I personally thought the Bruce Wayne persona depicted in this specific film was timeline based. That at this point in his life, being the billionaire ladies boy that we know and love was merely hung up in his cupboard for the time being. It showed how dedicated he can be when duty calls. I suppose without the origin and backstory the film was lacking it’s hard to know who he was or what drives his emotions more regularly. This review was elite though, I agree with many of your points. I really enjoyed its production value, keep it up DEEPOY 👌🏽
Wouldn't he be more dedicated if he were to play the playboy character? It's clear Bruce doesn't enjoy doing it but does it to gain intel, etc, as Paul Dini writes so elegantly about in Batman: War on Crime, also Kevin Conroy at 13:01 sums it really well. I feel it's especially apparent in the context of this film, how if he took the responsibility of being Bruce Wayne seriously, he would've realised that the Wayne Renewal money was being siphoned away, which is pretty much the cause of everything down to the Riddler's origin. I'm not saying a flawed character is bad, but I just don't see it as being more dedicated, I see it as less dedicated If the story were suggesting this Bruce had given up then it would make more sense to enter this arc of neglect. This happens in Rises actually where a retired Bruce didn't even know funding toward an orphanage stopped and as a result it had to shut down due to his neglect. Kids started hanging around sewers and getting recruited into Bane's militia. But I get where you're coming from and can see that perspective, and yes you're right, since we didn't see Bruce's origins our nuanced understanding of this particular Bruce adaption is still limited, guess we'll have to see!! TY for the detailed comment and TY for watching 🙏
This video is really good and addressed some of the things i noticed in the movie but couldn't explain. I dont agree with everything, but i do think this video acknowledges things many people havent. I do think if they keep making movies of this quality using batman and expand upon the character it can make this movie more complete.
Thank you! Also, I couldn't have said it any better! Further instalments will definitely make this film even better than it already is in retrospect. I could imagine watching a completed trilogy in one hit could be mesmerising, I hope! I'm really keen to truly plunge into these characters 👌
Oh my GOODNESS. You touched on so many feelings I had during the movie, only some of which I had put into words (i.e, I love my stealthy Batman). The final act always felt off for me, and it definitely had to do with the Riddler. Felt like a forced action set piece ending. The hope thing didn’t feel quite right either and I think you captured why. And all that being said, like you, I actually really like the movie. Watched it again recently and couldn’t get enough of the world Reeves and co. built. Great analysis. Instant sub. Looking forward to more, man.
I honestly think that if the crowd rescued batman from the water and held him up ala spiderman, this entire movie would have been completely changed for the better. Especially if he asked why they risked themselves to save a guy in a mask and the kid at the end said "We saw what you did. You gave us hope." Or something like that.
Oh that's very interesting! I didn't even think to that degree but that's an interesting thought 🤔 Maybe something of similar fashion at the end of the trilogy or something, I'm getting ahead of myself haha
I love the PNG-version of you. It makes the video really fun. Ive been tempted to do this for such a long time with my educational stuff. Batman was a really fantastic movie.
First of all, just wanted to say I love the video, some really solid points, and though I love the film, I would find myself agreeing with a lot of them. The only thing I wanted to bring up is the "I am the shadows" line you spoke about early on. For me, I felt like this was Batman's ego, believing himself to be an unstoppable force of nature, when really he's just a man. And because he's literally writing this in his journal, it's almost like he's trying to convince himself of it, which kinda ties back into his character arc, him trying to make a difference in gotham but going about it in the complete wrong way. Just a thought tho :)
I really appreciate The Batman fans watching my video 🙏 and been keen to have some discussions on it! Yeah I see what you're saying! Very interesting, he was maybe perceiving himself as a bigger entity than what he was, I could have been correlating the shadows too directly/literally to the Batman property instead of seeing what it's utility meant to this specific Batman's story arc. I'm still pretty shaky on its expression, but I like the thought! Thanks for watching 🙏
Yes bro you’re spot on with your analysis. This movies bread is so good and addictive but the meat and cheese leaves a lot to be desired hopefully Matt Reeves cut the run time and adds some much needed depth to all the characters.
I think it's a good film but I think the Burton and Nolan Batman films are better. The movie has a great look and feel with some great detective Batman moments, but the aesthetic of Burton is still superior and it lacks the depth and interesting themes of TDK trilogy, while still also relying heavily on the TDK gritty style instead of reinventing Batman like Nolan did.
Oh man the Burton aesthetic is something else!!! 2 steps forward for the IP same with what Nolan did as you said reinventing it, yeah I guess it feels like The Batman was a half step forward comparatively, less revolutionary ig, but yeah as you said good film 🙏 we can better determine after the series is complete!
There were multiple moments in the theater where I was ahead of Batman. Batman, there's an apartment complex across the street from the Iceberg Lounge where the various pictures of corrupt officials were taken. Why aren't you investigating that? It's because it's the year 2 Batman. Batman, why didn't you spellchecker your Spanish before running with it? It's because it's the year 2 Batman. Batman, why didn't you take the time to investigate this UNIQUE MURDER WEAPON IN THE CARPET TUCKER? It's because it's year 2 Batman, and he was worried about his identity being exposed, which is funny because he said earlier that he didn't care what happened to him. Dude said that he was the shadows just to be knocking on the front door. That totally took me out of this film.
