followup extract: 1. frogs that resonated like castanets: the phrase incorporates simile to convey the omnipresent background noise. This shows how the small and innocuous sound of the frogs is perceived to be alarming to the writer in a threatening way. 2. pneumatic buzzing of mosquitoes: the writer's use of imagery is palpable in writing as the buzzing of mosquitoes poses a sense of of danger. This shows how the writer feels foreign to the place and feels anxiety running down his spine. 3. the dark expanse of open water: the writer's use of imagery conveys a sense of caution. This emphasizes how the writer is wary of the dangers of submerging himself into the open water as he is able to briefly scan the threat associated with it.
I am not really in the habit of reading novels and books but I surely love reading articles, newspapers, essays etc... so if I read newspapers daily and quite often read articles, is that good enough to improve my vocabulary ?
