- Seen here is one of the newer units operating on a relatively "clean" curbside recycling route. It's been some time since I've posted one of these, especially with a Scorpion ASL powered by a FMP (front mount pump). You'll notice the unit operates quietly. Enjoy the video!

Great hopper video! Interesting to see the things people try to recycle. Plastic bags, styrofoam, and greasy pizza boxes seem to be the most common contaminants. No wonder China banned recyclables from entering the country. Sure wish more people cared to recycle properly.
Our local recycling takes greasy pizza boxes and doesn't even seem to care. What they might care about is leftover pizza left in them, that attracts flies, maggots, and ants.

Trust me, this is not at all contaminated, compared with some other examples, like in my town Zadar (Croatia). By America's standard, contamination is plastic bags, styrofoam, paper cups, textile, wood and similar, which are clean items in 90%.
My town has had a multi stream system for years, plastic was collected in yellow bags, paper in either blue bags or blue dumpsters for apartment buildings. Glass, metal and textile were collected in separate bell-shaped dumpsters, and every neighborhood had one location for these materials. The bag system was used to ensure no contamination in form of regular household trash got in the system, as previous attempts with yellow dumpsters for plastics showed they had more than 50% unsorted trash in them.
A few months ago, all apartment buildings got orange 1100L (approx. 300 gallon) dumpsters for recyclables (plastic, paper, glass, metal, textile and hard wood). Individual homes will get 240L (65 gallon) bins later this year.
Acceptable items in these new dumpsters:
plastics - bottles, yogurt tubs, plastic bags, PE foil, tetrapak (milk cartons), styrofoam, plastic tableware,... (same as in yellow bags before them)
paper - newspaper, white paper, cardboard
glass - bottles and jars
metal - tins and cans, smaller metal objects
other recyclables - clean textile, tires, hard wood
Even with all those different types of waste acceptable (of course, if only these things end up in these dumpsters), it's all super clean, and relatively easy to sort.

The problem is some people don't see a point in sorting their waste and throw regular household trash in these bins (which usually contains a good amount of liquids which can contaminate paper and soft plastics like bags). I've found stuff like boxes of leaves and other yard waste, broken chandeliers, nappies, bags with dog poop. In one case, someone filled the entire thing with wood peel. Contacted the company and they sent a separate truck the next day.
And even with this amount of trash and bio waste contamination, they still sort through the entire loads (by hand), sell plastic bottles, glass, metal, paper, and send other materials like light/worthless plastic (bags, styrofoam, tableware..), tires and wood for further processing. We got our own tire recycling industry, pretty efficient, 80% of tires sold get recycled, while light/worthless plastics get turned into RDF (refuse derived fuel).
Of course, it would all be much cleaner and easier without the contamination, but it's still doable, and proves that the whole load doesn't need to be sent to the landfill (pretty much most of our loads would go if that were the practice)
Now, let's compare that contamination with the one in the video, and the latter becomes pretty much neglectable.

There's no way this packer would keep up with the amount of trash that I pickup in a given time. way to slow. I would be sitting and waiting for it to catch up all the time.

Jim Storm I run a scorpion and I have no problem knockin down 1200 can route. GNG scorpion, not diesel.
@@resjr330 To me it seemed to run very slow. I have mine set to auto pack all day and it keeps up well.
Jim Storm mine is set up the same way. I have auto pack enabled. The way the blade sweeps back is the key. The second u start to pick up a can it starts to do its thing. I wouldn’t want to run anything else. I’ve run curbtenders and amrep in my eyes they are junk. Scorpion is the best in my opinion. Look up daeee Mfg and watch the video how you can set up the arm on the scorpion, you can do all kinds of different things. It might come up under BTE body now cuz that’s who owns scorpion bodys. The in cab controls are superior also.

None of the top loaders seem to be very efficient in dealing with large objects. Not sure why the packer blade on this one doesn't come up higher either, would be better in dealing with larger objects..

@@_Grops_ Cardboard/paper & PET plastic is globally and readily recycled. A hell of a lot of it is being contaminated here with general trash and polystyrene. Making a lot of it if not all of it ruined.

The driver needs to take a bit more time packing. There is so much big cardboard. That doesn't get packed.
People need to cut large cardboard down. Dirty paper plates won't cut it at the recycle center.

Eine Art Wertstofftonne wie es sie auch in den 80ern in Deutschland vereinzelt gab. Da durfte Plastik und Papier/Pappe in eine grüne Tonne. Hier im video ähnlich, bloß sind die Leute zu dumm Restmüll vom Recycling zu trennen
