      It's Joel loved the vid Joel, would you ever look into getting a race chip installed to you z4? I probably wouldn’t to mine because mine is definitely fast enough the way it is! But I think it could be good for your car. It boosts the horse power a bit by opening the fuel valve more to allow slightly more fuel to go through. The mpg might go down a bit but if you don’t like it it is reversible. But thanks for the great content!! Keep it up!

    I think u right mate. Your cars up there in mileage and it just wouldn't be worth spending heaps on mods. However, as u said the small stuff is still fun and worth doing. I'm constantly doing mine but my motors only on 89k and I know I'll be keeping it for some time. U mentioned it wasn't your dream spec. Mines not got cruise or heated seats. For me the Z4 is all about the drive, and how it makes u feel. As soon as u sit in a Z4 it just screams DRIVE ME HARD NOW! lol. Which is y i love driving mine. We did 306 miles on convoy day mate, and honestly it was a joy. My wife and I hadn't done anything like that since we first met in the 90s sharing a passion for the original minis. So I can only thank you again for arranging the drive as it brought back so many good memories. Your Z obviously has a positive effect on you, given how much channel content it receives. So I can only hope u stick with 1 or that the M6 makes u feel as inspired. Look forward to hooking up again mate, hope u haven't fallen asleep reading all this😂😂😂. Take care........ drive safely lol.

    I have a similar situation. I am nearing 150,000 miles on my Z. I have made extensive modifications, which I am please with. I do not plan to make any more for the reasons you stated. I plan to keep my Z and I also plan to acquire another BMW within two years. I don't know what series yet. Our Z's are unique as they offer a different kind of ride no other model can match. My root to driving are sports cars and I regret not having every one I no longer possess. You joy in driving yours is what attracted me to your RUclips channel. It is a commonality we both share.

    When I eventually find myself a decent 3.litre Z4
    I'll be joining you all on future meets .
    I know a few utubers , including what money they get from it .
    & "It is hardly anything folks",
    Yet it takes a lot of time , a surprising amount of time in fact, arranging everything so they have new content regularly, & its not as easy as people imagine, all the aggravation cameras busting , or finding out you have no sound after spending ages on something, then theres all the editing , I didn't realise how much time/ effort goes into every vid , I honestly wouldn't have the patience for it at all,
    Which is why its brilliant that people like Joel make them
    So people like myself can just turn on ,watch and enjoy.

    Hi Joel, thanks for your video not to change the z4. I bought the car back then because it gave me a certain sense of life and i fell in love with this model. The engine with the six-cylinder is one reason, the other is to leave the car as lifelike as possible. Of course i have some changes to the tires to make them wider on the road. In germany the z4 has gained in value again, so we both will probably be quite old:))

    i agree with what your saying from your position, i would advise that you should keep an eye open for alloys at a fair price, because gun metal grey alloys on a black car in 18" size will give you enough space for a comfortable tyre and transform the look of your car, nothing will else will make it look better for the price. i did that for an old focus st, spent a year looking got a cheap pair of silver ones, spent 200 on spraying them a nice grey colour and it transformed it, if you keep an eye open you could get a set for 400, maybe even 350. Crucially though i reckon youd get that money almost fully back when you sell it.

    My Z4 3.0si is not a low milage, but it is reliable and a blast to drive, so when anything breaks, I ponder if I should just fix it... or upgrade it.
    It is never easy to upgrade, a front turn signal bulb went out, and I opted to upgrade to LED in steps. I purchased two LED bulbs as a test, but despite the cross referencing... it did not fit. That was a bust.
    I did replace the 3rd Brake Light, the plastic was cracking around the edge so I picked up a white with red LED replacement. Not a major mod, but not an expensive mod, but it does look much better.
    It took a bump on the front grill, so I opted to replace with a black mesh. Great appearance, but not so easy to install. So I'm still installing mounting brackets to achieve the look I want.
    Some small items seem easy to upgrade, the antenna was a pain with the car cover and looked shabby, so I picked up a stubby replacement. But it had a male thread, as did my base. So... order a new base?
    None of these are big ticket items, but every penny does count. But if the end result makes me love the car more, it was worth it. I'm not planning to sell it, or to keep it... I just want to enjoy it now.
    One additional item, my engine stays stock. The 3.0si engine is already tuned to the edge, so any changes might lose the reliability. But, I will replace the mufflers soon with a MagnaFlo.

