your rudder also acts as a brake. Quit spinning it from one full lock to the other. people making small adjustments get through. Also backing off full revs just as you clear the gate is totally unfair on anyone making a run behind you.

Valve clearance, valve seats, piston rings and gaskets are important for a clean combustion in order not to loose power and minimize pollution. Not the rudder but the engine stays the heart of the vessel.
Minimize pollution??? Last thing on their minds. At least these people are working, being productive, feeding their families unlike Al Gore and his jet that pollutes more than a hundred of these old barges.

Странные конструкции у судов, корпуса сделаны так, что при перегрузе они создают большое сопротивление движению. Зачем тогда перегружать? Все равно если не пройдёт ворота надо часть груза скидывать за борт или это морякам не очевидно? А двигатель не жалко? Или их там бесплатно раздают, если он от предельных нагрузок он встанет? Странное непонимание элементарных вещей - в попытке один раз получить чуть больше денег ты рискуешь на долгое время встать на ремонт и вообще денег не зарабатывать.

Вот он где реальный русский "авось", сумасшедший перегруз, я тоже так переживал за эти корыта с грузом, как будто сам у руля был.
Река сбрасывает напор через какое-то время после открытия плотины, по мере снижения перепада. Поэтому не факт, что груженая посудина не сможет со второй попытки, или с третьей. На это и расчет.

My favorite part is how every boat is overloaded to the point of submersion. Ahhhh Asia, they don’t disappoint. Or give a damn about anyones safety apparently.

basic safety and training are worth every penny. No lifejackets, clearly no observation of the most basic Rules of the Road when it comes to boat handling, giving way, no lighting, no protection for the crew, overloading as a norm and a whole lot more besides.
The only boat that I saw is not overloaded is at the 925 mark.

This is a classical hydraulics laboratory channel I studied in college as a civil engineer. There appears to be a "hydraulic jump" maybe back about 20 feet from the front of the dam where boats drive hits that and without a forward momentum with the deep draft they "stall" and can't move forward.
I worked on a barge in the houston ship channel, we hauled origanite, that very fine deep sea sand ,our equipment was so bad we had to patch the barges with underwater epoxy while in route, they sat just as deeply as these barges, and like them it was a constant battle keeping tbe bildges pumped, ancient pumps that were difficult to start,we'd tie 2 orc3 together and push them up the channel and bayous past heavy ship traffic , the day shift was ok but at night in the fog was hairy to say the least.
Hard working people that keep their boats in good condition. Many fresly painted.

I noticed that almost all of the boats had a potted plant on board. Some in front, or in back. One boat had a lot of them. Is there a back story to this? Maybe for luck or somthing? I found it very interesting.
Hi, thank you for watching the video. Some potted plants on the boat are because the boat owner has a habit of planting ornamental plants to bloom to see flowers or grow plants used to eat leaves or fruits such as chili, onion, celery, etc.

I presume some if not most of these boats are people homes as well. I noticed the well painted ones must be the owners with more money. These boats have some power to get through the dam gates loaded. I am amazed.
The amount of free-board, empty vs. loaded, is amazing. Loaded they are practically sunk.

I am not a boatsman, but I think it's not a good idea to be that close behind another boat, if you are already low on clearance and power. You are fighting the current PLUS the wake the boat before you creates, pushing even more water into you. What a weird place.

Hello, thank you for watching the video. This boat carries sand. Its main component is sand, but it contains mud. This sand is taken from a very large river and used to fill ponds, lakes... and do a number of other jobs. There needs to be another boat there ready to pull them through. A guy could make alot of money just helping the heavy boats get through the lock.
If you overload boats as a basic principle, then these boat go much deeper into the water. Thats creates much more water resistance, for which the engine is then too small. These boats with literally no free board can sink easily. A very dangerous operation. But well, thats pointing out the obvious.

A flow meter could be installed in the dam. You can see how many knots the water is flowing. This way it is easy for the captain, for know if it is possible to drive in the current. Every captain knows how much the ship's maximum speed is.😊

@@Boguchany свою, по спокойной воде, в зависимости от нагрузки - знают, а так же с учётом течения реки - иначе им было бы сложно в этом бизнесе, а вот скорость в воротах плотины - это лотерея
в воду поставить турбинку с генератором, а в зависимости от скорости её вращения будет менятся мощность вырабатываемого электротока - семафор над воротами, можно "старинный" - чем выше напряжения, тем выше рычаг семафора и деления на лимбе - скорость течения, от нуля до 7 баллов, попробовав раз, капитан буден знать сколько "баллов" для него являются непроходными
ещё проще - поставить в спокойной воде рядом с воротами два поплавка, а разницу уровней воды - отображать через систему рычагов на "семафоре"

So many overloaded boats, the Vietnamese take things to the extreme. When they go fishing, clamming or crabbing they harvest everything even the undersized ones, so there is nothing left for future generations. My ex is Vietnamese so I know from experience, she would buy clams from a Vietnamese fisherman that I found that he was harvesting the clams from a beach that had several signs the beach was polluted and not safe to eat.
