It's so nice to listen to a guy who knows what he is talking about.
Facts.
Dangita dangita dang
This guy is the best, honest, direct, humble, lethal, dangerous, respectful lol. Rare to to someone who gives this sort of real knowledge, it’s like having an expert coach infront of you.
Yep
Bas is 100% right. I knew this stuff but sometimes you forget. Its good to be reminded again. Trying to impress women, your gym people etc. etc. WHO CARES what people think.
your ego will always be your problem
@@adversecatalyst2190 The ego, that everyone has; its only a problem if its left unchecked. Absolute power (when everyone is worshipping you) reveals the true character of a person that always existed. Maybe you should start thinking "How would I act now that I have absolute power? Would I be a kind humble person?" Being too humble is counter productive, being too egotistical is also counter productive. A person needs balance, be somewhere in the middle.
"do it for (only) you" is a popular notion but not many ppl truly live that way, so yes our ego (insecurities in our self identity) are always in the way at least a little...flow state/samadhi is the only state i know of where we're out of our own ways. Eh?
✌️
I tried this technique to impress women, I locked us in a room together, but it didnt go very well
I'm not even a fighter and I love listening to Uncle Bas. Good stuff!
As a 15 year old I was told by two old Navy veterans "Being nervous is a good sign means You care worry when You are not nervous." Great Video.
I needed this advice about 20 years ago. Better late than never.
I am NOT a fighter by any stretch of the imagination, yet everything you are saying can be applied so effectively to any performance anxiety one may have regardless of vocation. This advice is 100% applicable to anything one's nerves might be compromised over. Bas you are a class act. Thank you Sir
Appreciate it, thank you!
My all time favorite fighter!!
"RUTTENS TAKIN OVER RUTTENS TAKIN OVER ITS OVERRRR!!!!💪👍❤ still gives me goosebumps today as day I saw it .
Same, Sebastiaan is a living LEGEND!
Bas Rutten, Fedor Emeliananko, Randy Cotoure, Chuck Lidell and Lyoto Machida are my favorites.
Bas is always informative but his charisma is off the charts.
Love how Bas always adds humour to his vids. The advice about keeping quiet about upcoming fights, for me is also great advice for life in general. These days folks seem to advertise everything.
Absolutely the most honest fighter ever. Love and respect Bas!
Wow Bas. Never got this from anyone before. Have a huge, pretty much do or die fight in my life right now. Biggest loss, biggest win of my life, and I’m in my late fifties. Thank you very much.
Damn, your fighting in your 50s?
Good luck brother
ROOTING FOR YOU, JOSEPH 🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊💥🤯🏆😎
I fight (and I mean fight, not grapple, wrestle, roll, scramble or whatnot) in my forties and I am feeling young now )
So, how did it go?
go for it!
Its stuff like this why Bas is the absolute master. Thank you Bas
God bless Bas
Bas, I loved it when you spoke about breathwork. I worked for a long time as a hospital chaplain. Through the pandemic I was in a long-term care facility, and people could not see their families, even their neighbours in the units, and this breathwork helped both myself to manage the stress of a very non-normal situation, and also helped the patients as well. It works so well!
Greetings Bas, I'm a practitioner and teacher of Martial Arts, Skydiving, and BASE jumping. I was a bar bouncer and fought in one tournament. I also took 2403 passengers out of airplanes. 100% agree with you Sir about: 1) using of long, slow exhaling to calm the body via the para-sympathetic nervous system (vagus nerve), 2. getting a jumper/fighter to focus on the technical details instead of their fleeting emotions, and 3. commit to ALWAYS showing up early and over-prepared. Thanks again Mr. Rutten!
Appreciate it, thank you!
Thank you Bas Rutten... all so true. I never fought as a youth and through adulthood always wondered if I'd just curl up into the fetal position and get the poo kicked out of me if I did. Started training in my 40's and like Bas said - I realize that perhaps getting whooped might not be too bad, too painful. I know that in the event of that violent confrontation I might just get pummeled but at least now I know that I'll stand up and we'll just see what a decade of training has wrought.
God bless you Bas, that's all i'm gonna say. Keep being you.
Nerves and fear is a good thing. Use it!
