You might have to repeat a few times to see results but it definitely works. I don't use anything else in my drains because my house has PVC piping as well.
E I've owned my home for 9 years, this has been my only drain cleaning method and never had a problem. I'm wondering if there were any other chemicals trapped in her drain to cause that reaction. This is the more gentle way of clearing a drain, all the rest are very corrosive chemicals.
NativeNYerChicHK ah I didn't think of other chemicals! That definitely could've been the issue since the person she told that to had also been doing this for years without any problems.
E I always get nervous with like my hair dye chemicals after cleaning my tools in the sink or cleaning paint brushes or anything like that, because I know if there a clog forming or gunk stuck in the drain already that stuff will stick to it and lie in the drain for a long while. Call me paranoid but I run the hottest water I can with dawn dish detergent for a few minutes after I clean anything questionable. Especially because of the PVC piping makes me nervous. I grew up in apartment with steel pipes and always used Drano so when we bought the house I had no idea how to deal with PVC. I'm always afraid chemicals like that are going to melt a hole in them eventually. Rationally I know the PVC pipes are made to withstand harsh stuff, but what if?!? Hahaha
I love that you are taking your time with moving. The second I got the keys for my apartment, I called into work and commenced the move immediately. Within four days, I was completely unpacked and moved and had the place decorated. It sucked because I didn't take my time and enjoy the process. Plus, it was the middle of summer and I gave myself extreme heat exhaustion. My first night, I was throwing up and felt like crap. I admire your patience and chill attitude about all of this. You're stellar.
You definitely still need to water air plants. They need soaking every week or two, and also need to be taken out for sunlight. They need good air circulation, too. A lot of people don't know that so they let them perish in glass containers in bathrooms. With a little care, however, they can thrive in that moist environment.
shower plant recommendation: orchids & air plants. They both require minimal light and the steam from the shower is enough to keep them alive. You may want to water/soak them every week or couple weeks just to make sure, but they'll thrive in a bathroom environment. I have orchids in my bathroom and they look great and are constantly blooming!
That's exactly what I did when I lived in FL for 6 months. Everything I cosmetically changed went into a cheap plastic airtight tote and thrown in the top of one of my closets ready to change back when I left. I changed my shower head, cabinet pulls/knobs, and light fixtures. Less because it was terrible and more cause I couldn't visually/functionally stand any of it. I wanted a handheld shower head and fun stuff throughout. I love having aloe plants in the bathroom. When I lived in FL I had a small palm plant but I wouldn't recommend it near us. (I live in Baltimore lol) And if you put your microwave on top of your hood you could use small clear command hooks to thread the cord in the shape you traced with your finger tightly against the hood and cabinet and straight down. I did that for string lights in my room to frame my Doctor Who Van Gough print. Hope all is well, so happy for you 🙂
I agree with you about the tapestry. I think the one you currently have should move, and whatever you put over your bed needs to cover more of the wall.
I'm so happy that your apartment is coming together. You're doing a crazy good job at installing things and fixing things and I know that I'd be having all kinds of anxiety attacks but seeing you overcome all of these things is really inspiring...also don't forget to water your plants on Friday 🌱
Maybe you could hang those metal cubes on the wall for added storage or plants and art? Also, so happy for you! You're really making this space a home and you look so much happier! 😸
this series of vlogs are my absolute fav! its so nice to be able to see how ur apartment comes together, i think u should move the tapestry to the other wall 🤔 (also thats a really cool rug) 😽🍀
girl, yeah! So excited with these updates. I definitely vote moving the smoke tapestry to the side wall instead of directly above your bed! (swooning over the blush rug you found for your living room! 👊🏻)
when I was a renter I switched the shower head and did exactly what you plan to do, I saved the old gross one and reinstalled it when I left (I wanted to take my nice larger one with me to the house I bought anyway). worst case scenario you can reinstall a new cheapy apartment grade one when you move out if the old one is too damaged. I don't see why a landlord would be mad about that honestly.
