When I played this later on roms though the bug seems to have been fixed.
I actually beat this game when i was 11. My uncle found a magazine in the 80s that published tips for the final level where you have to jump on the blocks in the specific order. it was the first game that i ever completed on my own.
Nice one, I could never beat this game as a kid, it was too hard lol. I think I only got past the first castle level once, thinking that it was the final level.
You're supposed to firstly obtain the letter on the first castle letter (by freeing your brother). It is missable. When you meet the King on Ch 14 he will exchange the letter for the Stone which tells you what the end sequence is. If you do not collect the letter then the King will just summon a ghost.
@@dynagamerproductions8249 oh that happened to me yesterday, the king told me he had no business with me but I was able to finish the level anyway. In the remake it forces you to get the letter before leaving the first castle.
Haha, the funny thing about Lv 10 is that I was very close to resetting the run after I missed 'that' jump and lost 7 seconds. Glad I carried the run on tbh.
I know mate, us PALers got the slower end of the stick for most game back then. Thing is, we didn't even realise till years later when emulators became available and we could play the NTSC versions.
It actually is..... The trick to the water section is to never press up or down on the spikes - if you only press left and right you'll simply bop up and down into the top spikes without dying lol. I only wish that I was privy to this as a kid lol.
No, you're not crazy, in the American and European releases they added the motorbike theme; however, in the original Japanese version (which is the one that I am running on) the motorbike theme hadn't been createed for it.
i got to the end stage a few times but didn't realise that the tablet you got gave you the order that you had to run over the icons with. Ghosts would come out and kill you
Tbf, the game actually intends you to defeat Janken the normal way, but we use the cane there to skip him lol. We used to use the cane a bit earlier to skip out the water section with the spikes, but that isn't as fast as skipping out the final battle with Janken. The end screen puzzle is fairly easy to remember once you've done it enough - 321, 4312, 545 haha
3 года назад
Yes, I used the cane to get through the collapsing bridge, and then I fought Janken (it was a easy battle, you just had to stay behind him). Never knew one could avoid it.
Yeah, I was extremely close to resetting on that messed up jump. I'm glad I didn't but there's 7 seconds of time save there so I'll probably come back to beat this at some point
Indeed, from a casual standpoint Mario is easy compared to Alex Kidd, I never did beat this as a kid. From a speedrunning standpoint, however, Mario is 10x harder than Alex Kidd lol, mainly due to how optimised and popular it is. Alex Kidd still has a was to go before it reaches that level of insanity
As a kid in the late 80s never got past the final level. Where are you suposed to learn the tile combination from the end so that the crown appears? I remember doing the game over and over and never got to finid out until the internet came around.
You're basically supposed to free your brother on the first castle (Lv 11). This allows you to acquire the letter to the king on the same level, which you then exchange for the Hirotta Stone on Lv 14 (if you don't have the letter the King just summons a ghost). This stone tells you the combination (even though it reads from right to left). The pattern never changes, so once you know the combination you do not need to go out your way for the Hirotta Stone.
I'm assuming there's some alternate paths, i completed the game multiple times back in 93' . but some sections seemed different. obviously meeting his brother isn't a requirement
Yes, there are a few different routes to take on Ch 11. The route we take is the fastest, and freeing Alex's brother isn't needed to complete the game.
By pausing as we enter the Janken screen we can select the Cane to completely avoid the fight. The moderators were unsure if this was an intentional skip designed by the devs, or if it was an unintended oversight in the coding. As such, they (the moderators) did not know how to correctly class the Janken skip (a 'Glitch' or a 'Skip'). In the end, they decided that it should be legal in a glitchless run.
Two Questions: 1-Why you take the motocycle in the second stage ans sounds standard music and no moto music? 2-In the first level you take 310$ but in the shop of the 2nd stage you have 220$. 😆😆😆😆
1 - In the JP original version of the game, the Bike Song does not exist. It was added for the subsequent NTSC and PAL releases. 2 - Money bags that you grab that are already placed on the screen (not from boxes) are worth $10. I grab ten of these for $100. I punch six money blocks and five of them were large ($20) and one was small ($10) so that's an additional $110. The other $10 comes from a glitch that happens when you hit the Money Bag that is in the air at a specific angle; you can get two for one this way, which is what happened on the final money bag as I fell into the water. This isn't something that can be controlled; the glitch either happens or it doesn't (and most of the time it doesn't). We always punch six money bag blocks on Lv 1, and three of them need to be large bags or else it's a reset unless we get the extra $10 from the glitch, but as I said, that doesn't happen often so usually it's just a reset (it takes too long to get to Lv 2 just to find you have $190, again lol). Note that I purposely didn't get the 11th money bag before the water because I knew that I had enough; normally we get 11 lots of fixed $10 bags but the final one can be missed if we get 4x Large bags from the boxes (or more) as it saves a few frames.