    • @FitFast8
      @FitFast8 5 лет назад +1

      Your base has a male thread? You sure the thread from the aerial didnt rip off in the base? Bit of WD40 and soak overnight to ease it if it is.

    Modify? No. Maintain, yes. I secretly hope (though sure I’m not the only one) that the Z4s will start to appreciate in value in a couple years or so. So it’ll be the looked after examples that will be the most desirable. Mine has retired to sunny weekend use only and would certainly benefit from a reasonable attention. But until/if prices start to move in right direction, big ticket ‘nice to have’ items will be kept on the back burner.
    By the way, as a daily Z4 driver, do you find any significant loss of grip on wet roads? Ive really lost a lot of confidence in mine recently. Not sure if it’s the road going from a dry to wet spell, or something wrong with the car.

    • @prontopac
      @prontopac 5 лет назад

      I agree with you maintain thought, but it sadden me to think that the only value you place in your Z is it appreciation. If you've have over 25,000 miles and you have not restored it to factory specs, you're fooling yourself. Drive it or store it. Sadly, I don't think you can have it both ways.

    • @alunrees3056
      @alunrees3056 5 лет назад +1

      prontopac That’s a fair comment, but don’t get me wrong, I do value it for what it is. I love driving it. I chose the Z4 other other cars for the 2 seat, front engine rear wheel drive layout and fantastic smooth torquey NA engine.
      Any appreciation is a hopeful bonus, I don’t expect for a minute mine will fund my retirement. It’s kept as sunny day “toy” as it doesn’t serve my needs as a daily driver.
      Happy motoring! :)

    I own a 2004 2.5 e85 brought it on 90odd thousand on the clock, it’s now on 105k only drive the car when I’m not working.
    Modifying the e85 shape isn’t always a big money loss because the platform is a e46 so suspension is the same, I brought a clean few month out set from a e46 touring! Wheels are pretty easy to keep in good condition and can be sold when finish or put them on the next car...
    Detailing, no reason you can’t give ago yourself or if your not that confident, Clay bar wax etc etc is easy.
    Depends if you’re at a cross road where your head is so set on the m6 you can’t be bothered on the car, I’m at that part now all I want is a e46 M3 but like you other stuff comes first (house etc)

  • @unixnerd23
    @unixnerd23 5 лет назад

    Thing with miles boils down to how long you want to keep the car. You can easily run it way past 200k with good maintenance, but it gets expensive if you have to pay someone to do it for you. My E46 touring is at 165k and I've had it 7 years. It's the wet weather car (E30 or Z4 for sun, RAV4 Mk.1 for snow). I've decided I don't like E90s and manual 325/330i tourings go for silly money IF you can find one. So I'm going to keep it until it dies, hopefully many years from now. With that in mind next year I'll likely renew the shocks and a few other bits. Rust & interior wise it's in good shape.
    So you just need to decide how long you want to keep your Z4 and budget accordingly. No intention of "upgrading" mine, don't like the newer heavier and bigger Z4s. I've spent time getting it the way I want and I'm very happy with it. Just wish it was red!

We bought these cars (z4) not to make a financially sound decision, but to make our drives filled with joy and excitement. Do whatever you want with your car. I've not gone for the factory cup holder, looks like it'd drop boiling hot coffee on my knee one day. Shame.

    Buying a car and doing stuff to it is a big chunk of car-youtube content.. maybe cheap/DIY is the way forward for now.

      Once the leaves come off the trees you'll get it for 2500. Every convertible I've bought I've driven home in the snow! Much cheaper.

    If you pick up your mods second hand you can pick up real bargains... most mods can be removed and transferred to next car (should you pick another z4) or sold in some cases for more than you bought .... .... it’s like not putting gravy on your chips.... yeah sure it takes time to make, cost bit more money and only goes down the same hole right??! ..... but dude you’ll enjoy your chips so so much more with it !! ...... we only live once ... spank that bitch up..... enjoy yourself and learn from it 👍............ nice channel by the way.... see you at Zed fest 👍👍

    Solution: buy another car and start the modding. 😉
