Man. That means you got to see Schumacher's masterclasses in 99 and 2001 in person. 🥵 This video didn't go into it, but 99 was one of Schumacher's greatest performances. All of this on his first race back after breaking his leg at Silverstone. And 2001...well that was just bloody fun.

I just went to the 4 hours asian le mans today which is at sepang. The track is a beauty and always offer exciting racing. Yes its very disappointing to see f1 arent racing here anymore (considering the fact that hosting f1 is the main reason the track is built at the first place) and instead we get three races a year at us (which is too many) that just cause more and more dissatisfaction among fans
I wish more foreign viewers would flock to see races in Sepang with the weakening Ringgit. Only you guys could keep races here alive because we can't afford the ticket anymore...
It's the same reason Buriram is unlikely to host F1 even tho Albon is on the grid. Also Singapore GP's attraction is not even the race itself, but the concert. I've known people around the region who bought tickets just to watch the concert, and don't even watch the race.
Honestly tho, they also tried to bring their good share of musical arts in Sepang. Back in 2015, they tried to attract more audiences by inviting famous K-pop acts. They brought the most famous K-pop girl group at the time, Girls Generation to the Malaysian GP. They also had Shinee. If I just had money and had a job at the time I would really go there. It’s not the same scale as Singapore GP tho, they always get to invite a bigger number of acts of different genres. It’s what sets Singapore GP apart from Malaysia
Hi, I a Malaysian & attended the first race in 1999. Everybody was expecting a wet race, thus many brought raincoats. However, it was hot & blazing day and I regretted not bringing an umbrella, which would fit a rainy or sunny day. I remembered Michael Schumacher, with Mika behind him, driving so slow at every corners and sped up at straights, just to build up space between Irvine (whom is leading) and both of them. And I could clearly see Mika raising his fist, perhaps angry at Michael's antics. And the engine's sound and vibration was much better in 1999 compared to 2013 (my final attendance at Sepang). Without an earplug, or anything to plug the ear, perhaps one could be a deaf for a week.
As not just a spectator but frequent track day enthusiast at Sepang, I can say that it remains in good condition, ready at any time to host races. Please come back. 🙏
One of the best Tilke tracks for sure. Usually an interesting race with changeable weather and the first and second corners usually causing incidents on the first lap.
Sepang got abandoned because of the price of the ticket, most local that are interested can't really afford it, the tourist are interested can't go to there or didn't bother to go because of lack of transportation
Really miss F1 weekends at Sepang. It's a great spectators' track. Plenty of fond memories sitting at different spots around the circuit. Particularly sitting on the hill next to the F Grandstand during the rain soaked 2001(?) GP...we were drenched, but the race was unforgettable. Fingers crossed we see F1 return here. A night race would be epic!
no way Marina Bay is a better circuit. Sepang is a PROPER circuit. BUT circuit alone is NOT the criteria for attendance, the ENTIRE experience is FAR better in Singapore than in Malaysia. THAT is the reason for the lack of foreign attendance.
@@Ali_art Nah, Malaysia still have more lands. Waste of time building in a packed city like .KL Also the Sepang circuit is not just for F1, it's for almost everything involving autosports in Malaysia.

Pisses me off that we have to race on dead tracks like Miami but great ones like Sepang are not even in talks to return. Street tracks are killing racing.
Better use the money to build toy train tracks and watch the wagons follow each other, they are the same thing. Back in the the V8 and V10 engines era, people would pay money just to listen to the sound of engine. Now that too is gone.
I wish I had gone there when the race was still running, but I was just a kid (or a broke student at the end). I'm in Singapore and the night race is fun but having a proper purpose-built circuit next door to us was awesome.
I thought I saw this video before, but I didn't. You did nearly identical video about Malaysia 3 years ago! You must really miss it :( I think it'd be great to go back. Cheers 🥂
the track near my house, currently the track is always in good condition and well maintained even though it is 25 years old.. hope to have an F1 race here one day.. gives a very nostalgic moment to F1 fans
Technically, Sepang Circuit wasn't completely abandoned. It did opened to the public similarly as Nürburgring did but with strict quality control. I lived in a town that are few minutes away from the circuit.
