing 727.
You must talk with Argentine Air Force and Argentine Naval Aviation pilots that used this plane in Malvinas conflict!!!, as well as in Vietnam US Navy and Marines, Israel and, and, so on.....!!! very "rugged" plane proved in combat all over the world!!! Skyhawks Forever!!!!....
They were very rugged aircraft! One of those great airplanes that's been forgotten. Airplanes need to be proven in battle to see if the investment was worth it and the A4 proved itself time and time again. It was well worth the investment for the US and the same can be said for my favorite airplane which is the f-15. Until the F-22 and the F-35 are proven in battle, old school aircraft like the 15 and the A-4 will still be superior in my book.
@@iaidagger8278 don't forget the NZ air force with the A4k, they put f16 avionics in them and had some impressive results. Draken international fly them now as aggressor aircraft for pilot training.

Well...not really. Maybe compared to a Cessna yeah, but for a tactical jet it was pretty simple. It is by far and away the easiest plane to keep serviced and flying the Blue Angels ever flew.
It wasn't bad, compared to today's birds yes. It took avg of 6-8 hrs to pull and replace the engine in one. Had to literally split it in half, tail section comes off and engine slides out. The F18, open a few panels and engine is out in maybe an hour. But otherwise a simple jet to work on, left my share of sweat, blood, and skin on them in my 8 years of wrenching on them
So this aircraft outlasted the the Corsair2 designed to replace it? Or it just kept going? And it was designed to replace the Skyraider which also didn't expire when the a4 arrived. Interesting but it suggests that making and selling military planes is a business.
aaron8862006 God damn that announcer is fucking annoying. If you ever been to an airshow and that announcer is narrating skip stewarts performance you would really want to yank the mic away. He will talk so fast he slurs words and miss speaks. Another annoying announcer is Rob Rieder or ryder .
aaron8862006 I've been to air shows where the announcer felt he had to talk the entire time . Maybe he thought he wasn't going to get paid ? And of course there had to be these giant speakers right in front of you, every few feet so you could not get away from them .
what's the g limit with those drop tanks on? Too much trouble to ditch them for the "aerobatic" demos? How would this A-4B compare to a hot rod like A-4E/F or even M in this demo role?
Unlike modern airplanes, there were no sensors on board that would actually electronically limit the amount of G that could be pulled based on aircraft weight, altitude and airspeed. The flight controls were hydralically boosted so in theory you were limited to what your arms can pull. The fuel tanks when empty only weight about 200 pounds each (300 gal tanks and weighed about 2000 lbs full) so they weren't a huge issue as far as G but more of an issue for drag. I forget the numbers from the NATOPS manual but a light on fuel A-4 should be able to pull about 5.5 G's without causing adverse effects to the airframe. Routine loft, toss and over the shoulder practice ordnance deliveries called for a steady 4G pull to the vertical when the bombing computer would release the munition and pilot would gain separation by completing an Imelman and escape the blast area. Four "G' turns were also standard when coming back for the "break" at home base or the carrier.
The hot rod of the bunch was the "F" model affectionately called the Super Fox. It had the larger thrust of the J52 P408 engine and was about 1000 pounds lighter in weight than the subsequent "M" version.

