- I rented a U-Haul motorcycle trailer and did a 700-mile round trip to pick up 2 bikes. Overall a pretty good unit, designed for hauling motorcycles. This video covers some tips and tricks I would definitely use next time I rent one.
Video Editor I use; FILMORA9, lots of features, great one time price;

Thank you for posting this. Im off to uhaul tommorow to begin my journey. This was most useful.
Thank you for those valuable info! About to move from MN to WI with my 2 bikes.
Loads of good info; thanks for recording this, I would never have thought about most of it.
Very helpful- taking my Goldwing 1,200 miles this weekend, and this is perfect. Also love the sound of Maple Syrup in your accent 🥰
Thanks, really helps me picture the whole business for my own move :)
Nice explanations! Thanks
Thanks, this was really helpful.
Thank you for your video.
Thank you for the tips
Thanks for posting
Tip for long chains: twist to desired length, then attach to vehicle, leaving just enough slack.
Appreciate your video my hillbilly friend. Great job.
How high is the hitch ball for this trailer from the ground? What diameter ball is required?
Thanks for sharing
I just reserved the 5x9 trailer. Putting 3 dual sports in it. KLR650 in center. KLR250 on one side with front wheel in corner. DR350 on other side front in other corner. I think it will work.
Did it work
What was your average towing speed?
Will a four flat plug work?
I plan to also do a fairly long trip to pick up a motorcycle..... I will be renting and returning same place in my town, how much did it cost you? And does U-Haul provide ratchet straps as well?
They messed up their records, only charged for one day (under 20$). Fuel was about 30-40% more than the usual trip (versus car only). UHaul sells a lot of stuff, depends on the store - I got a ball hitch at the same UHaul, really well made, for a good price. Straps are sold everywhere, and online. Get the kind that ratchet.
My local Uhaul will only rent these for local use. If you want to tow out of state you do so at your own risk.
Where are the brake lights for this trailer? I am pretty sure in the United States you have to have working brake lights on a trailer.
Any information and fit for TWO bikes?
What speeds are max ?
The little 10" tires are actually better-much less bouncy.
Capacity on the trailer is ~1600lbs/750kg. It's 800lbs empty, max weight 2400lbs.
Twist the chains to take up the slack. They're designed to loop through the hitch and back to rings on the trailer.
Electrical can be looped around the handle on the trailer.
To lock it to the tow vehicle, padlock the chains to the hitch.
800 lbs and he is complaining it is a pig ? That's a lightweight ! What was he towing with , a geo prizm?
@@azr2d1 Buick sedan, I think.
I hook my trailer up when I rent from u-haul. They also mostly use 10 ply tires on the trailers. Twist the chain around itself to shorten it up. Last thing I towed on it was an 2015 Indian RoadMaster with no problems. They also normally put stickers with X on the damage. You might use have a bad dealer but you with your inexperienced employees.
What ball size is needed to tow the motorcycle trailer ?
2''
@@oscarmoreno972 1 7/8" also works.
For long chains all u do is keep turning the chains to your desired length it’ll shorten as you keep twisting it.
Would you recommend this for a 1000cc bike, traveling around 1200 miles?
I’m about to tow a 2020 Ducati V4 with a 1992 Nissan hardbody two wheel drive and afraid it’s not going to pass u haul vehicle inspection before I go pick the trailer up.
I towed my Honda Goldwing in this trailer with my 4.7 liter Dodge Dakota. I didnt even feel it behind the truck. What were you towing with?
I also have a dodge dakota its a 2004 but it has the 3.6
Pinto.
With a very recent U-Haul bike trailer rental it was great. I don't see why you'd pull a trailer with two bikes with a small car. That's most likely why you had so many fuel milage problems. My pickup towed it great.
Buick Lucerne is a big heavy car with auto adjusting rear suspension and powerful V8 engine and strong brakes. 3500 lbs towing limit. The issue is front wheel drive, but adjusting suspension should compensate.
What size ball hitch is it?
What car did you use to pull this bad boy? I am planning to rent this and put a 2 sport bike at the back.
Most vehicles can pull this.
Trailer and one bike will be
Does the trailer comes with tie downs?
No.
And idea what the hitch height is ?
very low, guessing based on where my hitch sits, 10 -12"
@@diymotorcycleguy6529 thanks !
I read on their website, and was also told over the phone by a U Haul rep, that 17” was nominal ball height (center of the ball). I would agree that 17” is correct because the trailer was then level on my 17 1/2” ball.
holy shit! you pulled it in a buick lacrosse? i am worried on my 4runner...
4Runner would be fine. I commonly haul 2000lbs with my Rav4 with no problems what so ever.
What vehicle was used to Tow trailer ?
Good towing
Looks like a Buick Lucerne.
If the chain's are to long, tie them in a knot. Just make sure you have turn room
I'd say this guy has no idea about trailers. I've hauled more with a Alero and had no problems. My rav4 had absolutely no problems with one of these and that's only 2.5L 4 banger.
U-Haul values their cargo vans at 85k???? WTH they smoking
They value the motorcycle trailer at 6k
I'll take fraud for 1000 Alex. No idea how they get away with overvaluing everything they have. Doubt their insurance agrees that this is 6K.
You towed a 800lb trailer with a car, no wonder you had a rough ride an crappy gas mileage, your motor was going crazy.. it's not meant to tow lol
It’s a trailer with one wheel choke but you had two bikes! Is that mean U-Haul doesn’t care how many bikes you load on the trailer?
The built in wheel choke is nice, but the trailer's corners secure the front wheels just as good (when loading 2 bikes).
Officially, they do...but not a big deal. I'll note that if either bike has any sort of bags/panniers, 2 likely will not fit on this narrow trailer, and they will probably scrape together trying.
They don't care as long as you don't exceed maximum weight
Your dealer was definitely a doofus. He didn't know how to hook it up, do a walk-around, check the lights? Write the company a letter!
The ramp gate is so heavy… are you kidding? Hope you didn’t break a nail! The tiny car you used to pull with was way too small to pull anything and you aren’t supposed to pull with a front wheel drive anyway. I didn’t understand the locking the ramp so it couldn’t close. Did you just put a lock through the pin hole so you couldn’t latch it? Or fix it so it couldn’t be raised? If only keeping the pin from holding it closed, someone could simply tie it in the raised position and drive away. Also, if a thief is going to take it, cutting the wires wouldn’t even slow them down and hiding it under a tarp with it hitched to you tiny car isn’t going to deter anyone either. If I was a young woman, or maybe a college student, because let’s face it, our education system has dumbed down our kids, then this might have been helpful, but to most men, nothing was mentioned that any man that’s ever done anything would have already known. They’d know to use a truck or suv to pull with not their wife’s car.
All I hear is Red Green...lol
FFS, thanks that's all I hear now too.
All you do is complain
