+lunavixen015 The skip is hitting start after the text box for accepting the fights and before the screen transition. It's not TAS but it is kind of annoying to hit. I've only managed to do it on Pyramid and not consistently. You can only utilize it on the first three battles (if you use it on Final the game will lock you in the room). I estimate it would save ~40-45 seconds if someone hit all of the triggers. Couple that with some more optimization (mostly regarding final stage) and I can see a low 8 or a high 7 time being really great. Thanks for enjoying it, I do appreciate that.
Well with the new save state features you can just reload the game to beat the rock, paper, scissors mini. Don’t feel bad about it either cause games game then were crushingly difficult.
When you realise the levels are stupidly short and the bike is overpowered and makes it stupidly easy lol. Oh and only one real boss fight lol. Also seems like the final level was the only one they put in the most effort!
Nah. Every battle is linked together so when you win or lose they all change a cycle over. If I skip the circlet in world 1, the bike guy is actually different by one cycle to a fist win instead. We hard reset every run to get the same routed RNG.
Great run. :-) I don't fully understand the "randomness" of the rock, paper, scissors. I have noticed the different animals (including the human) tend to use the same gestures, but I've noticed a few times, they have not. Would following this route cause them to always use the same gestures for the rock, paper, scissors game? Unrelated, most of the difficulty I have with the game has to do with the movement physics, it feels like all ground is ice.
So from my limited testing when I was routing the game, and later I had someone check it out and made a table of possibilities (more on that down further), the randomness of the rock, paper, scissors fight is actually pretty simple. Every fight you enter and either win or lose shifts every other battle to a different winning condition. For instance, if I skip the first battle for the Circlet and fight the next battle to get the bike, Scissors is not going to be the winning solution. The enemy's starting position for that particular battle when you do a HARD reset is actually scissors, which means rock is my winning solution. However, when we get the circlet, his starting point gets shifted over by 1 to paper, meaning scissors becomes my winning solution, as the run shows. It sounds a little convoluted and that may not necessarily be the best explanation as no one has really done a full understanding of the memory addresses to figure out if they keep going in a 1 change linear cycle of Rock->Paper->Scissors. In the speedrun context, we only care about results from 6 for the most part (circlet, bike, and the 4 bosses) That brings me to my last explanation about the so called "table" someone in the community made. This game actually features boss skips by pausing within so many frames (I do not know the exact amount) after seeing the text box disappear for the bosses. You skip the janken fight and grab the rice cake at the end. The problem is, since you don't do the janken fight, your randomness counter doesn't change, and all future encounters are the same. So in essence, you need to make a matrix of possibilities given which ones you skip, which is what the table is for. Largely only important for speedrunning if you want to optimize it further as skipping the battles saves a lot of time. Also, yes the physics are floaty and not precise, which makes it that much more enjoyable to speedrun when you get used to it.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Also, I really like the route. :-) I just got into speedrunning, but not seriously yet. I've been playing Megaman 1 & 2 using the current speedrun route. It's got me thinking about the mechanics of games and all the things you do to cut off time here and there. This does seem like a great game to run, which was my reason for looking for a speedrun. I haven't played any of these Genesis games since I was a kid, so I'm going to go through some more runs of it and see if I want to speedrun it.
The official timing for non-TAS runs is that we use is the first door transition frame into the throne room. Reason for that is that it is easier to stop the timer when the transition starts than after last boss hit. Otherwise, an accurate time would need to be calculated with frames from the start of the game and then converted to real time. As one of the moderators for the SRC boards, I ain't about that life if I can help it. That also represents the last input of the game (Right directional movement) since you can technically waste time in the Boss room before advancement.
@@Lashazior You did a crazy good job at the run. If it is okay with you, I would like to suggest a game for you to try out if you haven't already yet played. Try Decap Attack, released in 1991 by Sega.
Remember everyone, as long as you're happy, there's nothing wrong with abandoning your children.
So.....Alex got trolled big time!
when i was a kid, i played alex kidd on my mega drive, duude! good times :)
gabreu_ Same! It took me so long to remember the name of it but here I am almost 10 years later :p
Same
same
The screen makes me feel old school
What? This is the crappiest ending! My cart of this game broke so I never beat it, glad to know I wasn't missing out.
good music at least :D
That's true. But then, Genesis games almost always had good music.
This is a great time, I picked up the odd trick from this run. There is a skip for the Janken games, but I'm not sure if it's TAS only or not.

Lashazior
Yeah, I'm aware using it on Ashra will lock you in the final room. The best time I've seen (TAS) is 5:29
How does one beat this game in 10 minutes. Actually how does one beat this game at all.
using f5 to make a slot and f8 to return to the slot
in the fusion emulator lol
I can't beat level 2.
New versions today through emulation now have save states and rewind features. No shame with these tougher games.
Well with the new save state features you can just reload the game to beat the rock, paper, scissors mini. Don’t feel bad about it either cause games game then were crushingly difficult.
i beat it in like 20 mins
That ending is so stupid.
that was my favorite game
This sucked compared to miracle world.
@@quickcar5255 Everyone thinks differently
Barbs Hairline well...no
I hate this damn game. I can never do anything right in it and I always die hahaha

But how?!
the ost could have used some work but the game was decent imo
Good
guau nunca lo pude pasar
Dude. IMO this game is so fucking abysmal. Throwback to Miracle World it is not. What a way piss poor way to for Alex to go out. 😝😢
Omg iscimpossible
I don't think you won in 9:28, I believe that it was 9:22. The reason is that the boss was already defeated at that time.