Legend. The most honest, knowledgeable and influencial person in the game. Thank you Bas, you are an exemple for me
You’re the best, Bas.
Real talk from a real warrior. Good psychological training and meditative breathing. The man has a world of experience in the fight/combat domain
I’ve been in many fights in my life and I have my own trick…when that feeling comes over you and you have that belly full of fear…picture it as a powerful white light and with every breadth, you expand it over your whole body. Something like that and it works for me.
Every fighter knows that there can only be 1 winner and the guy who wants it the most Wins! And every time you train and fight, you learn and get better each time! that's why experienced fighters usually do better in a professional fight! I like Bas Rutten, back in the day.. a Beast! He wanted it more than the other guys and was very aggressive, either you hurt the other guy, or he hurts you!
I'm an attorney. I resonate with this. I find it best to work really hard, grind, & prepare...in Private. And to everyone else, I under-promise and over-deliver. 👍
Be without fear in face of your enemies
Be brave and upright that God may love thee
Long live Bas
May God bless you, Bas, keep being a good role model.
Bas "The King Rutten". My sensei was Lorenzo Pavon, Wusu world champion and the legendary fighters you all have the same "thing" you are very good people.
Thanks Bas! This is something that I really struggled with wrestling in High School. I hope this is able to help a lot of people learn how to deal with their emotions, and I believe that this is useful even outside of competition.
Such great advice
I had 10 mma fights as an amateur, one or two thaiboxing fights and multiple grappling matches. My coach never told me any of this, and he saw my weakness was that I was a prisoner in my own head. I was nervous, didn't believe in myself and thought that I had trained poorly.
We had a disagreement with said coach one time, things got heated so I said to him "the problem with you is, that you have never fought, competed. You don't know what's going through a fighters head before the fight, how nervous you can get and f**k up the entire fight before it even starts."
He got angry of course and replied that I am the problem, I don't train enough and am focusing on other things.
Funny thing is, I was going to work so I would earn money, but all my spare time I was practicly living in the gym.
After this exchange with my coach things were never the same, I never fought again. That is one of the biggest regrets of my entire life. I thought that after my coach didn't treat me well, I'm not gonna look for another coach, I did not want to fight for anyone else ever again. I should have realized, that I was never fighting for my coach, I was fighting for myself.
I'm 38 now, and I still got some fight left in me. One of my biggest fears is, that it's too late for me and I quit too early. Hope these words would have reached me back then.
I feel it, brother.
37 & a few parallels with your feelings/thoughts.
even if you never compete again, may you do it for yourself, to be able to defend your loved ones and for the love of it.
It depends on the state of your body. I have been a heavy smoker, drinker and drug user since i was 14. But for most of my adult years training in some way or another. Had my first fight at 38, became National champion (with the amateurs) at 39 and fought last december at 40. I am still injured from my last tournament but hoping to compete again in a couple of weeks. If your body is not too banged up and you don't go out to fight young killers, you can still do it. I wish you the best of luck, Osu!
Yeah coaches can be dumb, I wish they would have told me the same. 38 is the age my buddy Jens started fighting, was a powerlifter, couldn't even ouch, now he fought like 7 amateurs and 6 pro's and won 75%. So it's not too later my friend! Godspeed
Just join the gym and take a fight in 3-4 months.
It's what I did at 32 years.
Get a coach and start today.
When I played football, I saw guys get so nervous they'd get sick... before a game some would even take a dump or throw up lol. I never really understood that, to be honest. For me, I would just zone out, excited for the challenge ahead. As Bas says, it’s all in the mind... blocking out the noise and staying focused. I completely get what he means.
I can totally relate to this message, even though I’ve never competed. I did spar with amateur boxers who competed in The Netherlands.
To cut a long story short: once you are used to getting rained on, no potential punch ‘on the street’ will scare you anymore. And that’s why you will probably never have to fight outside of - in my case - the boxing gym. And your reflexes are much better than the average Joe’s, who only kicked a ball in his life. People seem to be able to see you can scrap if you have to.