I know it would be a nuisance, however, you can return the shelf for another, since it is broken. but you seem very self sufficient and creative enough to make it work. lol. that phrase made me think of project runway... "make it work"
Instead of drano , you could try a drain snake or sometimes it's called a pipe snake. It'll likely be gross but it's a manual alternative to the liquid. And if you want a second opinion, I agree with you on the bedroom tapestry placement. The other wall would look great 😃 aaaand I relate so hard to the dirty booby lights it happens at my place all the time. Ladybugs man.
TheAbbieScreams I was going to also suggest a drain snake! My boyfriend and I shed our hair like crazy in the shower and drain snakes are my lifesaver like every week lmao. It never gets any less gross doing the damn thing though.
TheAbbieScreams I use a drain snake and yes they can be gross but I like it better than using something like draino and sometimes it's oddly satisfying to use
Aspynn Shea Me and my bf have the same issue! I don't even think the hairs gross, it's the goop from the product and whatever else haha Glad I'm not alone!
Holl Dagg- I agree! And I find it funny how often gross stuff like that is satisfying. But, in the end it's cleaning so it can't be TOO weird can it? ;)
Rayvenne R yes!! We use one for the tub and one for the sinks. It's crazy what comes up through the sinks. It's like a black mess from toothpaste settling in the pipes
For your slow drains use "green gobbler" it's safe for pvc pipes, "eco friendly", and it works really well. I got it at Home Depot, but I'm pretty sure you can order it on amazon!
Love these vlogs! I had to move in a hurry, and after a few months of living in a thrown together space, I am finally getting my apartment organized as well. There is something so satisfying about building an environment that feels like you. I have an oven, microwave, and tiny crock pot in my kitchen, no room for anything else. I have always been able to make whatever I want, just sometimes I have to be a little creative.
I usually do Watering Wednesdays so it's easier to remember and I have notifications on my phone calendar... And I still manage to skip watering my plants sometimes. 😅 Green thumbs are hard.
Spider plants work GREAT with humidity and changing temperatures of bathrooms! I keep mine sitting in water 24/7 but they can honestly go with watering every other day. They grow like crazy and are my go-to plant.
you need cool toned LED bulbs! they "burn" brighter but use less wattage so less energy overall. also, a more blue colored bulb will help make your rooms feel less yellow. honestly. just changing to the right bulbs can drastically change the look of a room for the better.
I'd put the bed across the window at the front part of the room. Maybe that'll create more space. Then out that table against the corner of the room where the bed was
be careful if you take out the plug in the tub - my tub wouldn't drain too so I tried to unscrew the plug but there was sooooo much gunk and build up that it actually unscrewed the entire drain from the pipes underneath somehow and a plumber had to come and re-pipe the drain. so just be careful.
I'm a home owner and I wouldn't mind you making upgrades that better the space. You can always switch it back if they hate it. Before I bought my house though we changed our apartment shower heads and then just put the old ones back before we moved out. :)
You're doing such a great job! Two things: 1) Your flag should move to the other wall because not only will it look better, but it also looks like you have a fire alarm on the wall that you covered and I would bet money that it's in your lease not to obstruct it. 2) You're probably going to have to plunge your tub drain. It's going to make a giant mess and be really gross so if you can get your landlord to get a maintenance person to do it that would be best, but if not you'll have to figure out how the stopper comes out plunge it. Just be ready for a bunch of black gunk to come out. If that doesn't work you'll have to snake it and for that you should definitely annoy the piss out of your landlord until he hires someone to do it. Keep on keepin' on though, lady. You're killin' it!
I'm so stoked to see you getting everything worked out. It's inspired me and on Saturday I looked at an apartment that I'll be moving into in May; my firm home out of my family home. I'm super super excited!!!
I use these little plastic drain snakes to unclog my drains. I think they're called "zip-it." They're pretty cheep on amazon, and you don't have to worry about dealing with dangerous chemicals like draino.
