2012 Toyota Camry Review - Best-seller improved

  • The reengineered 2012 Camry is good, it just doesn't make for a good story. You see, we understand that along with all the facts and opinions, you want to read a good piece of automotive journalism. And as journalists, we want to write it.
    www.autoguide.c...
    There are plenty of compelling stories out there, from an underdog like Hyundai defeating its rivals, to an "oh how the mighty have fallen" story like Consumer Reports slamming the new Civic. But no one wants to read about a winner that was expected to win all along, especially not when it's done so nine years running.
    True, the new Camry isn't a decisive victor in the mid-size sedan category, although it does stand out in certain areas (namely the Hybrid model and overall fuel economy).

    american fanboys and fangirls still trashing on Toyota lol, the camry has been the best selling car in america for 10 years now and Lexus is est selling in luxury models, outsells all domestics, i'll tell you why, reliability and great resale value and best gas mileage, if you want a car that won't be worth anything after 5 years then get yourself an unreliable POS domestic and stop saying toyota is junk when most people know about their reliability

    Use to only own Honda cars from my first 1987 honda Civic but the transmission went up I traded it for a nice 1995 Civic until the transmission went up. In 1991 I had the money for my first Accord until the transmission went up. In 1998 I got with a friend and I 2 Hondas Accord EX with all the trimmings until botH transmissions both went up. My friend went with a Toyota but I stayed with Honda 2001 Accord EX with all the extras the transmission went up. All these cars were brand new from a reputable Honda dealership. Kids grew up and tried some new Hyundais 2006 Tiburon 2008 Elantra 2012 Sonata 2013 Elantra. (NO COMMENT AS HONDA MADE A MUCH BETTER QUALITY CAR ) My first Toyota 2012 LE 4 Cylinder WOW MUCH BETTER THAN HONDA. the ride is smoother as is the steering, breaks, great no road noise that the Hondas started to let in with time. 180 HP plenty for a family car. The sound system does not need to be replaced as it is 10 times better than Honda. Many cars through out the years Toyota makes the best for the money hands down. Car is not boring could be the drivers. Great handling gas mileage big trunk no squeaks or rattles. I cant ask for anything more in a car.

      You sound like a person who has never changed his transmission fluid and constantly backs out of your driveway and shifts into drive while the car is still rolling backwards.

      Robert Silverman Ford's, Nissan and Honda over the years are know to have weak transmission. It is good that no matter what type of vehicle you get you check up on the transmission and other maintenance but out of all the cars I have spoken to people about they say Toyota are the best when it comes to reliability.

    • @TaijiArban
      @TaijiArban 5 лет назад +1

      @@jasperdilincoln2341 yeah toyota is the best in terms of mechanical reliability but I can't agree with the squeaks or rattle part. Got a 2012 camry xle and occasionally when driving I hear a clicking noise intermittenly every 5-10secs. It gets annoying when you notice it. Toyota really should have worked on the damping a bit more instead of plastic clips all over the place

    The 2007 - 2011 Camry's look a bit better than the 2012. I hope the quality continues.
    I have owed three Toyota’s two Camry’s and one SR5 pickup truck- all these vehicles have been great; low maintenance and exceptional performance and reliability. I hope Toyota keeps the quality in their vehicles. I still drive my 2000 Camry with over 191K. It is sad that American cars in general do not have this reputation, we certainly need the work.

    I have an 07 Camry, bought it brand new. Since then, i never had issues. However, the interior of the car is poorly made. Materials used are fine in my opinion, it's just the way they were put together. This new Camry interior looks a lot tighter, well put together, and overall nice. Exterior of the vehicle is OK i guess, but if i was to choose a car in this price range and category, and if i care about the looks of it, i would choose Sonata, Optima, Accord or Altima. But i dont!

    While the Camry may not the most outstanding vehicle out there when it comes to appearence, it looks okay to me.
    But more important than the looks are the fact that it's exetremely reliable as well as it gets good gas mileage. I drive an 02 Camry that has a little over 140k miles, and the engine performs just as good now as it did when it was new, and other than just routine maintenance, I've never had anything to tear up on me.

    I just drove the car, along with the Sonata, Accord, Fusion, and Malibu on a track. I have to this to say-- the styling is typically Toyota muted, but the inside is very nice looking, and functional. The Camry, in my opinion, handled better, was more comfortable, and I daresay, more fun to drive (!) then anything else there. The Sonata impressed the heck out of me too...but in my ten years selling cars, I've never seen a Hyundai with over 150k miles on it. I will believe it when I see one.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767 10 лет назад +3

    Ever since the IIHS has been crash testing, the Camry has gotten a poor rating, so no, this car is not 'safe.' Also, why should safety be an optional package that you add onto your car when the company itself, very ballsy I should add, advertises safety in their commercials?

    • @christopherstjohn8705
      @christopherstjohn8705 10 лет назад +7

      It's still a safe car. The small overlap test just means if the car was ever in that type of crash it would not perform well. But in side impacts, moderate overlap, head-on, and roller overs the Camry performed well. Small Over Lap test is a fairly new crash test so not many cars passed this area including some Mercedes Benz and Audi. Automakers will soon realize this test is here to stay and will continue to improve their products. By the way the 2014 Camry got a acceptable rating on the small over lap test where as the 2012 camry got a poor rating, this shows you automakers act pretty quickly to improve safety and to meet standards.