Having said that, I’ve never thrown a single punch outside of sparring. Because even when someone looks for an altercation, I will find other ways to handle that situation. That drunk bum doesn’t know me hitting him would be just as much of a disparity as him hitting his wife. That’s why I do everything I can to prevent such a scenario. Not out of fear, but because of my social responsibility.
Groeten uit Utrecht 💪🏻
Having never stepped in a combat gym ever, this video convinced me that I can now start a MMA career. Thanks Bas I feel fully confident. HHMMMMMMMMMM
BAS. You are the Steve McQueen of the martial arts world. May the Lord richly bless you and yours. Thank you for your sage advice.
You're the man, Bas! Most inspirational teacher I've had in a very long time. My training and focus improves every time I watch your videos. Thank you 🙏
Bas is a great coach.
Man, Bas is awesome. Truly a good dude and great Martial Artist and Fighter! :) If our paths ever cross, first drink is on me, Sir!
Bas, you’re the man!
Thank you for sharing. I especially gravitated to the “poker face” part of the video and that clicked with me as something I definitely will not forget and also taking time to learn about my opponent and give them false confidence if possible
Bas loves Jesus and is my favorite fighter
I love your kindness and teaching
I've never fought for sport, but I have for my life a handful of times. When I know that I'm about to fight, I have a very quick conversation with myself that goes "this person is going to try to hurt you, badly. If he doesn't know how to fight and/or restrain himself, he might hospitalize you or delete you and he may not even be trying to do that. You're going to take some shots, you may go to the ground. End this quickly. And if you see an opportunity to disengage and leave, leave quickly." Fighting is scary, but don't be scared while you do it. Try to see it as work.
I like this guy. a very wise man . a no BS man . I wish I was younger and could come to Holland to be trained by you. been there twice. I love Holland. excellent words of Wisdom . you Be careful.
This is such a gem!! Being nervous or having fear before the fight is very common to fighters like myself. But what you said is totally correct!! if I focus on realizing that I am actually fighting in the ring "For myself", that really lessens the unneeded pressure. Thanks a lot!! you're really the best
Fight wisdom from a mma legend great up load bas thanks 😊 👍
I always say, Bas Knows Best! Totally with the breathing; you’re stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system…very calming.
Mr. Rutten, your words of advice is like gold for my soul. Thank you for all you do. If only i could train with you.
Thank you Bas! I'll remember this the next time my wife gets mad at me when I forget to put away my dishes. Lol!
Love you Bas! OSSS!❤
I plan to try a fight before im 40, got 2 years until then and im feeling a little fear. Its great to hear this from a fighter who is a huge inspiration to me. God bless, Bas, you are a bad ass!
Hey bas, this is solid gold. I fight for self defense and not to compete, i hope i can see the same concepts for a street fight or self defense situation. I know youve also given advice in that realm too. Thanks bas!
Ps. Im a parishioner over at St. J’s - miss seeing you over there 🤙🏾
A True Teacher; hats off Sensei B Rutten 🙏🏻🙏🏾
Really excellent advice. Managing your fear can be useful in many endeavors, but it’s especially useful when it comes to interacting with women. So many guys are afraid of rejection, which is silly. The worst she will do is say no, and you’d be surprised at how many say yes. Women like confident, and assertive, men. I can’t even count how many times my friends would want me to start talking to girls, when we were out, because they thought a certain girl was hot, and wanted me to put in a good word, or something to that effect. I would sure end up putting something in, but it wasn’t a word about the guy who was too scared to approach the girl. Don’t be afraid. With practice, and repetition, it gets easier, just like everything else does. It helps if you’re in good shape, especially if you’re handsome, but being in shape is often good enough. That, and confidence, or at least courage, will get you pretty far.
Bas is the Man!! I've been a fan for 20 years.
If there was a sitatution where I needed someone to watch my back, I would pick a 59 year old Bas Rutten every day of the week! In my opinion, he is our modern day Bruce Lee.
Bas is a great human 🙏🏻
Love listening & learning from Bas! He’s seriously under-appreciated in martial arts circles as one of the all-time great fighters!
Thank you so much for the advice 🥊
I'm a tennis player, and don't know anything about fighting. But I love listening to his advice. You could apply his mental techniques to any sport.
Sir, you have no idea the immense respect I have you!
Wow, thank you!
