Me, as well, before I was in recovery I used to get in a lot of stupid bar fights, I wouldn't initiate them, but I'm short and not very built so was a way easy target for strip-mall martial arts experts, I don't know how many times I heard some variation of, "Dude, I've just gone right from zero to snap with no stops in-between, you don't understand dude, I've got a belt in , I'm gonna mess you up so bad, bruh...", all the while hoping I'd back down or some shit because their intimidation tactics had worked so well in the past x amount of times. But I never would, and I did get beat up a good number of times, too, don't get me wrong, I got some major ass-whuppings, but much more often than not it was usually moreso, bar empties out, everyone goes outside into some parking lot, square off, I'd pulled out my *very* basic two years of high school wrestling (which I was fucking terrible at BTW), shoot or sweep a foot, have them on the ground almost immediately before a punch even connects or was thrown, and then I wouldn't let them out of some basic but very painful hold until they'd yell for all to hear, "My cunt hurts, my cunt hurts!!" in front of a crowd of post-2 am drunks (preferably including their girlfriend/girlfriends), lol. It was mean and stupid of me to make them say that particular phrase, and honestly just not to walk away but I had a weak self-esteem and my pride fucked with my common sense, but I also wanted the experience to be humiliating enough that they'd think twice before picking on the little short twerps of the world like me again in the future, and having to yell out "My cunt hurts" in front of a couple of hundred people is a memorable wake-up call for any tough guy bully I'm sure... and maybe it's a rationalization for my lack of empathy, but in retrospect maybe, who know, it also may have saved a few of them from getting stabbed or shot or some shit later in life, lol, you never know who you're messing with just based on size or height or any outward appearance really. Even if you don't know how to throw a punch to save your life (I have zero skill in a stand-up fight, none whatsoever, other than ducking my head, lol), just a little bit of grappling knowledge and experience in competition where you actually need to learn controlled aggression and some technique, I'd put that up against someone who doesn't have any grappling (whether wrestling, judo, bjj) at all, but has such-and-such belt from spending endless hours on kata and/or whatever those dances are called per martial art, or was a high school bully, any day.

