Im gonna put this door knob in and you'll notice here one of the differences it doesn't have a cutaway for the plates here here it doesn't sit flush down with the door and it won't close right away so we're gonna remove these plates and then
use this insert here that's gonna go in there okay so i'm gonna stick this down in here and pop pop these two plates apart with this flathead
you just take it and turn it and stick it in there turn it sideways like that and these plates will come right off this one comes this way and this one goes out that way now you have this now you can use that in conjunction with this take this and you just slide it over the end and you're going to insert it as one see that bump has to go right in that hole there push it on over and hear that snap now you take it now you can use it for your insert for your door
just kind of knock it in there two door knob halves this is gonna go on the inside it's gonna go on the outside push this all the way in there you can knock it in with a with a piece of wood knock that in flush first lock it in flush now we can put the doorknob in
this side here putting this side on the trick is you gotta you gotta push that in before this side will go so you can see if you just try to do it without putting it on it won't go if you push the button it slides easily on now the trick is to line up both your set screws screw these in as far as you can by hand
okay i've got them as far as i can by hand and you just kind of angle your screwdriver you know you can't come at it straight on it won't let you you're kind of angling it

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed to know since my door didn't have the cutaway. Perfect!!
It would be great to let people know why this is an option. It's not due to not having a mortise cut for the latch plate, it's for doors that don't have a reinforced piece for that mortise cut. Some doors you can't do that for an example alot of RV doors are built with a frame only and no reinforcement on the inside so this piece provides that reinforcement around the latch area.
Well thanks for the tip!!
Saved me. Thought I bout the wrong prehung door. Thank you.😅
Happy to hear this helped!! Thanks for letting me know:)
Looking forward to trying this. I had trouble to remove the old insert from the bedroom door. will try wd 40 to loosen for removal. Hope that works. Not paying $150 plus tax for a quickie repair.
Good luck to you:)
@@DIYTechnician WD 40 worked with the screwdriver sideways and the door lock insert, finally slid out. Saved myself $150 with a locksmith!
Phew thanks for the video. Getting the screws in was a lil tricky. And cute dog
Haha yeah they can be tough. Thanks for taking the time and commenting.
Extra tricky getting the screws in on my door, my ‘63 model bathroom door had a cutout to small to fit the screws and door knob in. Used a dremel to widen the hole a bit and managed to squeeze it in.
Some of it wasn’t in the video shot, but, ya- I was just thinking of a round thingy replacement ( shown). Then you read that a measurement was important. . . But I will start with taking off the handles 1st this time ( lol)
Sounds good!!
Thanks for the video!!
Anytime and thank you for watching and commenting.
thanks your help.
Of course!:)
Thanks!
Heck yes!!!
Yea but my deadbolt isn’t cut out. And the plates don’t come off the deadbolts. So I’m screwed
If it was me I’d give it a little surgical trim job with a skil knife
my second piece wont slide off its got some sort of stupid twist case
You ever get this resolved?
Can we flip the knobs?
The one that goes in the inside part to outside and outside knob to inside?
I haven’t tried that but I think so.
My screws don't fit through the metal plate
Are the holes too small?
When i jiggle my a couple times it just unlocks by itself? Whaf am i doing wrong
It makes me think it’s defective as I’ve never come across that except for really old ones
What’s the piece called? Do they sell it separately
Nope it’s part of the kit you just have to remove it from the other peicr
@@DIYTechnician ok 👍
@@DIYTechnician apparently they do sell it separately but it comes with the latch . It’s at Lowe’s called Kwikset adjustable latch
