  • Buntzen Lake is located near the village of Anmore, northwest of Port Moody. The late is managed by BC Hydro and features several hiking trails, including a 10km loop around the lake. Points of interest are the North Beach, which is much quieter than the South Beach, the Suspension Bridge, and the Floating Bridge.
This video was recorded in January 2021 and hiking is possible most times of the year around the lake. The winter months and early spring are a great time to hike this loop as the trail is less crowded and there are many small streams that are flowing with water.

Great! Just note that you'll need a free parking reservation from BC Hydro before you go. The parking reservation requirement is in place this year from May 16 - September 4, 2023. Buntzen Lake is in the tri-cities but there's tonnes of great hikes in the Fraser Valley.

"The lake was the main setting of the fourth X-Files episode (S01E04) , The Conduit. However, the episode was filmed in British Columbia, with Buntzen Lake being used as Lake Okobogee."

Surprised how many people there seemed to be on the trail, was this shot on a weekend? This trail has been on my bucket list for awhile.

Yes, this was hiked on a Saturday in January and we started around 10:30am. It felt like a lot of people started around then. I think if we had been an hour earlier, it would have been quieter. The trail is 1-way in a counter-clockwise direction at the moment due to COVID-19 and allowing for physical distancing. That help spread people out a bit.

We only including the hiking trail in the video, which does not allow for bikes. You can bike along the Power House Road, which begins near the parking lot and is just east of the hiking trail. The Power House Road will take you all the way to the North Beach and even beyond.

There’s always the possibility of bears in the area, so you should be prepared.