That actually happened to an old training buddy of mine (Thomas Schulte) in an MMA match in Denver back in the early 2000s. Thomas got him in an armbar, the guy panicked and bit the back of Thomas's leg and CRACK! - broken elbow (which looked nasty as hell, I still get queasy whenever I think about it), which he quickly tapped out to. Good job, genius, you still lost the fight and you get a bonus trip to the hospital.
bas rutten is the man....if I wanted to learn street fighting and self defense, this is the man. the guy is a fighter and knows what works and what doesn't.
@@spikefunakoshi5667 No, he did choke people out tho. But to break a neck you use techniques that are found in catch wrestling. You simply turn the head so the person looks to the left or to the right and then you push his head against his chest so that his ear touches his ribcage. It's extremely painful and it also prevents you from breathing. Also if you do it very explosive you break his neck. In the video Bas does the same thing only the other way around, he turns the head from behind and then pulls. It's a neckcrank and a neckbreaker for sure.
@@spikefunakoshi5667 What's your point. MMA is currently the most versatile combat sport there is and probably most MMA fighters would win against any other fighter who's on the same level but only practises only on one aspect (boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, etc). Also I'm not an MMA fan, I'm a fan of all styles of combat sports.
I love Bas Rutten. "If you poke my eye, I'm going to break your neck. You ready to go?" Nice, respectful, and giving them their chance to do what they want to do. Perfect.
+rainmechanic steven segal worked with some of the best mma fighters and is strictly aikido, as a cop he proved it works in real life on the street. Not all foreign martial art is nonsense. For example tai chi & shaolin kung fu, lots of circular movements which are the perfect defense against straight punches or strikes. The movements are made to re-direct energy aka qi and therefor save the user a lot of energy while exhausting the opponent. Any martial art when done by itself is a waste of time, however if you combine different martial arts then they are all useful. I learned lines from wing chun and now I apply that to my boxing, definitely improved my boxing. Same with muay thai mae mai & luk mai , I can apply those to my other styles such as shotokan karate. If you think in terms of training ranges & everything else, rather than styles you'll get better. E.g: learn defense first, than offense and then countering will be no problems. Learn your ranges such as punching range, kicking range, trapping range & grappling/ground range.
GrowingDownUnder except the shaolin monks have forgotten how to use their skills in real situations. It was born out of a need for such skills and was used on a regular basis in brutal, violent times. Now that they have no experience of constantly testing situations that would make their styles feasable in real situations, they are nowhere near what they should be. People back then actually learnt it with the purpose of using it, now they are similar in some ways to the dojo dwellers who never drift out of their safety zone to actually practise. The only thing that will be stronger about them is their minds and bodies. I could practice marksmanship for years with targets at the range, this doesn't mean i'm gonna be a dead on consistent killer in a real life or death situation where marksmanship will be needed.
+GrowingDownUnder "my other styles"? Really? The only thing growing down under here is the shit in your shorts. Try redirecting a stingray or crocodile's chi
"I can stab eyes too. Only I can do it better or more accurate as well." That's a great quote for anyone who thinks fighters are untested because "it's a sport."
Eye stabbing is the reason even trained fighters don't want to get involved in a street fight, though. MMA rules still protect them from specific, particularly terrible injuries that even unskilled opponents might have a chance to inflict.
It's more like, all the common MMA grappling patterns fall apart when eye stabs are allowed Thai clinch? --> Eye gouge! Judo clinch? --> Eye gouge! Pull guard --> Eye gouge! A significant amount of what gets used in MMA falls apart when there aren't rules against eye gouging. It's not necessarily effective in a "real" fight in the first place.
It's not about winning or losing, I don't think in terms of winning or losing, although I have done MMA fighting, I don't consider myself an MMA fighter, I consider myself a martial artist The point is, I am someone who can do MMA, who has done informal MMA, who has ~21 years of training across several styles I'm not as good as Bas Rutten per se, but I know if I were, I would still have (roughly) the same vulnerabilities I would never want to go to the ground with a common civilian because they might gouge my eyes, better to de-escalate the situation nonviolently.
>> If you're mounted by a BJJ practitioner and you gouge their eye you are going to get choked, an arm broken, or ground and pounded. I am a BJJ practitioner, I know what they're capable of, and I must disagree >> If you are in the clinch of a Nak Muay and you try to gouge their eye you will get an elbow to the face and thrown to the ground. I know every Muay Thai technique in the curriculum and have done extensive (many years of) sparring, sometimes but not always contact sparring, no, I must disagree The point is that all fighting leads to injury. It's not about winning or losing, its about how even MMA fighters have a reason not to want to fight.
Plus, Bas is a black belt in actual Karate, so I think he could call bullshit pretty quickly. Especially when the guy says his style is some nonsense called "Street Karate".
The best defense is a concealed firearm. Situational awareness and avoidance are not "defense", they are just being aware of what is happening and running away before it does.