I watched some of the Asian Le Man Series racing there this weekend and was hoping that one day we will see F1 return to Sepang, such an awesome track for Grand Prix cars.
Before Shanghai, Sepang was THE race of the season with unexpected weather. A weekend race could be Hot, Slightly Raining or Heavy Rain in a matter of hours. And this was even included in many F1 game that features Sepang. Loved it!
Hello Malaysian here, I still remember the first and only time I went to Sepang for an F1 race. I even got to check out the garage pit and saw engineers working on the cars up close, it was such an exciting experience! The atmosphere was nice, but the crowd was massive. I managed to get a half price ticket thanks to a student initiative by the government, which I’m really grateful for.
I think with the rising popularity of F1 now, if Sepang returns to the calendar, it would bring in more spectators than before. Here’s hoping that it happens soon, because it is realistically my only chance of attending an F1 race 🥲
Making it a night race could very well be the solution, it would change the atmosphere completely. If they made the tickets a bit cheaper to get more asses on seats, it would be a proper festival.
A Malaysian here. Personally thinking, since the F1 fanbase is slowly growing (thanks to DTS), I think more people would attend if the ticket prices are lower than what it were before. Since it's closer to Malaysians and if the tickets are cheaper, I think more people would come and attend the F1 races held there.
I attended all 19 F1 races and all Moto GP races in Sepang and even attended the grand opening in 1999. The different between F1 and Moto GP is the event period. Moto GP starts from Moto 3 then Moto 2 and then Moto GP. I came early morning and enjoy the races from morning until evening which is I think worth of ticket price. But for F1 we have to wait until 2pm to 3pm the race will start. Waiting there in very hot and humid condition from early morning but ok as I'm an F1 fanatic
As an Indonesian. When I was a kid I was SO JEALOUS by how Malaysia have this cool F1 track and being watched by the world and aired on TV while our country, which is just across the sea, basically neighbor, even until now, never had these kinds of track. Sure we now have MotoGP track but that's quite new in 2022 while Malaysia had Sepang since 1999. I mean culturally Indonesia and Malaysia are one of the same, and yet in terms of getting the attention of the world by having International F1 Track, Malaysia was always one step ahead. Words can't express how jealous I was as a kid only able to watch F1 from TV airing race from the neighbor country
Here’s why it’s possible. A night race on a purpose built circuit. Add in the fact that rain is possible, you want drama for to attract new fans and want it naturally to appeal to the hardcore? There you go.
A lot of people commented on how expensive it was, but as an Aussie, I found it to be one of the cheapest options in my area when I went in 2014. The entire package (entry, flights, accommodation, etc.) costs less than half the price of going to either Singapore or Melbourne. Plus, where else could a taxi drop you off right at the back of the grandstand!!
Tracks like Sepang, Hockenheim shod be back in the calendar. Get rid off Miami and Vegas. We dont want both the tracks as its jus the money and not racing. Your videos are making an impact and i hope it draws the attention of FOM, to consider. You might actually look like a representative for us loyal f1 fans. Thanks
Vegas was decent, and if it works in the long run we could see F1 host more events by itself and then go to Africa (f1 wants to go to Africa at some point, and if they hosted the event themselfs, it would be alot easier).
