The reliance on your phone has ruined disney. They need to let you get your fast passes and line skips without using a phone. I get they want to track guests, but just use those rfid tags and not require a phone.
Which is why I prefer the Universal Experience now. Although, I’m sure they’ll screw it up when Epic Universe opens. It’s not great when the theme park I’d most like to visit now are back to 1 990s wdw.
I always say, when people say you need to be on your phone throughout the entire day, just needs to learn to finesse the app much better. Sure, it would be better without a phone, but the app take literally 10 minutes max out of your day if you work it right.
That was exactly my impression, too. And my last WDW visit is almost 9 years ago now. I used to visit often when i was younger (experienced early 90s Epcot and "MGM" & Animal Kingdom from since when they opened) .. i'm a Disney Parks addict. But that last trip really put me off WDW in particular. I've actually learned to appreciate the non-Disney european theme parks, cause when i go to a park i want to chill and not be forced to organize every minute of my day..
I was there on September 12th, 2001. There were more cast members than guests that day. It was like walking through a ghost town. Main Street was almost completely deserted. And obviously the impact of 9/11 was still very much unfolding, which made it feel strange and wrong to get on a ride at all. We had debated on going, but we had spent a lot of money already on the planned vacation so we ultimately went through with it. It truly was surreal.
SAME… our very first trip as a family (my parents and I at 10 years old) was that December. I have missed that Disney AND that Universal ever since, despite going every two years or so.
I actually went to Disney World Thanksgiving break that same year, about a month after this. Not as many people there. Back then, the week of Thanksgiving was a slow week for the parks. Best trip ever.
The nostalgia I miss is the absence of the phone. People walking and acting like normal people. Now we are extensions of our phones, awkward, and annoying.
We will not go quietly into the night…we will go on with our normal lives not lived in fear but in hope. (Our hearts go out to all the families involved and affected by the attacks one month from the recording of this tape)
We went to Disney world for the first time in October 2001. The pilot came out to speak to the passengers and security was crazy from uk to USA. Many service people wearing their NY uniforms. They were allowed in free of charge. So many people shaking them by the hand. Very moving
This is the inflection point for WDW. 9/11 and the tourist slump resulted in an almost endless wave of massive cutbacks in the park. Cuts that were never undone. It just got worse from here, took a while before it became really apparent though. To see this level of Disney quality you’ve to go to Tokyo now.
This was one week after my now husband and I were there. Thought our trip might be cancelled after 9/11. Glad we made it because on 10/4 he proposed in the UK between the parade and Illuminations❤
Seeing this back it's crazy how much more of a "dark ride" dark rides were back in the day. I've always thought that Pirates lighting has also heavily changed (beside Johnny Depp being added) and I can see in this video it has. It's hard to remember if you're right, or wrong in these situations when you're young seeing things for the first time. The biggest change in lightning in Pirates is the scene with the sword that goes through the skeleton. That part is so brightly lit right now you can see everything in that scene. I always felt the intense lightning was out of place and now I know why.
I love Walt Disney World so much. I first went in 2011 when I was 19 years old. I was expecting somthing like Hershey Park my local theme park in Pa. And Holly Micky mouse it literally blew my mind. The scale of the resort itself All the places to stay all the different parks… at the time down town Disney. It just all blew my expectations. The rides were like nothing I expected. I been back 4 times since 2011 and havnt been able to afford to go recently. Man what a place. Being a 92 baby. I grew up with the Disney movie Renaissance so I always was a Disney fan. But WDW turned me into a Disney superfan😅
2002 was the first year I got to go. We went in December, a month after I turned ten years old. We were there during Walt’s 100th birthday, which was pretty cool. 🥰
We booked a trip for the end of September that year. After 9/11 we debated cancelling the trip because we felt guilty considering the circumstances, and we were unsure of the flying situation because all flights were grounded indefinately at the time. Ultimately we decided to go because the terrorists WANTED us to cower in fear and Americans needed to send them a collective middle finger to show them they’ll never win. Even though they resumed flights in the days before our trip we decided to drive down to Florida instead of flying. When we got there the place was a ghost town and the mood was incredibly somber. While the lines were conveniently shorter than what we had experienced in past trips, that was a Disney visit we would rather erase from our memory.
It feels weird having traveled before 9/11. Granted this video is 3 months after my trip when I was 6yrs. Now 23yrs later and 16 more Disney trips since then 😅 Feels like yesterday almost
Watching the parade I can only imagine the cast member that is working for Disney and telling his family back home that he's the 3 dancing broom in the parade.
Very interesting as we were there from the UK around 3 weeks after 9/11. It was a bit surreal and both Disney and Universal were very quiet. I think a lot of US residents were understandably reticent to fly. For us it never entered our mind. I remember a cast member at Universal thanking us for coming as without the Brits there would have been no one there!
ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter! My brother went on that and was so freaked out by the air that blew on your neck. I was too chicken to try it out hahaha
9/11/2001, I was 6 years old, I remember bits and pieces of visits to Disney World as a child, but not until I was about... 8? Even then, this feels like a fever dream to me.
We went to Disneyland 3 days after 9/11 you could shoot a cannon down Main Street and I remember the F-18’s flying a perimeter over the area multiple times.
39:30 just realized the George Bush animatronic was supposed to be Al Gore but they changed it last minute when Bush won, the same way the Trump one was supposed to be Hillary. That´s why they look so odd.
I think I went in 2003 or 2004, as a kid, so it was cool seeing this. I'm FINALLY going back again this fall, after a couple of decades. I worked at Disneyland until the pandemic, so that's really the only park I KNOW.
Disney can still charge the same amount for tickets and food as they did back in 2001 and still make a profit today, 23 years later! 40:00 wow they actually clapped George Bush.
Before the woke mind virus, one day I hope disney will change back to their old ways. You know the ones about traditional, nuclear families, regardless of income. Instead of doubling down on the woke and rich. It's ok. My family will just have theme park experiences elsewhere and make memories in other places.
I miss this era of Disney. When you could just go thru the parks and explore and not have to manage every damn minute through an app on a smart phone.
The reliance on your phone has ruined disney. They need to let you get your fast passes and line skips without using a phone. I get they want to track guests, but just use those rfid tags and not require a phone.
I agree 100%