I practiced Taekwondo for many many years, and one of the aspects that i loved more about it was that same reverence towards the upper belts. It taught me a lot about respect, restraint and how to behave and act towards other people. My master became like a second dad to me, and to this day i have the most respect for him. I believe that, when used correctly, that martial spirit that Taekwondo and other traditional martial arts strive to accomplish is a great help in the development of children and teens, even if it does seem a bit over the top to modern standards.
You are sooooo cool! Hey Guys this dude is so tough he carries a gun!!!!! Wow. What a cool person! How many people have you shot with your 9mm? I bet a lot. Since you are so strong and manly and cool.
I trained with Joe many years ago in Boston and he’s correct the blind devotion that people gave to the TKD instructor was ridiculous when the schools loyalty to them was as deep as wallets.
@MrBrenman21 Mr. Miyagi would say "you've already lost the argument". In MMA, you're often trading brain damage for money. I understand when people need to feed their kids, etc. etc. But it's legit to say "all MMA", especially if the only way to you're going to try and disprove him is to post "what dickhead?", I think you've actually proved his point, you and the three dickheads who upvoted you.
I think the cult thing is partly to do with a misinterpretation of Asian (especially Japanese) culture. I trained judo in Japan for a while and it's not remotely cultish. You bow in the same spirit with which you might slap hands: it's just the Japanese way of doing it. You are respectful to old-timers because that's normal behaviour in Japan. But ultimately judo training in Japan is just hard work. That's how you win medals.
@MrBrenman21 That's too much of a sweeping generalization. When I wrestled guys from the judo club were always challenging wrestlers to impromptu matches. I'd say the split was 50/50, it all came down to individual merit more than either discipline... and if BJJ was popular back then they have won every time, lol.
There are actually THREE real life places / things where pressure points and death touch works though. 1.Comic books / fictional books 2.Movies 3.Video Games :)
You really should discern betwen combat and underlying physiology - just visit physiotherpists, especialy one working with sportsmen. Then talk again about 'pressure points'.
I have a secret technique that Ba and Joe don't know about. It's the Jedi moukwi super fly technique. You can send a dynamic kinetic pulse over the internet to people and choke them out. I don't want to do it now though - as it wouldn't be fair on any of you.
If there's one thing I've learned through the years from Bas, it's that to stop an attacker, nothing compares to a good, clean, hard liver kick. If you land it properly, your opponent will cease to be a badass in about 2 seconds and fall to the ground in a ball. My case in point, Alistair Overeem vs Brock Lesnar. Folded like an accordion, and that was Brock Goddamn Lesnar.
Those fake martial art classes are more for people who want to play kung-fu with others and have nothing to do with reality or competition they are more in line with a dance class
Yeah looking back on my time spent in classes like that (it's all I could find) you'd come across some very bizarre individuals who were aspey as fuck and consisted on a diet of too many Jackie Chan movies. Glad I got out
I train BJJ and Muay Thai. But I have to say, playing Kung Fu sounds kind of fun :P I might just have to start a Kung Fu LARP group on Sundays when I'm not training LOL!
Before I started martial arts I remember being in a weight lifting gym and the guy working there didn't look muscular, I remember him telling he wasn't into weights he was into boxing, so I asked him where does he train and he says I don't train like normal people I do a different kind of boxing (with a serious look at his face), so I'm like what kind of boxing, he says it has weapons in it and I can't talk about it. I left the gym and almost exploded with laughter becuase I knew this guy was full shit since the beginning
The reason kung fu and similar martial arts aren't successful is these days people aren't willing to put in the work carrying water up stairs on a mountain and learning to fight blindfolded.