      Ahem. The Camry got a good rating. Check the IIHS website again. I guess you hate Toyotas Fsx767.

    • @fsx767
      @fsx767 10 лет назад

      2014 did, not 2012 model year like we're talking about bud.

    • @Bartonovich52
      @Bartonovich52 9 лет назад

      Lots of new cars performed poorly on the small overlap test.. just as lots performed poorly on the overlap test when it was first done. The IIHS isn't a regulatory body.. and with the increasing safety of modern vehicles they've had to tighten up their requirements to have any relevancy. I'd like to see actual accidents where performance in a small overlap collision actually played any part in the safety vs injury or death of any occupants. I'm willing to bet it represents a fraction of a percent... vs roof strength, side impact, and frontal impact from full on to half overlap which are far more relevant... plus methods of collision avoidance like ABS, ESC, automatic pre-collision braking, and lane departure warnings that make crash performance non applicable.

    What I love most about Toyota is no worries for those of us who like to hang on to our vehicles long-term. For example, my 2008 Camry LE has over 50K miles and the only thing I have done is regular oil changes and new tires. Thats right, same stock battery and brakes! Toyota is QUALITY and regardless of looks can stand the test of time. All of my cars will be Toyota in the near future! 2012 Hybrid looks like a winner in its class!~

    amazing car b/c of cavernous trunk space, smoothest trainy, everlasting engine and resale value. The styling is okay at first and not flashy, however, I see tons of old Carmys on the road and their styling is still very moder for a decade of cars! Having said that I think this car design should continue that trend. Price is very competitive also..buy hyundai or kia..thinking you bought a better car than a Camry is either delusional or out of touch. Let's talk 5 years down the road. Camry.

    I think Toyota has done a good job with this one. I have thought the last several Camries were nice cars, but, too boring for me. Now, the SE appears to be truly sport oriented with stiffer springs and sub-six second 0-60 sprints. I am now seriously considering a V-6 Camry SE. Rev-matching paddle shifters! I think it looks nice enough (not as sharp as the last version).
    Also, nice video. It was cool that you showed the older versions of Camry. I like the presenter/ announcer.

    Is it just me, or have Japanese manufacturers been missing a few beats lately? The Big Three, Kia and Hyundai have made huge leaps forward in recent years, but Japan's offerings have been nothing more than more-refined renditions of their existing cars. The new Camry and Civic are perfect examples: overall improvements, but they fail to stand out above their new American/Malaysian rivals: cars with equal build quality, yet more stylish and desirable interiors and exteriors.

But its like Toyota just wanted to say to the competition we’re going to hit back, and they did, cause based on the video they’re pretty much back on top, but its more of a jab than a power punch.

    The SE front bumper could have used a little more inspiration. I think I drew something similar when I was 7.

    it already did...every Toyota dealership I have visited has said they can't get rid of the Camry's, even though the Accords are going for sticker.

    My dad still drives a 1994 toyota camry LE v6 with 300K miles and my mom still has a 1999 toyota camry XLE v6 with 120K miles. They both bought these cars BRAND NEW and are still driven at least once a week. These cars feel sturdy and durable, but the newer camrys feel kinda cheap and not as sure footed as older generations of camrys.
    I do not like the way this camry looks, it looks kinda aggressive in the front and confused in the back.

    I agree with everyone on here, side view of this new Toyota Camry doesn't look great, but I would definitively drive one.
    We have a 1993 Toyota Camry. It is a quiet car and it changes gears very smooth, compare to other cars I drive.
    If I want a good looking car, I would buy a sport car or a convertible car.
    I don't pay attention to other sedans I see on the street as they look very much the same from the exterior.

    Because of lack of sales. Here in the USA and Canada, the Camry is super popular. In Japan, it's home market, it's not so much. They discounted it due to lack of popularity. And In numerous Chinese, Vietnamese, and Southeast Asian markets. And not to mention, it is also popular in Australia.

    Another thing for young folks who adore and revile Toyotas, back in 80's, German cars were very expensive and built with higher engineering as of now. Japanes cars on the other hand was a low priced cars which offered only 4 cyclinder cars. However, you have to give these guys where credit is due for their remarkable advances by pushing Germans to do what they are doing right now. Competitions! 1 famous line for Japanes cars were: "Just change the oil and it'll keep running". 80's hmmm

    take it easy people, I think the problem is the car is still very new and we don't have a familiar feeling when looking at it yet

    I don't think this Camry came out THAT bad, but I do agree that Toyota does typically have boring designs. As good as they are, I really don't like how bland their designs are. It would be nice if the new Corolla would actually look like the Furia concept but I doubt that will happen for some reason.

    this car is much improved than the old Camry. well done. it has a very nice interior, with now good tech features and better navigation. i like how it looks
    now i can really consider this car instead of the Altima, Sonata, and prob the Optima.
    it looks better now, and the reliability brings it up a notch

    The journalist got the horsepower rating wrong it Is 268 hp not 168 hp. I like the fact the Toyota is keeping it's price competitive to hyundai and Kia . I have admit Toyota's are more reliable than most Korean cars you get what you pay for.

    Judging by the millions of sales worldwide a year, and hundreds of thousands a year in America alone, I don't really think they give a damn that you will never buy one ;)
