    Looking at one on my back porch eating a grasshopper right now… pretty neat to see. Never thought Mississippi had killer beetles. Looked it up and found out I’m very wrong 😂

    These are fantastic beetles that I’ve only seen in the wild, and found predated elytra from. But I’ve never seen one eat before!

    Since they're somewhat specialized in caterpillars, they'll likely do well with climbable surfaces.

    I assume the flipping is for preventing the prey from grabbing hold of the ground and getting away, thus using less energy for the catch. Beautiful species. Thank you for sharing. :)

      Most likely the flipping over is so they can help tear open the insects like how crocodile does when doing a death roll

    I miss mine,I had about twenty of them in a huge bin set up in high school,I once tossed a live pinky mouse in there,and it was gone within three minutes. Haven’t seen any in years,I graduated in 2016.

    I love these guys in the right conditions they will breed. They will live for a couple of years in captivity if given the chance to hibernate. Great video.Cheers!

    I just received a red stripe beetle from bugsincyberspace and it flipped on its back to chow on a freeze dried grasshopper. Lol never knew they did that.

    Is there any way to get them to eat
    I tried everything including earthworms and their preferred prey, caterpillars but he won't even attempt to touch anything I put in there

      @@Aquarimax I tried crickets but unfortunately that didn't work
      The only way I've been able to get it to eat so far what's to grab the beetle I'm gently pressed his head into the food, inducing it to fight
      0
      But this doesn't always work and it's really not ideal

    I'd have liked to have learned a bit more about this beetle - re: can it be bred in captivity or is it only possible to obtain wild collected specimens, etc.

      It is about 1.5-2inches long ? I haven’t handled it a lot, but they are known to bite!

      A Pasymachus warrior beetle is a fairly common one that I have recently started with.

    Found one at work. Tried to pick it up. Worst mistake ever! I couldn't get rid of the smell. I stunk my entire shift of what smelt like rotten cheese.