+Apocalypticresurgence So they made all that shit up way back when and have been conning everyone this whole time? No. The arts themselves are not ineffective in reality, to put it that way, though it shouldn't be put so simply. Any martial art is based in reality. They were all developed to actually use to actually fight, or defend oneself against someone wanting to fight (albeit in times/places where the average person they would have to fight was at best fighting with a similarly structured style) . Put the time and effort into training any of them and they will be as effective as they were intended, especially in the average self defense situation (most self defense situations do not involve an attacker who is a skilled BJJ practitioner for example). I'm not talking dim mak type shit here btw, just the overall actual martial art, whether it be kung fu or aikido or whatever else mma guys like to rip on. What DOES seem to be true is that some martial arts are far more effective in a 1 on 1 scenario against other martial arts (I specify 1 on 1 because in my opinion in a real street fight/self defense situation the ground is a bad place for a fight to go). BJJ and Muay Thai are the staples of "MMA" training for a reason: they work. Theres no doubt about that. I do think people who rip on traditional martial arts like kung fu like to ignore an important factor though which is the training itself. BJJ guys and MT guys tend to train hard. They tend to train a lot. The average kung fu or karate or whatever else school I can find in my city advertises classes being like 2 days a week for 2 hours, something like that. Also the BJJ/MT places tend to emphasize full contact sparring a lot more than other MAs. Thats a huge difference and it makes a huge difference. Put that kind of dedication into training any martial art and it will certainly be effective "in reality".
The delusion that you find on these comments sections are absolutely hilarious. Someone wrote that Ufc guys aren't trained killers. If a UFC guy wanted to kill someone they could do it without breaking a sweat.
+M4ri4n4sG4t3k33p3r^*^333 my point was that because these guys fight professionally under certain rules some people say they wouldn't be able to translate that style to the Streets. it's a dumb thing to say and makes no sense at all
mike howarth yh i get you, i'm just saying that if a normal person could kill another with their hands in a fight then imagine what a trained fighter could do. It would be light work for them.
***** lol why you so involved in this buddy? I didn't know i would get to you this badly and make you this angry when i wasn't even trying. Punching or kicking someone repeatedly in the head can kill them, punching or kicking a person throat to the point of collapsing can kill them, punching or kicking someone hard enough in the solar plexus can kill them, fragments of the skull or nose being driven into the brain by force can kill them, snapping a neck from sheer force or twisting in various ways can kill them, strangulation can kill someone, punches or kicks to the chest or heart can kill someone, breaking a rib or ribs can drive bone into various organs therefore killing someone, crushed or popped arteries in the testical or groin areas can cause death very quickly ect ect. None of these of rare causes of death and happen frequently whether it be purposeful or accidental, it may be a surprise to you but the human body can be extremely fragile. Plus i don't think you realise how damaging human bites can be, we have higher jaw strength than some monkeys. Depending on healthy jaw strength a human could easily bite chunks out of another, if aimed at a jugular or similar arteries then this would also cause death.
After the movie _Roadhouse_ I was amazed how many times in bars I would see guys in fights wind up with a big roundhouse _Karate_ kick- slip on some spilled liquid- and end up unconscious on the floor. It's like the dumbass' KO'ed _themselves._
faffaflunkie Why did you make it so that karate was italicized? You make it seem like karate roundhouses are bad when although generally not the most powerful nor fast, they are the most accurate and hard to guess because they travel in two directions rather than 1.
Soooo the amount of times is never, so u have never seen that. I have ceetainly never seen that. And with a racist anti Asian picture like that next to your name I'm guessing you haven't spent much time training n Asian martial arts either.
Years ago I got to learn the difference between the supermarket dojo crap (that I was already learning) and *real* self defence ie: the techniques they teach soldiers, prison guards and cops. It was a real eye opener! From that point on I stopped being a target for bullies and started being *actually* being able to protect myself.