Haha yes the carpet tucker! Which he only looked further into after Officer Martinez mentions something about it, he never seems to solve things himself. The writers definitely have wiggle room as far as making The Batman smarter in sequels
I highly appreciate this point of view and it enlightened me to some honest criticism of the movie, however I believe one big thing that you might not have taken in account is that this is a young Batman that is going to and is making mistakes. He missed the landing on the bus or passing in between the bus and the train bridge because he doesn’t have experience, he messed up on a clue because he didn’t think he need to know Spanish yet (or other languages and history), he didn’t use Gordan wisely because he never has need a cop, he leisurely fell in love with cat women and lost control of emotions, he need that later on to have better control of himself self. He’s a ruthless fighter because he hadn’t learned how to be efficient in fights with his tools and he basically lost in the end so he can learn and grow for the future.
Honestly you aren't missing much. Dumb as hell couldn’t even investigate a UNIQUE MURDER WEAPON. So much for being the World’s greatest detective. When I was figuring out items and things before him you know it’s a problem. 2. Fights like a clunky brawler instead of the ninja warrior he IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Watch Ip man, live action Himura Kenshin, Raizo/Ozunu/ Ninja from beginning from Ninja Assassin 2009, and somewhat Sunny/Quinn/Widow from into the Badlands AMC. All characters that only the best of the best are capable of causing actual issues for them one on one. Look to the east for film action inspiration because the western style is CLEARLY FAILING to showcase a legendary Batman warrior. 3. Says he is the shadows just to use the front door allowing everyone to see he’s just a man. Real Batman like Keaton or Bale would’ve already been inside questioning Penguin. 4. In the arena he blows up the glass ceiling sending huge chunks of glass shards down upon the civilians. 5. The Penguin car chase he potentially killed over a dozen people. 6. Everyone uses the excuse that it’s only year 2 and that shouldn’t be the case. 7. Letting all those people see him ruins the mystique of batman. He’s supposed to come across as a wraith to punish evil protector of the weak. He just looks like a man in a silly costume. 8. Batman should be like Benedict Cumberbatch Holmes from 2010 BBC TV Sherlock for his deductions. It’s set in modern times and he’s THE legendary detective. 9. The GROUNDED IN REALITY take has now stagnated Batman as a character in live action. It’s like writers/directors run to see who can do the next grounded Batman take. He lives in a world where a 10ft zombie walking around in Gotham sewers get over it. When you show Sherlock Holmes he’s always at his best not growing into it. That’s should be the case with Batman’s intelligence/deductive reasoning skills/scientific understanding and combat/espionage. Superman once said that Batman was the MOST DANGEROUS MAN ON THE PLANET because of his legendary immense intellect, and combat skills and knowledge. Let’s show it for once. I’m more fearful of the main character from Netflix’s Korean The Revenger when he was tied up in a straight jacket. That shouldn’t be the case.
Yeah, at least on youtube, this movie has really been overrated, overrated to the point of people saying its better than the dark knight, or batman begins. Which is just not true at all obviously. I would even say that The Dark Knight Rises is better than The Batman.
Yeah you’re right youtube contributes a lot with overrating it hey, the title of this video is partially meant as a parody of their titles too haha! In saying that, I enjoy watching every single positive analysis of The Batman film on yt, there’s a lot to dissect/love about it 👌
You don't understand that The Batman is comic book accurate as Batman is the greatest detective and Bruce Wayne is supposed to be a broken man filled with tragedy.
Ok, I really don't like this movie, this if you remove the title from it is a bad attempt of a Noir movie where the MC gets everything handed to him, I think shiny vampire guy acting was subpar, and I think it wasted all the limitless potential a Batman story brings to the table, and I fucking love Batman. That being said, I will still comment, and give you the watch-time, so YT likes it more
The Batman is a bloated, inconsistent, self-important, overlong slog that makes some really dumb decisions. It doesn't do a single thing previous Batman movies didn't do better. I thought it was "okay" the first time I saw it, but the more I think about it, the more I dislike the movie. Too much Catwoman and not nearly enough Alfred or Penguin. (Colin Farrell's brief performance was the best thing about the movie.) Paul Dano's performance as Riddler was misfired and cringeworthy.
I personally thought the Bruce Wayne persona depicted in this specific film was timeline based. @@Deepoy You got it, looking forward to more!
Yeah, he's not as stealthy as he tries to say he is; and the film would be a fair bit shorter if any of the bad guys aimed where there wasn't armor.
hahaha truue
That's been true of Batman forever. He didn't even have armor at first 😂
The movie felt like it was just in love with its visuals more than its story and characters
I can understand why they fell in love with the visuals because it was mesmerising but yeah i’d they got distracted a smidge ay!
