It's Joel loved the vid Joel, would you ever look into getting a race chip installed to you z4? I probably wouldn’t to mine because mine is definitely fast enough the way it is! But I think it could be good for your car. It boosts the horse power a bit by opening the fuel valve more to allow slightly more fuel to go through. The mpg might go down a bit but if you don’t like it it is reversible. But thanks for the great content!! Keep it up!
Thanks for the videos. I actually purchased a Z4 last month because of your enthusiasm. Please keep the updates coming, very interested in your journey. Cheers from CA, Mate!

Great video Joel. I can certainly see were you are coming from and think that eventually you have to weigh up the cost against the age and mileage of the car, and besides I do think the Z4 is perfect just the way it was originally designed and I love mine to bits.
My Z4 3.0si is not a low milage, but it is reliable and a blast to drive, so when anything breaks, I ponder if I should just fix it... or upgrade it. Hi Joel, I'm from Wisconsin USA and have a 2006 3.0si roadster. Just wanted to say thanks for your great videos and to keep up the good work. I do have a suggestion for a video about car audio. There is a lot of confusion as to weather the radio can be replaced in a e85/e86. Maybe it would be something you would be interested in doing a video on. Thanks again.
Nah that’s dumb. If you get wheels, you can sell them for exactly how much you got it for. (Except tires) detailing… come on man you can detail your car for $10. All you gotta do is buff the paint which is so easy to do and spray ceramic coat ($15). I think the real reason he doesn’t modify is because he doesn’t know how to. He’s not that kinda guy
Do not waste resources on modification of an NA engine due to lack of power gain, I completely agree with you on buying a house and travelling. The performance gains of modification of the e86 is not worth it, the only mods I would recommend is an LSD.

So it’ll be the looked after examples that will be the most desirable. Mine has retired to sunny weekend use only and would certainly benefit from a reasonable attention. But until/if prices start to move in right direction, big ticket ‘nice to have’ items will be kept on the back burner. By the way, as a daily Z4 driver, do you find any significant loss of grip on wet roads? Ive really lost a lot of confidence in mine recently. Not sure if it’s the road going from a dry to wet spell, or something wrong with the car.
I agree with you maintain thought, but it sadden me to think that the only value you place in your Z is it appreciation. If you've have over 25,000 miles and you have not restored it to factory specs, you're fooling yourself. Drive it or store it. Sadly, I don't think you can have it both ways.
prontopac That’s a fair comment, but don’t get me wrong, I do value it for what it is. I love driving it. I chose the Z4 other other cars for the 2 seat, front engine rear wheel drive layout and fantastic smooth torquey NA engine. Been looking for a Z4 and came across the channel. Originally was just looking for a 2.2 -2.5 but I think the 3.0 is really the only way to go? Just want a summer run around for the next few years, maybe tour around France one holiday.
I own a 2004 2.5 e85 brought it on 90odd thousand on the clock, it’s now on 105k only drive the car when I’m not working. Modifying the e85 shape isn’t always a big money loss because the platform is a e46 so suspension is the same, I brought a clean few month out set from a e46 touring! Wheels are pretty easy to keep in good condition and can be sold when finish or put them on the next car... Detailing, no reason you can’t give ago yourself or if your not that confident, Clay bar wax etc etc is easy. Depends if you’re at a cross road where your head is so set on the m6 you can’t be bothered on the car, I’m at that part now all I want is a e46 M3 but like you other stuff comes first (house etc) To get myself interested in the car again I make some changes to it 😂
How about adding the M steering wheel and knob. That will cost you less than 250 GBP and it will make a huge difference. A used M suspension can be had for less than 150 gbp.
Thing with miles boils down to how long you want to keep the car. You can easily run it way past 200k with good maintenance, but it gets expensive if you have to pay someone to do it for you. My E46 touring is at 165k and I've had it 7 years. It's the wet weather car (E30 or Z4 for sun, RAV4 Mk.1 for snow). I've decided I don't like E90s and manual 325/330i tourings go for silly money IF you can find one. So I'm going to keep it until it dies, hopefully many years from now. With that in mind next year I'll likely renew the shocks and a few other bits. Rust & interior wise it's in good shape. So you just need to decide how long you want to keep your Z4 and budget accordingly. No intention of "upgrading" mine, don't like the newer heavier and bigger Z4s. I've spent time getting it the way I want and I'm very happy with it. Just wish it was red!
Hey Joel.. Thanks 4 your upfront honesty re the future of your Z4. How did you get your headlights so clear? Mine has condensation. Yours are crystal clear and same age as mine.
Dan Chauhan the condensation is easy to fix. Inside the wheel arch is a flap you can remove to get access to the bulbs. Open the flap blast it with a hair drier until it’s dry inside. Check the rubber seal on the flap it will probably be twisted flip it over and lube it with a bit of silicone grease and jobs a goodun.
Thanks Joel, I do appreciate your simple videos like this. Preferring frequent updates and videos and your thoughts on z4s instead of highly edited with contents ones. Although they've got their own appeal too. Joel, what is the difference between z4 3.0si and normal z4 3.0?
The si has the N52 engine instead of the M54, google "unixnerd BMW" and click Engines at the bottom of the page. N52 is Valvetronic and has a light magnesium core, BMWs best ever six. Late N53 version is direct injection, more power and better economy.
Hey Joel, that's for the vids. I'm pretty handy around a bit of polish, I've been paid my friends and family to do their cars because they've been so impressed with what I've done to mine. Maybe I can help you with your car and we can turn it into a video? Reply back if you're interested.
Just a piece of advise, screw the monetary value of the car. Look more at the value it gives you. The smile it gives you. We bought these cars (z4) not to make a financially sound decision, but to make our drives filled with joy and excitement. Do whatever you want with your car. You might end up with lots of money by not modifying it, but you might not be as happy as you would if you were to modify it. You can't put money on passion. but nonetheless, do whatever you think will make you happy!
The M6's V10 has major design and reliability problems, avoid at all costs. If it's got the SMG gearbox that's even worse. M3 every time. The V8 in the six series is a disaster area too. Only one I'd have (and I might) is a 630i manual. Had a 635CSi manual years ago, that was epic.
@@unixnerd23 Unix, if you had an e39 525i at your 30s and have another choice of having another car the rest of your life, what would you choose? I am stuck contemplating z4, e93 m3, 740li.