I remember doing the bowing in judo as a kid, but to us, it just signified that the fight had started, like the bell in boxing or the whistle in soccer.
Some TKD douchebag came to our Judo class. He wore his gi, that's fine, but he kneeled on the side of the Judo blackbelts (quite rude since this was his first time in Judo). Every time the instructor showed us another technique, this TKD douchebag kept muttering crap like "that wouldn't work" or "a kick would stop that" or "nope, I'd punch him in the face". Our old Japanese instructor heard every word, but never let on. Then it was time for randori and the instructor, smiling, asked this TKD douchebag if he would like to go against one of us in "randori". Of course this TKD douchebag said yes. I was chosen by the instructor to match him. Not because I was the best in the class, but because I was just a green belt and the instructor thought I was a better match for him. What a condescending ass this guy was. We bowed, he told me he'd "try not to hurt" me. As soon as we started, I screamed like a fucking banshee and rushed him. He did that TKD tournament pose like a stork on one leg, the other leg and his arms curled back to protect himself. I just picked him up and did the ugliest, meanest, o-goshi ever seen. He hit the mat hard, turtled and I choked him out with a kataha jime. Since I was still not that experienced, I didn't even know he went unconscious. The instructor pulled me off of him and for a moment, I thought I had killed him. After the instructor woke him up, the TKD douchebag asked what happened. I thought he was faking it at the time, since I didn't know then that being choked out causes short-term memory loss. My training partner told him, "You got your ass kicked. That's what happened." The TKD douchebag denied it, got up and left. That's when I heard something I'll never forget: My old Japanese instructor laughing. Laughing, loud, joyous. I thought the man didn't know how to laugh (toughest teacher ever). Judo for life. And fuck you, IJF, I'll grab the legs if I want.
And those rules caused me to retire from judo in 2008. Automatically it banned 3/4 of my offense. Stupid. How in the world are judoka going to know how to defend a double leg?
I have taken tkd and I still say if someone takes me to the ground I am fucked. A lot of people don't know their limits. Taekwondo is really only useful if you know how to grapple and defend against that stuff.
Like, I myself was in a kickboxing class, and it's cool, we all do grappling/mma after kickboxing is done just for practice. So, back then, I'm 13-14, and I have an orange belt in BJJ, and a green/orange belt in judo. Can't remember exactly whether it was green or orange in judo at the time. Anyway, so this guy challenges me to a grappling match, and I don't remember if we started standing or kneeling, but all I remember is that I got him in a rear naked, and then he stands up with me on his back, and then jumps and falls back hoping to stun me so that he can escape. Luckily, due to my judo experience, the fall did not phase me at all. In fact, after that, I put all my strength in the rear naked choke, like, how dare he try to WWE slam me like I'm some sort of fake pussy bitch, right? So, next thing I know, the guy starts having convulsions, and made a sound that was like half way between sneezing and snoring, it was really disturbing and funny at the same time. We all circled around him and a bystander said that I "didn't have to try to kill him." And yeah, that's my story, basically.
So you knew how to apply chokes but not how to gauge when a guy goes limp nor the effects unconsciousness can have...yeh ok. You had a good story going there but the crane pose and the "inexperienced" choke was a lie too far I think you are full of shit.
Love these interviews. I was a brown belt in Tae kwon do, and had to quit because it was so serious, plus wanted to play baseball, couldn't do both. My favorite instructor was Jamaican, and also taught us Aikido. I use time to time, ive worked security, and a few times have to exit people.
When I hear these stories I cant help thinking of That 70's Show. Eric is just about to get into a fight with another kid. At the very last minute Donna leans in and says "By the way Eric, that karate death grip you do when we pretend fight doesn't really work".. "Wait? What? I was really counting on my death grip."
the stories of so called "tough guys" breakin bad had me in tears. Leave it to a Dutchman to not only reveal the imposters but a top notch fighter as well.