Bas is the man
Wow I can't believe how good this video is. There's no substitute for expert advice.
This video is so dense with good information!
This is the best advice I have ever seen
Bas, thankyou very much for the advice. You always have a wealth of knowledge.
God bless you...
Blessings from Australia.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have everlasting life.
~ John 3:16
Love you Bas! Greets from germany.
Thanks for the wise words legend!!!!!!
Wow wow Bas..❤🙏🙏 I’ve been training /sparring/ competing for decades.. the knowledge u drop is so very valuable..
I wish had teacher like you from the beginning 🙏🙏
This is amazing advise, my son's now wrestle and I tell them to same, those that talk most fight least
Relative to calming, Japanese martial teaching is to pull on your ear lobes..very cool to the vagus nerve connection Bas is talking about.
Thanks Bas, you have a way with words and this really helped me.
One of the best videos I have ever seen on the mental aspect of cage fighting. Thank you
Wow, that was informative. When someone sees you smashing, knowledge isn't the first thing to come to mind.
Thanks for the lessons.
Hey Bas, Thank you. You’ve been an inspiration for some conflict in my personal life, I don’t compete anymore. Also, you’ve inspired my next step with Frontline. Thanks again, Be well.
Knowing your the absolute animal and no man can beat you.
That confidence comes from years of training, fighting and mental understanding off your power.
What I am talking about is street fighting.
Ring or cage even easier.
All these years I've been secretly giving myself q-tip eargasms after the initial swab and now I know the science behind it. Bas knows best.
😅
Love it. 1:14 had to pause and breath.😅 I always thought for some people you can hit them as hard as you want to certain parts of the body or head and nothing happens or such tiny effect you only managed to make yourself tired and open to counter attack. But hit soft medium or hard in specific places and the results are devastating esp hit 2 3 4 5 times soft or medium but fast. Call an ambulance. Experienced hunters with firearms endlessly discuss the importance of shot placement. IMHO you start to see the same patterns over and over with highly experienced people that know what their talking about.
Awesome coach’s information and mental reps for a fight.
Love ya Bas you’re the champ!
God bless Bas! Good one, bro!
Thank you, Bas :-) This mental aspect on pressure is so underrated.. I have had situations where my knees where trembling, knowing I was in (grave) danger. But I somehow managed my way through. I was always surprised, when people told me, that they thought i was so cool. I can not describe it, but somehow ( when the situation demanded it) some part of the brain was taking over, pushing away all feeling and just going in analyzis mode. A soothing and yet a frightening state. I think its important to be aware, that no one has to proof anything -TO OTHER PEOPLE. By the way; as a motor driver, it helps alway to relax the JAW muscles.. Just sayin :-) ruben ps. i answered to soon, before i came to "pokerface" hahah, so yes, that is correct, relaxing the face muscles to begin with, all the other muscles will follow..
Thanks for the video
You the MAN Bas Thank you
This is not just about fighting in the ring, it's also about generally working hard.
Top video Bas. Groeten vanuit Amsterdam. Zal hem aan de leerlingen laten zien!
Loved the Vagus nerve reset stuff.
❤
Bas You’re A Legend
Thank you Bas. So good, so nice, so smart. I love you, you got so much knowledge. You are a incredible nice person
This is a great method that can also be applied to your work as well.
Awesome advice as always Bas!
Fear fades once a fight and commitment starts
Great advice as usual! This can be applied to so many things in life 👍
Outstanding information 👏🏻 👌🏻 👍🏻 ❤ Listen to the Legend ❤
New suscriber. Thank you for the awesome piece of advice. Useful also for other stressfull situations. Oss!
Thanks for subscribing, and welcome!
Great advice, I love it Bas!
I always approached fear ( in combat) as if I was already dead, and that every action I took was one step back from the dead, to life.
Respect. Mate
Just went 1-1 in WV Toughman @ 38 yrs old. It was the best experience of my life, I got a knockdown & I got knocked down. Went the distance both fights n I'm very proud even though I planned on winning.
Does Bas realise how great his body language and hand movement are in his communication ❤
Great advice! Thanks!
amazing advices.. thank you Bas!
Thanks. I really like and value your insight.
