This game was my first ever GTA game and I still remember trying to drive out of Salvatore's driveway and trying to figure out where I'm at since it was my first introduction to videogames in general at 5 years old back in 2010. It brings so much nostalgia looking at gameplay of you driving off Salvatore's driveway.
Found my old psp recently and picked this game back up. It's still pretty great. I didnt even have a save file where I'd left Portland, but i remember playing it for hours and hours in 8th Grade.
@@ScorpionWagyour point about growing up in the 360 era is still out of touch…the psp was in the 360 era they came out around the same time, it’s peak popularity was in 2010. The psp was never in the ps2 era and for someone that can’t enjoy any game earlier than 7 gen shouldn’t be making videos on psp games lol.
@@ScorpionWagI’m not tryna be a hater but I wanted a genuine review of a portable game, if you can’t appreciate 2005 portable games without comparing them to 2008 console that is downright absurd
@@ScorpionWag not hating on the channel man like I said it’s just a very strange opinion especially since you said you grew up with a 360, and the most popular sony console in that era was the psp. (Ps2 was dead and ps3 was lame). i recommend when you get that psp to really dive into that library, the psp was the only handheld that had first party support for that long! Psp is so great I don’t even touch my ps5 anymore, I started collecting cibs 2 months ago for my psp and the library is way better than ds or 3ds. Ur friends are gonna hate you for not shutting up about the psp games u just played. I was going to get a 3ds but there’s like 10 3ds games id play vs 200 psp games. PSPs library is insane. Look into the exclusives
The 3d era liberty city will always be close to my heart. Granted, it did not had a cumsplosion of features, but it had dark and nostalgic vibe. Whoever played the game back then knows what i mean.
LCS is the most nostalgic for me since it was the first GTA I managed to beat, as a kid. I did a ton of the side missions too. I had GTA 3, VC and SA beforehand, but those kept freezing on me at certain points. I later got those three on the Xbox then finished'em. I just see LCS as an improved GTA 3, aside from 3's unique atmosphere. I was sad to kill off Salvatore in 3. I also liked Donald Love, JD, Leon McAffrey, and Toshiko Kasen. I wish 8-Ball had a bigger role in either game.
To put it into perspective, I grew up with the PS2 generation, wich was bigger and looked better than the PS1, but the ones who grew up with PS1 will love PS1 forever for what it was. And people like me know PS1 was important, so I would not discriminate PS1 even though I didn't play it that much. It's all the same with LCS. If you didn't live it on its day, you won't understand that feeling. Playing LCS during 2007 was an experience.
As a kid playing this on the psp, I just found it so interesting and cool that you'd get to play as Toni. I mean they could have introduced a new character, or had you play as any number of introduced characters but they chose Toni. Idk why I thought it was cool I just did lol
Best city of the 3d Era + most of the good stuff Vice City added to the formula + all the tedious grind of VC and SA removed + simple and short missions that won't have you screaming in agony and wishing for a checkpoint system. If Vice City was Scarface, LCS is definitely The Sopranos, and the slice of life-ishness of the story reminds me a lot of the TV show. Best 3d Era GTA for me.
I would love a remake in the GTA V engine, one of the few GTA games that made you feel like a made man, an old school mafia gangster an OG, if you played mafia 2 you know what I mean
Swimming in games is usually terrible, and when there is swimming they always force a mission that really doesn't need swimming, like San Andreas. Liberty city stories did have some side missions like the firetruck rampage which you showed at the end of the video as well as bike/car salesman
I think something you missed is that like you said you didn’t grow up in that timeframe as someone who is born in 1995 who did grew up playing the PSP it was way ahead of its time, and it was shocking that somehow they were able to basically make a portable version of liberty city and vice city just a few years after the home Consol game. Also, you’re forgetting that the majority of GTA games back then we’re just a loose assortment of non-connected missions. Take vice city for instance the first few missions are about you working for the mafia building a drug empire, then some point along the character does whatever he wants and then at the end of the game off he is pissed at you with no build up to it. So for the standards of the 2000s it was fantastic. It’s a reason why people love it. No one saying to compare to something like the Witcher three or GTA 5 but for the time liberty city stories and vice city stories to fantastic video games
It technically was with the mobile port, but then again, it's more of a Port. There's also a fanmade Reverse Engineered version, if you have a PS2 iso file of the game (Or psp, i dunno which one you need actually) and you can play it on PC, similarly to the other GTA games. (I dunno how to set it up tho, but there's probably a video about it!)
I never played this game. I’m born in 1990 and was 11 when gta3 came out just before I turned 12. It was insane. Nothing even close to a game like this existed besides maybe Driver and twisted metal but they were absolutely nowhere near what GTA3 was. Every single person who was anybody had this game. I wrote down cheat codes and shit people gave me from school to take home and spend all afternoon playing. It was amazing. Well I just played it again for the first time in probably 20 years last night and good grief that game is terrible haha. Missions are insanely boring with very little story. It feels so awkward when you pick everyone up in the limo in one of the early missions and get attacked by the triads and nobody is talking. It just feels so empty compared to how I remember it feeling as a kid. So think you’re exactly right that people who say the old gta’s are the best - it’s certainly just nostalgia. Now GTA 4 I just played last year or maybe 2 years ago and that game still beats the shit out of gta5 and any other rockstar games not named red dead.
LCS was my first GTA game and it'll always be special. From a whole ass DnB radio station to Frank Vincent's last time as Salvatore (god rest his soul), I love this game. It has its fair share of flaws like a pretty weak story and its fait share of boring missions but its my 5th favourite game in the series alongside VCS. Plus Toni is hardcore af, Liberty City has the meanest batch of protagonists ever
That was a great game for its time. I got liberty city and ridge racer when the psp came out. Was a good map good cars could plot a route no worries just cruise around. Jumps and nice long road to max out your fav cars. Had couple nice glitch spots where the cops couldnt get past a barrier and you could mow them all down and hide take down helicopters. If you just take it for what it was it was awesome for the limitations of that device. I had heaps fun. Liberty City rocked. My friend had atari ping pong and my first computer was a commodore vic 20. I remember when Doom and stuff came out. Sometimes you just have to have been there and looking back its never the same. Liberty City gave a great experience in that particular historic moment.
I love Vice City Stories but i've never had much love for this one. It's alright, just a solid gta entry but nothing worth replaying, i find it has the least replay value of that 3d era of games imo. The only thing it has going for it is the atmosphere and the fact you play as the most messed up protagonist of the entire series.
The best way to play this game is on Android I installed it for free on happy mod and honestly the controls on that feels much better and ghraphics feels way better and it runs on Vice city's engine on mobile make a video on psp vs mobile on gta lcs

A little off topic, but what are the background music songs you were using? Especially around the 5 minute mark?
The music at the 5 min mark is "Sunny days - Anno Domini". And the others is the Gta 3 theme song and the Liberty city theme song
GTA LCS enjoyer here. Some (most) of the missions are BS and it feels like fighting the controls on PSP. It's still good through
I agree it's an 'ok' game. The most annoying thing about it was the inconsistent difficulty. Vice City on ps2 is better than this.