swish007 i think he talks about the story eddie tells in jiu jitsu unleashed where he talks about hes karate lessons and how he almost got into a fight with a big strong guy confident he could beat him woth his overhand knife strike
I agree 100%. I was an amateur boxer back in the early 70s and would always have these Kung fu black belts wanted to fight a Boxer. To make a long story short, after a minute or so into the fight and a few punches to the jaw and rib cage they would just quit or get knocked out. Things have changed so much today, I love watching what really does works, M.M.A. I enjoy and watch it over any Boxing match today. Just my 2 %.
Bas is king. Hilarious ass mofo. "They really think I am going to let go of the choke if they poke my eyes. I am going to break their neck, then let go of the choke." - Bas Mufukin Rutten
These fuckers are everywhere; The Aikido cult is pretty bad too.Try talking sense into one of those guys. They're thoroughly convinced it's applicable in real fights between disciplined combatants.
You just said it...between disciplined combatants. True martial artists don't pick fights with each other. Pro fighting is fine. It's a business. The average practitioner is either a hobbyist or is looking to defend themselves from "normal" attacks we aren't training to go against pro fighters.
+Michael C. You might not be training to go against pro fighters, but that's really beside the point. What works against pro fighters is guaranteed to work against the average joe on the street. What doesn't work against pro fighters isn't guaranteed to work against anyone else either. I'm not saying that there is no value in aikido - it'll teach you timing and distance, which are two of the most important aspects of fighting. What the vast majority of aikido schools will never teach you, however, is how to be punched in the face without flinching, or even how to apply your techniques against a non-compliant opponent. Both of these are equally important, because the first time you get into a fight, both of these are going to happen and you need to be ready. If you're in one of the tiny minority of aikido schools where you actually do get hit and where you do practice applying techniques on non-compliant opponents, then great - if you do ever need to use what you've learned, you might actually be able to. Otherwise, you're almost certainly not going to be able to apply what you've learned to a real fight, and thinking that you can is liable to get you seriously hurt, if not killed. If, on the other hand, you spent the same amount of time training in, say, muay thai, then you would be far better prepared for a real fight. You'd be used to being hit, so it wouldn't faze you as much; you'd be used to applying your techniques against people who are trying to stop you from doing so, so you'd be better able to make what you've learned work - and if you needed to do something that would get you disqualified from a tournament (let's say, kick 'em in the balls or poke their eye out) then your kicks and punches would be accurate enough that you could actually pull it off. The thing is (and if there's anything to take away from this, it's this), it's not what you train, but how you train that's important. You have to practice techniques against people who are trying to stop you - and who are actually going to hit you (in a controlled way - just because you're going to get hit, doesn't mean you should be black and blue by the end) if it doesn't work. That applies to every martial art. The reason why aikido and the majority of Chinese martial arts get such a bad rap from the likes of Bullshido isn't that the arts themselves are considered bad; there are a great many practitioners of all sorts of martial arts on their forum. The reason that these arts get such a bad rap is quite simply that the vast majority of schools for these arts don't teach them properly, so the first time one of their students gets into a serious fight, they get put in hospital because they think they can fight but can't.
I agree. There needs to be more contact and resistance in the traditional arts. The profession I work in has taught me what moves work and what don't. Experience is ultimately the best instructor. My repertoire is comprised of maybe 15 techniques
As mentioned above, if your training does not include actual fighting, then it is worthless for an actual fight. I say this because the only way to get good at a thing is to do it - thus the only way to get good at fighting is to fight.