I remember completing this game a couple times as a kid. How I ever guessed that last combination of symbols is a mystery tho. Back then we had no RUclips or anyone to ask, so it was just trial and error :D
Amazing work dude. Surprised how many people think this is difficult I'm seeing in comments on videos. My brother and I both beat it when we were in primary school. This is just how it was. We'd prepare specially to tackle Wonder Boy 'cos you just have to sit there and play 40 levels straight through.
wow you've made this game look so damn easy! never been able to finish it with those symbols in the last stage. how did you know which order to jump on?
It's always the same - 321 4312 545 The game intends you to find the letter on the first castle stage, you then exchange the letter for 'Hirotta Stone' later on (if you don't have the Letter then High Stone just tells Alex to "go away" and summons a Ghost), you can then use the stone to work out the puzzle at the end level. The solution is fixed, so it doesn't matter if you actually get the stone or not - so long as you know the sequence, you're good.

Wow i never knew you could ram the motorbike into the Forest Bear?!😮😂
Jesus
@@dynamixdj9506 Never knew that. There where some items I just didnt kow what they do or where to use them. Thanks for the explanation!
How do you skip fighting Janken the Great at the end tho?
By pausing as we enter the Janken screen we can select the Cane to completely avoid the fight.
The moderators were unsure if this was an intentional skip designed by the devs, or if it was an unintended oversight in the coding. As such, they (the moderators) did not know how to correctly class the Janken skip (a 'Glitch' or a 'Skip').
In the end, they decided that it should be legal in a glitchless run.
Unbelievable!!
That ending, after all that 😂
Wow I thought that that underwater spiked maze in the last castle was impassable
Yeah it's actually quite easy once you know how, Just don't press Up or Down as you're going past the spikes and you'll be fine :)
I like the master system better than the ones. I couldn't convince anyone else in my elementary school.
Those were days, punching animals in the face as a kid.
Two Questions:
1-Why you take the motocycle in the second stage ans sounds standard music and no moto music?
Can we play this game nowadays? Where can I find it and which console can I play on???
I'm fairly certain the PSN has a downloadable copy of Alex Kidd for just a few quid.
Its on xbox arcade along with super hang on and shinobi. Great games and thr trials are cool too, cheap as chips.
Or you can just download a retro gaming app onto your phone, tablet, etc
You can now! Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is out now and it includes the original game is you play "classic mode" I bought it on PS5 personally
Why is Janken the symbol for the Radaxian Castle level if Gooseka is the boss?
The first game I figured out a glitch on.
I remember completing this game a couple times as a kid. How I ever guessed that last combination of symbols is a mystery tho. Back then we had no RUclips or anyone to ask, so it was just trial and error :D
my first ever console game.
Memmoooorrriiiiiiiies !
Amazing work dude. Surprised how many people think this is difficult I'm seeing in comments on videos. My brother and I both beat it when we were in primary school. This is just how it was. We'd prepare specially to tackle Wonder Boy 'cos you just have to sit there and play 40 levels straight through.
Insane bro, I could never beat it as a kid haha.
... 13:06 Rock, Paper, Scissors... And Middle Finger
Haha
That theme song lol Duda Duda Duda Duda loot loot.
wow you've made this game look so damn easy! never been able to finish it with those symbols in the last stage. how did you know which order to jump on?
It's always the same - 321 4312 545
The game intends you to find the letter on the first castle stage, you then exchange the letter for 'Hirotta Stone' later on (if you don't have the Letter then High Stone just tells Alex to "go away" and summons a Ghost), you can then use the stone to work out the puzzle at the end level. The solution is fixed, so it doesn't matter if you actually get the stone or not - so long as you know the sequence, you're good.
@@dynamixdj9506 ohhh right! tbh i was way too young at the time to even understand english so i just did whatever ^^
well thanks for that! i finally know how, 30 years or so later xD
Same here...many moons ago. But what a great game. Had it for a Christmas present built in with my Master System II
@@danielmullady1271 Same here dude - it was the first game I ever owned when I was like 4 or 5 yrs old haha
Are you guys telling me u never knew about the stone tablet u pick up for saving his brother. It tells on the stone tablet what the sequence is.
