I have a pineapple core tool I got off of Amazon. It works and makes cleaning a breeze. It also cuts cleaning time in half.Definitely recommend getting one!
I’ve been freeze drying for a few years now, and I love to freeze dry leftovers. I have such a huge variety of food stocked up. It’s hard to cook for one, and this is the main reason I purchased my freeze dryer. It has paid for itself over and over and over. Another great meal is to cook steaks sous vide, then slice thin and freeze dry. You can’t even tell they were freeze dried after reconstituting. I just ordered a bunch of fruit from Azure Standard. Freeze dried fruit can be used in so many different ways, but my favorite is to put it in home made yogurt and granola with a little drizzle of honey. My grand kids LOVE it!
@@katharvey7324 oh amazing!! I love sous vide steak - I haven’t thought about freeze drying it that’s such a great idea. fruit is one of my favorites too and that sounds like a yummy way to eat it 😁😁
The pineapple corer slicer works great! I have a stainless steel one, (I broke the plastic one), and my grandchildren are always thrilled when I cut up a pineapple with it. I also invested in a small electric meat slicer - which saves hours of work and stores away easily. Thank you for the recipe, I am going to be making this very soon, both to freeze dry and eat, lol
I used to have an egg slicer like the one you bought. It didn't last very long. When it breaks, invest in an OXO egg slicer. It's worth the money. The meal looks delicious.
I had to add another comment… YES.. I am interested in Traeger videos, for sure. Today is the first day of spring here in Australia and I have recently purchased my first Traeger…. I still haven’t used it though.
I have a pineapple core tool thing. I think I bought it at Walmart and it works great. I had a cheap egg slicer like the one you bought. I used it on a strawberry and it broke. I bought one with blades not wires on Amazon. Works awesome on eggs Strawberries mushrooms.
If you put pretty much any kind of protein in the freezer for about 15 minutes, it'll be much easier to cut into thin slices! Just found your videos, we live in AK as well. Keep up the good work!
"Readywise" is really good freeze dried food. I have a bunch of Readywise FD food that I bought in bulk before I got my freeze dryer. Costco sales Readywise FD food in bulk for decent prices. In the TV Series "Doomsday Pepper's" a lot of them had bulk containers of "Wise" Food, which is now called "Readywise." As a matter of fact, I recently purchased the 150 servings bucket of Readywise ($79.99) from Costco Online to supplement my Harvest Right FD food supply.
I love making custom MRE's using my home cooked freeze dried meals! WAY cheaper and so much better than Mountain House or Ready Wise! This recipe sounds amazing!! I use a wood moisture meter to check moisture content. Very cheap on Amazon 👍 Thanks for the video!!
Your shelf life will be drastically reduced in the bags with the clear front. They are not oxygen or moisture proof. You can if you store the bags in an oxygen and moisture proof container. You can also use a larger Mylar bag and reseal it after removing individual servings. I use 5 gallon food grade buckets with screw on lids and extra oxygen absorbers. I use these to store FD candy for months before bagging it up in the clear front bags. Love your videos!
You didn’t weigh each tray. You can’t say that all of your food is 💯 bone dry if you don’t weigh all of your trays. And your window bags are only good for short term. ( selling or gifting) not long term storage. 🙋🏻♀️-9 yrs freeze drying.
Why is the "Food Chopper" on its last legs? It sounds just like mine. I saw a suggestion on YT recommending that you sharpen the blades if you've had it a while. I am going to sharpen mine. Maybe that will help yours. I'll have to try your recipe.
I don't think you can call this homemade freeze dried MRE "cheap" when the prerequisite is a $2,700 freeze dryer appliance haha!!! However its cool to see the process from start to finish and I am sure it tastes good. It would interesting to see how much you are saving per serving of freeze dried food on average. I would be interested on what the ROI is on a machine like that. I could see the freeze drier being super useful for a home garden to preserve summer fruits and veggies.
In the medical world of getting sick from the kiddos, we call it "kiddy crud." We need more MRE recipes like your pulled pork mac and cheese. Also, any others you may have.
Love you're content. I so want to get a freeze dryer. Sub'd. Love you'r hair. How does it compear to the fresh made mill vrs the MRE. I love glamping/fishing. 19:23 I have had a pulled pork mac and chess grill chees sandwich before a concert one time and it was insanely delicious.

I think the rest of the US has caught up with Alaska prices for food. 21 dollars total? Just the chicken down here in Texas would cost that.

Clear front bags are not good for freeze dried food. The plastic does not keep out the oxygen.