I'd watch that. Up first, Steven Seagull.
+Gary Reilly watch your back... he invented karate...
That's genius dude.
+Alex Mallinson Bas Rutten is the real life Chuck Norris
You are a genius
Bas is the worst thing to happen to a human liver since Four Loko.

bas rutten is the man....if I wanted to learn street fighting and self defense, this is the man. the guy is a fighter and knows what works and what doesn't.
dangity dangity dang!
He actually has an amazing street self defense video
We are due for another Bas podcast.
Still waiting.
peterg there was one in march
Awesome interview Rogan. You and Bas should host the UFC together...good chemistry.
Kenny Tenny bald power
With Dom Cruz doing analysis. Perfect casting combination
Bas has great chemistry with everyone
Awesome
They should fight
7:04 - 7:20 is absolutely amazing. I've rewound/watched 27 times now and it gets better and better.
Quintessential, peak Bas at his absolute finest.
Yooo, me tooo!🤣
Is rewound a word fr fr
I go blank in jiu jitsu all the time, and when I come back, they keep telling me I should have tapped! They don't know my power.

One of my favorite JRE's of all time. Such a cool guy!
I'd watch golf if Bas Rutten was the commentator
'some ninjas come walking in"... hilarious....
what up my ninjas!
Yeah and they obviously have not done their homework to know exactly who Bas is.
Shout out to all my niiii.....my ninjas.
That a fucking SNL skit.
7:18 that was terrifying just watching him PRETEND to break someone's neck lol.
@@spikefunakoshi5667 Not really.
@@spikefunakoshi5667 I don't see how any of that changes the fact that MMA fighters are the most versatile fighters around.
@@spikefunakoshi5667 So what are you saying? Carry a gun, preferably an automatic because you might be facing more than one opponent?
I love Bas Rutten. "If you poke my eye, I'm going to break your neck. You ready to go?" Nice, respectful, and giving them their chance to do what they want to do. Perfect.
If you do not understand the point that Rogan and Rutten are trying to convey here then you might be late for your Aikido Class.
O shit, i am late aswell. I'll just qi teleport there right quick.
Well, nothing wrong with aikido. Just as long you don't expect that to work in a real situation.
Bas scares my liver
slowmopoke I’ve seen him rupture a spleen. Dude is a beast
It's more like, all the common MMA grappling patterns fall apart when eye stabs are allowed
Thai clinch? --> Eye gouge!
Judo clinch? --> Eye gouge!
Pull guard --> Eye gouge!
A significant amount of what gets used in MMA falls apart when there aren't rules against eye gouging. It's not necessarily effective in a "real" fight in the first place.
It's not about winning or losing, I don't think in terms of winning or losing, although I have done MMA fighting, I don't consider myself an MMA fighter, I consider myself a martial artist
The point is, I am someone who can do MMA, who has done informal MMA, who has ~21 years of training across several styles
I'm not as good as Bas Rutten per se, but I know if I were, I would still have (roughly) the same vulnerabilities
I would never want to go to the ground with a common civilian because they might gouge my eyes, better to de-escalate the situation nonviolently.
>> If you're mounted by a BJJ practitioner and you gouge their eye you are going to get choked, an arm broken, or ground and pounded.
I am a BJJ practitioner, I know what they're capable of, and I must disagree
>> If you are in the clinch of a Nak Muay and you try to gouge their eye you will get an elbow to the face and thrown to the ground.
I know every Muay Thai technique in the curriculum and have done extensive (many years of) sparring, sometimes but not always contact sparring, no, I must disagree
The point is that all fighting leads to injury. It's not about winning or losing, its about how even MMA fighters have a reason not to want to fight.
Kevin Phillips bro just watch the whole fucking video. Bas literally explains why an eye gouge wouldn't work if someone has a dominant position.
"I go blank and the bodies start falling" joe, you had me laughing so hard bro! we have All heard that one before from the "street fighter" types
Man I literally heard that said so many times , its usually followed by "I come to and I'm covered in blood..there blood " hahahah
7:20 Rutten's neck break face is hilarious.
11:06
At 11:06 he looked like Stiffler 😄
Thank you for this I have replayed this so many times. 😂😂😂
Nashville Dude lol his head when he turns
I like you for noticing that.
Plus, Bas is a black belt in actual Karate, so I think he could call bullshit pretty quickly. Especially when the guy says his style is some nonsense called "Street Karate".