P-8 can come with 5 hard points for airto ship missiles
I 💗 A-4 Skyhawk Congratulations
Always one of my favorites.
I liked the Blue Angels way better when they were in A4's. Of course the FA18 is a more capable aircraft, but the A4's roll rate and turn is amazing. Way sharper, faster maneuvers. And this guy did his demo with two fat drop tanks!
I agree but the tanks were empty so keep that in mind
In the two seat trainer configuration, the Skyhawks introduced a couple of generation of Naval Aviators to Advanced Jet.
Ok now bring back an F-14 Tomcat for airshows please
Joseph Ramirez have to steal em back from Iran , all the others are destroyed to prevent part market
@@leefithian3704 there's a few surviving in storage.
@@Paradise_Arms I would be relieved to know it as real
@@leefithian3704 Yes,Thank you George the Weasel Bush.
I have heard so much about the A-4C Skyhawk, but never got to see one in action.
Legend, this is on my build list maybe this year, people are complaining I have too many MiGs but this is one of the best fighters from the Vietnam era although in that war they one of the most used ground attack planes for hard to hit close in work.
One of the most beautiful military jets ever built.
I was an A4 plane captain with VF43 from 1977 to 1981. It was a truly great little dog fighter.
Comment section:
1. One of the best air display videos
2. A4 great design
I was a plane captain in VA-43 at NAS Oceana 1968-69 training aviators for Vietnam. Great duty. Super airplane …
Perfect music in the beginning. Van Halen’s official music video featured the Blue Angels using the A-4.
I love the Scooter.
When in combat it’s very important to not make your attack runs predictable. It’s wise to make the attack runs and departures in different directions. That’s to make it difficult for the enemy to shoot at you.
Amo a los A4 (B,C Y Q) Skyhawk! Nobles guerreros por nuestras Malvinas! Nuestros grandes pilotos los valoran mucho! Saludos desde Argentina!
SI claro pero, los SEA HARRIER BRITANICOS DERRIBARON 23 DE ESOS DOUGLAS A4 Skyhawk sin poder derribar NINGUN Sea Harrier Británico en Combate aéreo!!
Cool plane.. we flew A4 Skyhawks with our RNZAF.. Thanks 👍🇳🇿
Ahhh back when jets were simple to use and simple to maintain. If you have a chance to get into an A-4 cockpit, look around where the placement of the gauges and switches are. It is literally idiot-proof.
Many of times back in the day when they would let dependents hang out on T-line all day.
My fav was the Marine Corps OA-4M.
Just like the Skyhawks they should bring A6 intruder demos back.
Fact about the engine of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. They are used in the boeing 727 and boeing 737 200. The best plane for seeing the engine in action is a boeing 727.
Skyhawk y F4phantom... Mis favoritos... Saludos desde argentina... viva la Paaatria
I'm like right next door to this... Him and his T-2 Buckeye buddies all day everyday
Love the Scooter
Best plane ever built!!!!! a real "pilot´s plane"!!!
IAI Dagger how so?
Argentina loves this !!!!!!!! You know why?
Yeah, very small, easy maintenance, big payload and if I remember correctly they upgraded the Argentina Skyhawks with F-16's radar or some parts from the f-16. Great aircraft!
One of the GREATS!!!!!!
Might midget in 50s.
Such a great flying aircraft.....
High nose wheel due to the ability to carry a nuke..
beautiful

A-4 is a bad ass little Plane!!
Fun fact. The A4 wing is the same size as one of the F14's rear horizontals.
Lol I was watching warthunder videos about this and some how this came up as a relevant video... However thank you for sharing.
Aggressor role in top gun movie 1986
Old jet but still beautiful. 👍
Cool A-4 Skyhawk
When I was studying Aeronautical my teacher tells me this is a mechanics nightmare 😂
Well...not really. Maybe compared to a Cessna yeah, but for a tactical jet it was pretty simple. It is by far and away the easiest plane to keep serviced and flying the Blue Angels ever flew.
Someone lied.
Still the best aircraft of the Blue Angels....
love those a-4 scooters
Yes,
A LOT of fun to fly but a heck of a problem in cross-wind/wet runway landings!
Muy bonito video 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏del A4 que gran aeronave💟

Otherwise the engine coulda failed
Good eye!!!! I missed that

@@adamsaffell2361 it looks like it hit the left wing and the engine will be fine its a very small bird
The need for the "tall" gear is the fact that at the time of the plane's design nuclear weapons were large, thus the tall gear.
AB out but no flaps, spoilers. Is that typical for airfield landings?
Typically no, but he is flying light and plenty of runway so no need.
Ah, the air show announcer that insists on ruining the jet noise with BS.
Great comment!
aaron8862006 God damn that announcer is fucking annoying.
ALL airshow announcers should be shot. Embarrassing LOUD BS without shutting up even for a second, so you can hear the aircraft.
They are a breed unto themselves. Utterly clueless. No airshow left unruined.
what's the g limit with those drop tanks on?
All airshow announcers must be expelled from all airshows! They make my ears bleed!
Is this plane supersonic?
No.
Harrier owned these in '82
I remember watching the Blue Angels flying the Skyhawks when I was a kid :-)
Ese sonido me recuerda los a4kyhawk combatiendo en malvinas