Haha I have absolutely no room for a microwave. I thought about placing one above this small heating unit I have in my apartment, but eventually became more comfortable with just using the oven for my quick meals. It's sort of encouraged me to take the time to prepare more meals from scratch. I love how the apartment is turning out
You literally cannot drill a hole into the range 😂. I'm sure your landlord would freak the heck out. I love the rug though!!!! That color is so adorable! I agree that the tapestry should be on the other wall. I think whatever goes above your bed should be like the shape of a headboard...sorta. Love the plants! They're giving me life
For the shelf in the bathroom, I would try filling off the sharp edges (I think you can even use an old nail file for that) and I would tie the loose thing together either with strong string or some kind of metal cord.
Love these vlogs so much! I wake up everyday and check my phone for a notification lol. Your apartment looks so nice! Makes me want to get my own place soon! Love ya girly💜
You're gonna be so happy in that apartment once you get fully adjusted. I'm happy for you! Also, you don't really need a microwave. I have one but I honestly use it maybe once a month. You can use the oven to re-heat food. Microwaving food isn't really that good for you either. But whatever you decide, I hope it works out.
Hey Qcknd first of all your ttt videos are always nice to watch for mw. Also thank you for sharing your moving process. Me and my boyfriend are moving out of a bad situation too. You really inspired me not to give up when I was searching for apartments. Also your vlogs get me really pumped to move out and be ok if you don't have you perfect, with all the furniture filled home. Thank you for making this videos and helping me though a rough week 😊
Hell yeah. Love the positivity and the do-it yourself attitude! Also, I wouldn't drill any holes in your stove vent. That is something that can't be covered up, ya know?
In case Ethan ever seems like unadjusted down the road, or like he's trying to escape every time you come home, try washing his paws and then have him chill in the house with you and he should chill out. 😸
yay! you're doing so well. it looks great! I would think that the fridge is supposed to go where you've put the wire shelving though. so it's more contained in your kitchen area. That's probably why there is an outlet there
Solution for the bathtub drainage issue since you probs cant use drain-o. Pour some baking soda down the drain and then pour vinegar after, let it sit for an hour and then pour a bunch of boiling water down the drain. This usually helps clear it up! Plus it's super cheap. If that doesn't work then you may need to snake the drain--which can be super disgusting especially if you know it's not your hair that you're pulling up--but that also helps a ton.
Can't wait to see the room rug!!! My hub and I do not own a microwave and we do just fine with heating things up with a stove. We do use a toaster oven though. But you can get away with your oven , it will just take longer. I really like your apartment 😊👍🏼
For the drain, you can use vinegar. Or boiling water with dish soap in it. You can also unscrew it and use a snake (go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot and ask for a plumbing snake).
I swear when I got divorced after 16 yrs and moved into my first apartment, I felt so insanely super woman everytime I put something together or fixed something on my own. Like fuck no I don't need someone else to build hang fix shit for me! Great job, Girl.. you are rocking it!
These blogs are so good. Inspiring too. I actually did some closet organizing, separated winter/summer clothes, and set aside another bag to donate. Did a tiny bit of my living room. It's so frustrating taking baby steps. I want to actually use my living room. Oh about carrying your desk there, I moved literally around the corner from my old place. I rolled my microwave cart down the street to here. lol wheeeeee haha
As long as you paint the walls a neutral colour you will be fine, creams, off whites, pale greys are all fine. Check your written contract on whether all fittings must be the same when you move out (shower head etc)
it might be best to put the rug under the bed cos with the felt pads on hardwood the bed may slide around. I had that problem at one of the places I stayed
I've been watching your videos for a while now, and just wanted to say thank you for sharing your moving experience & other jazz with us♥ I've been looking for places to rent for the past few months or so, so that's been uber stressful (I'm moving to help my sister out)... But with your vlogs, I always end up feeling less stressed and a lot more positive about the move; like it's a lot more doable than I thought... Also, my bf of 5 yrs and I broke up on Friday (5/24)... mutual breakup so it ended in good terms (we both realized we were looking for a different type of person to be truly happy with...we're kind of complete opposites, but really care about eachother a lot), but you know... still sucks. SUPER happy to see this & see you grow into a happier Qcknd♥♥ All good juju to you! :D
It's looking absolutely fantastic. I know moving can be so darn stressful. You have survived it well. Good on you Amanda wish you the best in the lovely new home you've created. P.S. I wish I could have helped you carry that table up the stairs!
