In this fight Crawford Grimsley had a record of 20(18)-1 [20 victories with 18 KOs with just 1 loss, being that 1 loss a 10 round point decision against George Foreman), and Crawford went on to lose against Jimmy Thunder in just 1 second by the first and only punch of the fight. Thunder himself went on to get KOed in the 2nd round by undefeated Andre Purlette who went on to get KOed by journeyman Elieser Castillo. Boxing is such a strange mystery...
Wow! Bringing back memories now. I watched this fight and thought Jimmy was invincible only to see him get KO'd the very next fight. Early in the fight as you mentioned. Thanks for the info!
Tough, this monster punch didn’t land on his chin. But the temple. At the moment of a complete non-readiness to absorb any punch, merely one second at the start of the match. His brain didn’t even process what just happened, went bizarre…
Sleeper concussion? Maybe he had a dramatized portion of the brain that he managed to shake off in the previous fight but this throw activated it hence the shadow boxing.

Totally agree. Spent 15yrs caring for men suffering from dementia (including my own dad). Observed behaviour shown by stricken boxer here many times with my clients. Distressing and unsettling to watch. Loved to watch boxing in my younger days but now am just saddened to see the enormous risks these men (and women) take with their lives. The human skull and brain aren't designed for this kind of punishment.
Rest in peace, James 'Thunder' Peau. He was one of the nicest guys in boxing, and he always had time for fans. He regularly showed up to watch and support amateur boxing events in Auckland right up until his passing.
@granto6738 he was indeed a good boxer. As an amateur, he won multiple NZ heavyweight titles, gold at the commonwealth games, and silver at the world champs. As a professional, he won multiple regional titles and the IBO, and I believe WBU world heavyweight titles. He fell a little short of challenging for a major world title but was exciting to watch winning most of his bouts via KO as you could imagine.
That's a powerful first punch, landed perfectly. I hope the defeated fighter recovered OK & should not be ashamed as not many men could come back from a punch like that.
That is the thing about boxing that i love. Even a superior fighter that could win 9 of 10 fights against a fighter that is supposed to be a walk over can make one single mistake that he can't get up off the canvas from. A puncher always has a chance.
RIP Jimmy! met him countless times and my coach trained with him when he was younger, came to our gym to help us train and show us things.