Godzilla52 a civil conversation on youtube? damn, what year is this?
"You touch my eye I'm going to break your neck ok let's go" hahaha
“You touch my eye I am gonna break your neck......wait, what?” That was a funny face expression of Bas around 7:20
The best defense is situational awareness and avoidence.
The best defense is a concealed firearm. Situational awareness and avoidance are not "defense", they are just being aware of what is happening and running away before it does.

@Zain844 you are taking this way to serious

I ran into Bas in Washington one time. I don't know the guy. But based on a short conversation I had with him for around 15 minutes, he seems like one of the nicest guys around. He's extremely humble and has no problem shooting the sh*t with complete strangers. I have a lot of respect for the man.
You should bring Bas on more often. I always enjoy hearing his stories.
Bas: it’s really hard to poke an eye

I practiced Taekwondo for many many years, and one of the aspects that i loved more about it was that same reverence towards the upper belts. It taught me a lot about respect, restraint and how to behave and act towards other people. My master became like a second dad to me, and to this day i have the most respect for him. I believe that, when used correctly, that martial spirit that Taekwondo and other traditional martial arts strive to accomplish is a great help in the development of children and teens, even if it does seem a bit over the top to modern standards.
You have a pure mentality of respect and understanding of the art
This made me re watch the episode.

I trained with Joe many years ago in Boston and he’s correct the blind devotion that people gave to the TKD instructor was ridiculous when the schools loyalty to them was as deep as wallets.
All MMA
It's a natural thing with people we all look towards a leader. It's just a matter of Who Your Leader is.
7:21 😂😂😂😂😂 oh my god I'm in tears had to replay that bit a few times

I think the cult thing is partly to do with a misinterpretation of Asian (especially Japanese) culture. I trained judo in Japan for a while and it's not remotely cultish. You bow in the same spirit with which you might slap hands: it's just the Japanese way of doing it. You are respectful to old-timers because that's normal behaviour in Japan. But ultimately judo training in Japan is just hard work. That's how you win medals.
But Judo is a legit sport. The stuff they're talking about is not.
@@gordonlove5121 but I don't think all of it is from the sensei's, you have to have your mind open to follow people like that for it to work.
@E. Trano They probably were living in Japan and trained there, you moron.

1.Comic books / fictional books
2.Movies
3.Video Games

You really should discern betwen combat and underlying physiology - just visit physiotherpists, especialy one working with sportsmen. Then talk again about 'pressure points'.

I want Bas Rutten in a Guy Ritchy movie. He would be a great actor
Hey from the future
If there's one thing I've learned through the years from Bas, it's that to stop an attacker, nothing compares to a good, clean, hard liver kick. If you land it properly, your opponent will cease to be a badass in about 2 seconds and fall to the ground in a ball. My case in point, Alistair Overeem vs Brock Lesnar. Folded like an accordion, and that was Brock Goddamn Lesnar.
All true statements. also Mosixman Your friend sounds like a real dickbag.
Doesn't Brock always fold when hit?
Axe Battler uh.....no. did you not see the championship fight with shane carwin?
I think kicking to the nut is the way to go for self defence.
Could someone tell me what Bas grappling style is? I know he speaks highly of BJJ but I was under the impression that he practice Catch Wrestling.
Bellator needs Bas Rutten!
Leroi LaPue he would also make a good comedian

Bas has to be one of my favorite people in the world, lol.....no b.s., no bravado......he just tells it like it is...and can back it up.
Bas Ruten is the shit. My favorite JRE podcast.
The reason kung fu and similar martial arts aren't successful is these days people aren't willing to put in the work carrying water up stairs on a mountain and learning to fight blindfolded.
mrrusss no
mrrusss Well played.
+mrrusss More because they've been proven ineffective in reality
+mrrusss Guys joking, it's fucking funny
Hes 100 % my favorite person ever on the podcast!! Lol
I LOVE Bas's direct way of speaking. Having him and Joe is gold. Every. Fucking. Time.
Bas is a one of a kind tough guy lol i could listen to him for days.
The delusion that you find on these comments sections are absolutely hilarious. Someone wrote that Ufc guys aren't trained killers. If a UFC guy wanted to kill someone they could do it without breaking a sweat.
It doesn't even require a trained person, most people could kill another quite easily
+M4ri4n4sG4t3k33p3r^*^333 my point was that because these guys fight professionally under certain rules some people say they wouldn't be able to translate that style to the Streets. it's a dumb thing to say and makes no sense at all
***** wow, i don't think you understand how easily a human can be killed.
mike howarth yh i get you, i'm just saying that if a normal person could kill another with their hands in a fight then imagine what a trained fighter could do.

Bas is a great stroy teller, you could listen to him talk about shit all day
Some TKD douchebag came to our Judo class.
That's what happened."
The TKD douchebag denied it, got up and left.
You're my favorite kind of judoka! I need more of your stories man, I'm a green belt myself ATM.
Bring back Bas!!!

Watch Joe Rogan Experience 335, the last 15 minutes. This part is from that episode with Bas Rutten.
Never try to trade blows with a boxer, atleast kick em and keep him at a distance, first thing I learned.
In short fights usually its the boxer that wins because lets face it hands are faster that feet, by the way I do MMA and do think its a better sport.
Depends on whose boxing. Most MMA fights are boring.

I did Aikido for years and unfortunately it really doesn't work that well, maybe it was me, but I tried to use and got fucked up. YMMV
As mentioned above, if your training does not include actual fighting, then it is worthless for an actual fight. I say this because the only way to get good at a thing is to do it - thus the only way to get good at fighting is to fight.
"Kick me in the pills then I'll be real pissed" great line, could not stop laughing