@@warrmr Thank You Buddy I will try this method.
Where did you get your wind deflector? I like the look better than any I've found so far.
@@unixnerd23 thank you
@@unixnerd23 one of the best website out there! Thank you!
I have a question: how much have you spent on speeding fines since buying the car?
Haha 😂 absolutely nothing...
Mine hit 100k miles and sold it for that reason. Looking at a 335i as it's got the same engine 👌
I sold mine at 126k and bought the 435i. Great engine :)
Hey Joel, that's for the vids. I'm pretty handy around a bit of polish, I've been paid my friends and family to do their cars because they've been so impressed with what I've done to mine.
Maybe I can help you with your car and we can turn it into a video? Reply back if you're interested.
Would definitely be interested in this, for sure! Drop me an email at hello@itsjoel.co.uk - thanks :)
@@itsjoel I just pinged you an email.
Joel, what do you think about m3 E93 instead or the m6?
The M6's V10 has major design and reliability problems, avoid at all costs. If it's got the SMG gearbox that's even worse. M3 every time. The V8 in the six series is a disaster area too. Only one I'd have (and I might) is a 630i manual. Had a 635CSi manual years ago, that was epic.
@@unixnerd23 Unix, if you had an e39 525i at your 30s and have another choice of having another car the rest of your life, what would you choose? I am stuck contemplating z4, e93 m3, 740li.
Great write up on choosing the bmw. Thank you for your website
@@unixnerd23 Unix, what are the bmws that are rising in value in your country? I am in Malaysia and I see only the M3, cars really hold their value, z4 are very low price, but z4m are priced like the e46 m3,
With every car I buy I do the same. Buy it with the intention of doing things and then as soon as I get it I’m looking at the next car and thinking there’s no point doing this that and the other because I’ll be selling it soon 😂
Joel when next z4 event?
You only live once mate. Mods are never worth it financially.
Buy your dream Z4 as a second car :-) best choice ever for me
Some small things you can do!!! But many things better don’t. I like original..... blue side bulbs NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL!!!! I love my z4 this is last prop Germany BMW clean power lots of fun!!! No touch by green peace 🤣🤣🤣
Oh if you get rid of your Z4, pls can I get your cup holders, it's driving me mad not having any :D
Haha, of course!
I've not gone for the factory cup holder, looks like it'd drop boiling hot coffee on my knee one day. Shame.
Will you be getting another Z4 in the future, bud
100%. Can’t say for sure when or what variant it will be though
Joel I would love to support your channel and more z4 videos let me know if you have a Venmo account I don’t use PayPal.
Instagram squad👌🏻
every owner is different.
Buying a car and doing stuff to it is a big chunk of car-youtube content.. maybe cheap/DIY is the way forward for now.
In my town theres a z4 for 3,000 and no one's is buying it 😵
Once the leaves come off the trees you'll get it for 2500. Every convertible I've bought I've driven home in the snow! Much cheaper.
If you pick up your mods second hand you can pick up real bargains... most mods can be removed and transferred to next car (should you pick another z4) or sold in some cases for more than you bought .... .... it’s like not putting gravy on your chips.... yeah sure it takes time to make, cost bit more money and only goes down the same hole right??! ..... but dude you’ll enjoy your chips so so much more with it !! ...... we only live once ... spank that bitch up..... enjoy yourself and learn from it 👍............ nice channel by the way.... see you at Zed fest 👍👍
Solution: buy another car and start the modding. 😉
Get an E89 35is!! You will thank me later!
Definitely would be a sick car to have
Great video, my e85 was also original without modification. Graat car to drive!