"I don't know what I look like"
"ummm..that'll do"
Same man. Same.
Unscrew the plug, put a few spoonfuls of baking soda into the drain and then pour white vinegar down the drain. Best natural drain cleaner ever!!
You might have to repeat a few times to see results but it definitely works. I don't use anything else in my drains because my house has PVC piping as well.
NativeNYerChicHK I heard on another person's channel that doing that made her pipes explode..
E I've owned my home for 9 years, this has been my only drain cleaning method and never had a problem. I'm wondering if there were any other chemicals trapped in her drain to cause that reaction. This is the more gentle way of clearing a drain, all the rest are very corrosive chemicals.

Air plants for the bathroom! The steam from the shower will "water" them so you don't have to! They don't even need dirt.
Francesca Pessarelli I was just about to say the same thing! :)
Spider plants (lol it doesn't look like a spider or attract them or anything, idk why it's called that) are also super good in bathroom environments!
I was going to suggest the same thing :)
You definitely still need to water air plants. They need soaking every week or two, and also need to be taken out for sunlight. They need good air circulation, too.
A lot of people don't know that so they let them perish in glass containers in bathrooms. With a little care, however, they can thrive in that moist environment.
Charlotte Roberts Thanks for the info! :)

You've seemed so much happier as these vlogs have progressed and I'm so here for that. 🖤
I was just thinking the same thing!!!!
I'm so excited, you do not understand!! 😍🖤
I love how comments are always (mostly?) positive on your videos. That seems rare here on RUclips.

LaDeParDee command hooks are life! I use them for just about everything in my flat including mesh curtains in my living room 😊 so many handy hacks
I agree with you about the tapestry. I think the one you currently have should move, and whatever you put over your bed needs to cover more of the wall.
i literally wake up every day waiting for these vlogs
Me too! I actually check my RUclips just in case the notification doesn't go through. lol

So proud of you for that shower head!!! Killin it!!!
theres something about these vlogs that leaves me painfully excited and waiting for the next one.
*looks in the mirror for .2 seconds* "..... that'll do."
hahahahaha!!! that is so me.
The color of your rug matches your mugs and plates!
YOOOOOOO ITS LOOKING SO GOOD

I recommend a thick rug. Maybe a wool type, they have vegan type wool also. It's thick and acts as a great sound barrier.
Or a canvas. Anything heavily
Pause! Coffee run. I'll be back to watch.
You can bend the sharp piece with needle nose and zip tie it together and just snip the end of the zip tie, for the bathroom shelf. Love your updates!
Niomi Marie @qcknd I agree zip ties are life savers!
I know it would be a nuisance, however, you can return the shelf for another, since it is broken. but you seem very self sufficient and creative enough to make it work. lol. that phrase made me think of project runway... "make it work"
nearly broke my nail by clicking so fast on this video loll ! love you gurl

You can get plughole strainers to catch all the hair before it gets into the drain so you don't need to fish stuff out. ick ick ick
You're creating a home.
So deep
hudsonsailor54 this sounds so cute omg
I am not a subscriber but these vlogs keep showing up in my recommendations and I like watching them:)
Pallavi Sanyal you should sub... she is great. IMO
You certainly won't regret subscribing to her. Amanda is such a lovely lady
You can use a plunger on the tub, just a separate one from the toilet, like a little dollarstore one
I got it at Home Depot, but I'm pretty sure you can order it on amazon!
so proud of you for assembling all those things in your new home!!! it's coming together really well!! you seem so happy too!!

I love that you build everything by yourself and seeing everything come together bit by bit
Love the "spark joy" comment :)
I'm a home owner and I wouldn't mind you making upgrades that better the space. You can always switch it back if they hate it. Before I bought my house though we changed our apartment shower heads and then just put the old ones back before we moved out. :)
I get too much joy from watching your vlogs :). So rad and quirky.
I agree with where you should move the tapestry! Also light blue fairy lights would be really lovely behind the bed!
You're doing such a great job!
Two things:
1) Your flag should move to the other wall because not only will it look better, but it also looks like you have a fire alarm on the wall that you covered and I would bet money that it's in your lease not to obstruct it.
