This is the Mets I remember growing up in Flushing Queens. I used to watch these games with my grandmother. She used to love Tim Teuffel because he would shake his butt at the plate. She called it the Tueffel shuffle Thx for the memory.
I can relate. These are my first baseball memories - 1988 was my first full season as a baseball fan. I'm from PA & a Pirates fan, my best friend was a Mets fan and the NL East rivalry that year almost turned us into enemies. Funny how time works, all my childhood hatred of this Mets team faded. Or maybe it's just the numbing effect of the 35 subsequent years trying to survive as a Pirates fan. lol
I think Gary Carter was a little underappreciated . Any offense at all from a good catcher is a bonus and he was a genuine offensive threat who could play the toughest position really well.