Unfortunately as the saying goes: money talks and bullshit walks. The cost to run an F1 race is costing millions and the Malaysian government knows this. Plus with Malaysia being two-wheeled crazy that's not going to happen in the long run
@@Lappali but firstly liberty media wants tracks in New York and other places in the US. Talks have been going on abt Africa but I feel unfortunately liberty media might close the case as they did once. We wanna se how Vietnam gp would've been. But again the liberty media ignored it. It's cruel
Malaysia should do a night race in KL just like in Singapore. The road in KL is wide and many curvy turns unlike Singapore. Travelling to Sepang is far and the weather is extremely hot. An F1 race in KL is a dream for me
Yup, your point is truly correct. I have read the report, that the sepang management told, they spent nearly 30m in order to prepare the race. But in return for ticketing and sponsorship, they only manage to earn back around 20m. So, that is not a good return. Meanwhile for motogp, they just need around 15m to 20m to prepare for the race. But they earn around 35m to 45m in one race. So, that is why motogp is still racing in sepang, and f1 is no longer there.

As a Malaysian, I became a fan in 2019 and i just found out that there were f1 races here before 2017. I hope F1 can return to my home country and i could maybe watch it at the stands for the experiecence.
I hope it returns as a night race. Its too hot during the daytime.
But it's always the best during the daytime! It allows photographers to take more and more high quality photos!
@@madkhaliqfarhan Agreed. The best thing from Sepang circuit is the unpredictable weather which makes the circuit challenging and fun. This can only happen during daytime instead of nighttime.
@@splendid96 Besides, the pictures of racecars under the sun will always remind me of my childhood!
Holding it at night would be good as it’s part of ASEAN and as an ASEAN resident things tend to get hot in here
I always liked this gp. Also the weather is unpredicatble what adds a lot of extra suprise elements to a race. Also the track flows really good and its a very nice track
Sepang Night Race would be insane, totally make a trip from Melbourne to see that, maybe get to see two GP's in one year for the first time 😅
when i was 7 years old, watching fernando alonso winning the race in sepang, now im 25 years old, getting opportunity racing in sepang!! love this track 🥳🥳
@@hamakaze9812nope. local purchasing power not that bad la bro.
It's such a shame that F1 don't race in Sepang anymore, since MotoGP still races there and the races produced by the track are phenomenal.
It's the same reason Buriram is unlikely to host F1 even tho Albon is on the grid. Also Singapore GP's attraction is not even the race itself, but the concert. I've known people around the region who bought tickets just to watch the concert, and don't even watch the race.
It's always the people who hate F1 that can easily get F1 tickets for free and ruin the experience for us! 😤
I love this circuit. Never a dull race. Miss it loads. Great video thank you 👍
as an indonesian, in 2016, I flew to Malaysia, to watch the F1 Race in Sepang for the first time
Sepang and Istanbul are the 2 tracks I want back in F1 more than any others
I loved Nürburgring GP also (regular track, not Nordschleiffe obviously). But Malaysian GP was the best!!
I too remember michael! definitely incredible !
As a Malaysian, I regretted didn't attending V10 Formula 1 era as a kid...
Such a shame, my Mum and I went to watch a race when I was 5. Now when we drive past the stadium.....it looks abandoned 😔.
i absolutely agree. the track looks incredible at night.
As a fan of your channel. Thank you for covering this. Hoping Malaysian GP to be back ❤
Sepang got abandoned because of the price of the ticket, most local that are interested can't really afford it, the tourist are interested can't go to there or didn't bother to go because of lack of transportation
As a Singaporean who enjoys watching F1 race on proper circuits, I'd trade off Marina Bay for Sepang any day.
if u dont mind me asking, why not marina bay?
no way Marina Bay is a better circuit.
Sepang is a PROPER circuit.
BUT
circuit alone is NOT the criteria for attendance, the ENTIRE experience is FAR better in Singapore than in Malaysia.
THAT is the reason for the lack of foreign attendance.
@@naga2015kk i said it in other comments. Malaysian should build another track near Kuala Lumpur city center
@@Ali_art Nah,
Malaysia still have more lands. Waste of time building in a packed city like .KL
Also the Sepang circuit is not just for F1, it's for almost everything involving autosports in Malaysia.
You might as well make plans to migrate as well LOL!
thanks for ur compliment on our country's circuit..
I really miss this race. The Malaysian Grand Prix was always great fun and and absolute highlight on the calendar.