You're killin' it!
i love these long vlogs, i listen to them while i get ready in the morning and its so comforting and nice
I'm weirdly happy that you flipped the bed slats! I don't know if it was because you saw my comment but I'm so glad I helped if it was :D
orchids work really well with shower humidity and sunlight, and the bloom lasts longer in the shower too!
I love watching you make this space your own. It looks so cool! Proud of u
I'm so stoked to see you getting everything worked out. It's inspired me and on Saturday I looked at an apartment that I'll be moving into in May; my firm home out of my family home. I'm super super excited!!!
I've never been so early in my life
not even to school
I love how your apartment is coming together!! So proud of you
Everything's coming together SO well!! :D yayyy!
I use these little plastic drain snakes to unclog my drains. I think they're called "zip-it." They're pretty cheep on amazon, and you don't have to worry about dealing with dangerous chemicals like draino.
you're doing so well and I'm so proud of you
I love that rug so much!! I've been getting so excited every time you post one of these vlogs. Glad you're doing well 💚
It's so nice to see how happy you are in this vlog! You're doing an amazing job putting all of this together! Love from Germany💗✨🌈
Haha I have absolutely no room for a microwave. your style is so relaxing and nice looking. i love how it's all coming together. i can't wait to see how ethan likes the apartment.
I've been looking forward to these moving vlogs so much. I love all your vlogs!
They're giving me life
city planter is literally my favorite spot to wander
I'm moving into my first apartment today and your videos have been so helpful during the process
It's all starting to look so good! Loving it!
I'm so happy that you're happy. You make me want plants!!!
You can pour baking soda in the drain and then pour vinegar and it will unplug the drain naturally without corroding the pipes !!
This inspires me so much and at the same time it makes me kind of calm? Thank you for the vlogs
You're gonna be so happy in that apartment once you get fully adjusted. I'm happy for you!
Also, you don't really need a microwave. I have one but I honestly use it maybe once a month. You can use the oven to re-heat food. Microwaving food isn't really that good for you either. But whatever you decide, I hope it works out.

i enjoy these way too much haha
please keep up the good work this series is super helpful
yay! you're doing so well. it looks great! I would think that the fridge is supposed to go where you've put the wire shelving though. so it's more contained in your kitchen area. That's probably why there is an outlet there
It's so exciting to see your apartment come along really well! To make the main room brighter you could try uplighting maybe
Solution for the bathtub drainage issue since you probs cant use drain-o. It's all coming together!! It's looking great! You've seriously inspired me to change my shower head :)
I just love these vlogs so much
I would switch the bed with the desk, feng shui says to not have your bed share a wall with a bathroom. Your new apartment is turning out great!
I'm living for these long vlogs
Your place is really coming together nicely!!
Lol, I totally have the same "lady tools"!!
Thanks for sharing- Love your channel!
Philodendrons are super hearty and are great for bathrooms!
Not through the video yet, but I hope you decide to move the storage unit up to be level with the medicine cabinet. It's giving me an eye twitch lol.
"I don't know what I look like" *looks in the mirror* "That'll do" had me DYING
These blogs are so good. Inspiring too. I actually did some closet organizing, separated winter/summer clothes, and set aside another bag to donate. Did a tiny bit of my living room. It's so frustrating taking baby steps. I want to actually use my living room.
Oh about carrying your desk there, I moved literally around the corner from my old place. I rolled my microwave cart down the street to here. lol wheeeeee haha
(I've had a hard time tackling it head-on due to major anxiety, and. some germaphobia, where there are no germs.)
Looking so amazing! Proud of you ya independent womannnnnnnnn!!💃🏻👩🏼🔧
hey! if you end up needing more felt pads for your furniture dollar tree has packs of them in different sizes :)
After you set up the shower, the next day where you're wearing a hat and flannel you look like a hardcore kid and it's so great
I've been watching your videos for a while now, and just wanted to say thank you for sharing your moving experience & other jazz with us♥
I've been looking for places to rent for the past few months or so, so that's been uber stressful (I'm moving to help my sister out)...