Thank you for this. I was at MK on 9/11, and seeing the park so close to as it was then is helping me process 💕

Spotted my family. Thank you!
Amazing 🤩 so great to hear that 🙌❤️

Wow I would be born exactly one year later
Wish they could bring 2001 Walt Disney World back
Me too. Epcot at her prime 🥲

Me too! There was no one there.
Notice there's no autumn decorations out. The Halloween party didn't start until a year later.
Great! Thanks for sharing. I took my two kids in April 2000 at 6 and 8 years of age. We stayed a week and park hopped.Had a blast! 😊
Your welcome

Wish I was in my 30's in 2001 for the celebration of 100 Years of Magic - Walt Disney World!
so how old are you now
Imagine being a kid during the time.

I went this year when I was younger. I still have a shirt from back then

Early 2000s Disney was the best Disney. Also, the post-9/11 crowds were so low for quite awhile. Good times.

I've always firmly been in the belief that Spectromagic is Disney's greatest nighttime parade. What a huge loss.
@MagCynic absolutely . . it was the best!
Those beautiful Castle Hub trees ❤️😭
I have hope one day Disney will bring them back.
Yes! so many beautiful trees in the Castle Hub, there was also quiet a few at Main Street Square opposite the Train Station
Gee! Pour People to those Who Died in the Attacks shall Rest in Peace!

Aww this reminds me of waking up in the middle of the night at Disney resorts (the ad at the beginning) with the TV on
Oh how I miss the old TTA voice segment. I only got to hear the old version once but it always stuck with me. The new version is not the same.
I Was There At DisneyWorld Magic Kingdom In 2001! Walt Disney World! When I Was 5 Years Old?
U are the king my friend 🎉🎉🎉
Wow that walkie-talkie ring really brought me back the most.

tomorrowland at night looks just as magical as it does today
Not nearly as empty as many would make you think it was. This was a Sunday, though. I’d be curious to see a weekday video
Ryan, I have videos from weekdays in the other parks and will be uploaded soon 👍
It feels weird having traveled before 9/11. Granted this video is 3 months after my trip when I was 6yrs. Now 23yrs later and 16 more Disney trips since then 😅
Feels like yesterday almost
Could you combine all of 2001 Holday videos into a one big video package?
@dragondaveltd1992 Ive been thinking about doing this, It would take so time to put together but would be worth it, Thanks for suggesting it 👍
Sad 9/11 to Happy with Disney.

Roger, I remember cast members saying that as well as there being quiet a few Brits there
What happened to all those trees!!! Not a single one of them to be found now….
It would be great to know what happened to them, but I'm sure Disney will have re-housed them elsewhere on property
They are too much of a liability with hurricanes. And a nightmare to clean up after.
@@momokoblue8032 good point

Ive seen so many other comments with people saying how much that bit freaked them out 😮😂
Um... buddy? It's Mickey's Toontown. Mickey's Starland was done in 1996. Can you change from Starland to Toontown, please?
Corrected, Old habits die hard calling it Mickey's Starland! lol 👍
@@DisneyDave Thanks, buddy
I was there a week after 9/11 and stayed at the Polynesian. It was empty. Very spooky...
Perfect Day to get your mind off of what happened back then.
9/11/2001, I was 6 years old, I remember bits and pieces of visits to Disney World as a child, but not until I was about... 8? Even then, this feels like a fever dream to me.
how do you get these old vhs videos?
@zombiem3mes441 these old VHS videos are what I filmed when we visited Disney World
We went to Disneyland 3 days after 9/11 you could shoot a cannon down Main Street and I remember the F-18’s flying a perimeter over the area multiple times.
I think this was from October 11, 2001.
I thought this was going to be a retrospective
Right after the singularity event
39:30 just realized the George Bush animatronic was supposed to be Al Gore but they changed it last minute when Bush won, the same way the Trump one was supposed to be Hillary. That´s why they look so odd.
The prices gets expensive when, it already happened to 9/11.

That’s not that bad on most of the podcasts I listened too they made it sound like it was a ghost town
9/11以降東京のパークでもセキュリティが少し厳しくなったの覚えてる
I don’t get it didn’t we already celebrate 100 years?
@dwightk.schruteiii8454 this 100 years celebration was for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney
Disney can still charge the same amount for tickets and food as they did back in 2001 and still make a profit today, 23 years later! 40:00 wow they actually clapped George Bush.