Im a malaysian when i was 3 it was 2017 the last malaysian grand prix now my uncle works for formula 1 team petronas and we got 4 free tickets i begged to go bc at the time i was already a fan but i never got to go.
Sepang was amazing. When it was in the rain season it was carnage (in a good way)
I wish I had gone there when the race was still running, but I was just a kid (or a broke student at the end). I'm in Singapore and the night race is fun but having a proper purpose-built circuit next door to us was awesome.
One of the best tracks for racing action as well as driving it on the F1 games.
A night race in Sepang would be incredible
I watched some of the Asian Le Man Series racing there this weekend and was hoping that one day we will see F1 return to Sepang, such an awesome track for Grand Prix cars.
Is sad that great circuits are being ignored in favour of dull street circuits !
Before Shanghai, Sepang was THE race of the season with unexpected weather. A weekend race could be Hot, Slightly Raining or Heavy Rain in a matter of hours. And this was even included in many F1 game that features Sepang. Loved it!
Learned something today I don’t even know the Sepang circuit has been out of the F1 calendar since 2017.
As Malaysian, yes i do miss F1 race in Sepang. It take lots of efforts to gain Malaysian interest on motorsport like F1.

Thank you for the great views of sepang f1 circuit! We still wish f1 would come back and at affordable ticket price especially at the grandstands.
I'm a Malaysian, and I love F1, I attended the last 2 races there! Amazing track hope it returns soon!
Since it's closer to Malaysians and if the tickets are cheaper, I think more people would come and attend the F1 races held there.
yes, if it had gone for the rupees, it would have been worth a lot!
Yes! Make it a night race! i literally have the same idea when i first saw the circuit and before you even mentionioning it.
I’ve attended this GP in 2007. It’s a beautiful circuit.
But you didn’t mention the heat for the drivers and for the engines….
Please let this circuit return on the calander once again. No doubt it's a must be!!!
Greetz from The Netherlands.
Sepang us my favourite circuit. Its an absolute art
Funny enough, my goal in life is to be able to race my friend in this circuit using our cars
Go ahead. I'd love to race against you too! As a Malaysian myself, you better let me win!
Should still be an F1 mainstay. Glad MotoGp still puts on a hell of a show there every year 👍
As an Indonesian.
I'm so lucky to had chances to watch both f1 and motogp..sepang is amazing
To be honest, on top of the motorcycle culture, the sound of the V6 engine in 2014 kills the passion for some casual fans to watch the race.
You are aussie , of course with AUD currency is cheap compare to Malaysia ringgit .
@@hazziqadam7547 Singapore was more than double the price.

It's cruel
@@Limegreenedragon atleast hockenheim can work I'm sure about that. I won't be surprised if the Chinese gp would be canceled again....
@@vi14753 the only country that I can realistic see holding an F1 race is Egypt
Sepang should open for car manufacturers to test their car and get certified lap time like nurburging
As an American, I’d 100% rather this track be back on the calendar than any of the Miami or Las Vegas abominations
Absolute banger of a track, this and Turkey were the best of the Tilke tracks.
I would reallly want this track to come back to f1 but seeing how it is, i guess we wont have my home country race for now-
This is easily Tilke's best circuit and hopefully F1 comes back to it soon.
Ah I miss Sepang F1. It's the only GP that I don't have to pay so much for flight and hotel. Good track, easy access. Please bring it back.
I'd give up the Singapore GP in a heartbeat if it means Sepang will return
Petronas already took over the circuit. Lets pray for the best if they can bring back F1 to Sepang.
This is probably one of my favourite motogp tracks would love to see it in f1
i remember how excited i was when finally i got a chance to attend the f1 race also the last gp in Malaysia. Always grateful that for once in my life i attended an f1 race!
Ps;I attended this last gp 2017 with my friend and now she is my wife . the day i realised i fell in love with this woman. The day i realised shes the one. The memories that ill never forget. Also on our return to our car we got summon from police 🤣
