This monolithic, moss covered structure is a unique piece of BC's history of hydro power generation, and it's called Buntzen Powerhouse No2. In this video you'll see why it has been chosen as a filming location for Hollywood productions, and the interesting story behind its eerie ramparts.
Thanks for watching! Video and editing by Luke Gibson.

As a BC resident I just want to say well done and thank you for bringing all these little nuggets of history to our attention. I love history so it is awesome that you take the time and care to show us what’s in our own backyards.
I'm so old I remember fishing for pinks in front of the powerhouse while it was still in operation. rock cod were plentiful there back then.
Right on! I’ll have to get out there and check it out. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out, Michael!
I can’t believe you paddled there in a blow up kayak! That’s commitment!
East Vancouver, born & raised.
I’m glad I bought pre-sale and still live in Vancouver 40 plus years.
Absolutely stunning Luke, really enjoy the abandoned explores, another fine job on the video work !!!
Moving to BC this Friday, your videos places are mine bucket list! Thank you for incredible videos! Can’t wait to get started.
Hey Luke I came across your channel a few months back and enjoyed it! I am from BC as well and helped out Dustin Porter from my home town in Williams Lake. I will give you ONE major tip and that is letting your viewers know you care by giving every comment a heart (for good ones only. LOL!) And comment on the ones you want to as you do now. I watch RUclips videos instead of tv and I love abandoned places and you have a lot of other adventures that people around the world would love to see.
Thanks for the tip, I'm glad to hear it and appreciate you watching my videos!
I gave you a shout out for your channel to other ones. So you should get a lot more views and comments.
Really cool building.
It should be restored.
I went to summer camp directly across the Indian arm from the power house and I always wondered what this place was as a kid. I thought it was so cool and I always wanted to check it out but never did.
Now I have to watch everything that was filmed there.
Such a professional and personal clip you did...again. I really appreciate the history you revealed out of this excursion of yours. I have been there, but didn't know much of the history (now I know!) and am able to appreciate it even more. Did you manage to venture just a little ways north to Granite Falls? I did an overnight camp there once. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks again Luke
Thanks Mel! No, I didn't have enough time to paddle further, although I know Indian Arm has beautiful waterfalls to visit
Awesome video Luke, beautiful building. Thanks for sharing another amazing piece of BC history.
I was kayaking out of Deep Cove last month and wondered about that building. Perfect timing! Great vid.
It is a beauty spot to paddle!
@@lifeofluke No shit, that's where I'm kayaking every summer! Love to see these!
I really enjoy your videos of all the hikes you do. I use to enjoy hiking & am planning on getting back to it. I see your faithful companion dog Nina is beside you enjoying the trip to 💜
I hope you do! Thanks Nyla.
Thanks for the tour!
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
This was awesome Luke! I paddled by many times and always wanted to stop and check it out but never did. It almost feels like I have now. The video was perfect, I'm not sure what the pinned comment is about. I like seeing you in the videos and the music was well chosen.
Thanks for sharing. There are two hydroelectric stations in BC that are quite a bit older and still in 24/7 operation. The oldest is the Silversmith Generating Station at Sandon BC (127 years) and the City of Nelson Hydroelectric Plant (112 years).
WOW , This was great to view. I lived in BC from 1975 to 2005 and many times in this area for crabbing and fishing. Enjoyed seeing this building first time and always returned when I was in this area to visit and imagine it as a working and living place. Deep Cove is Excellent. Tank you for your time doing this history lesson ..
God this is stunning, you are a talent. Keep at it buddy. 🇨🇦
Awesome footage.
Deep cove is also a cute little community.
Electrifying.currently amaze .Grate vid
Tanks for sharing the beautiful pictures
I grew up on the Indian Arm. That power house has such significant history for Vancouver and surrounding area. Incredible childhood memories. Such a beautiful area to be, and grow up around. Those incredible memories will never be forgotten "Thanks ma and pops" Miss both of you, RIP!
Used to live in N Van and Deep Cove was a favourite place! Thanks for posting.
Amazing video and as always Luke! BC is full of wonderful places
Killer work man!
Thanks guys!
Beautiful Building.
I see 5 dislikes, why would anyone dislike Luke’s videos???
Well this one has irritating music the adds nothing to the video and only serves as a distraction
@@misterflibble6601I can see you've never ridden in an elevator.. this is far from irritating. I personally think the music adds to the mystery of it 👍
Used to pass this building on the way up Indian Arm all the time and always wanted to get out and explore it. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Maryanne!
Luke, thanks for taking us along on this trip. This is the first of your videos I've seen and it certainly won't be the last!
stunning building - wow. great video Luke. Shocked that no one purchased it and converted it a residence.
Thanks Denys. BC Hydro still owns it.
Another awesome one. Have been paddling past this place and was always intrigued.
I remember this place being in an episode of "Danger Bay."
You're right, I left that out
Now I feel old
It is a rather beautifully designed building.
Thanks for making these great videos Luke. Nice to see BC locals vlogging stuff/giving ideas for places to check out/showcasing the area
Thanks for checking it out!
Saw this beautiful piece of history tonight.
Always love your abandoned vids. I am a BC boy myself, and have certainly drawn some inspiration for a few little weekenders from your videos. Keep up the good work!
What a cool building to re purposes to a hotel, build a deck that’s end in the water. So manny details and history. Awesome.
so nice to see purple starfish again :3 the largest jellyfish i ever saw was in indian arm--we were on our way to buntzen (the cold as slush lake) when we noticed people on a dock staring into the water...we checke it out and just below the surface was a moon jelly with a bell that mustve been 8 feet across...
Wow, cool to see that!
These videos are so badass. I knew about a fair amount of these spots but the additional education you provide is crazy cool. Favorite video is for sure the Pitt Lake Hot Springs trip just because it's been on my bucket list for years (missing the arm strength & balls to paddle the whole Pitt + a mountain bike...for now). Cheers to you for all the great content buddy
Much appreciated, Jason!
Amazing! Keep up the great content!
Thanks Mikey!
I would renovate and live in it....what a cool structure
Every cool thanks for sharing

Haha awesome, I was chatting to you while you were shooting this film! Not sure if you remember but myself and a friend paddled up to the powerhouse and we were chatting for 20 mins or so. You told me the name of your channel but I completely forgot it, and just discovered it while looking for resources about the Pitt river hot springs hike.. hopefully will be doing the canoe/bike trip myself this weekend!
Stunning footage! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great drone shots. Stopped by that powerhouse last week on my way up to Berg's Landing, really cool building, The architect was Francis Rattenbury who also designed the British Columbia Parliament Buildings and the Empress Hotel in Victoria. He was actually murdered in 1935.
Captivating Neo Classical architecture !,
Thank You
Nicely done Luke! Amazing video. I wanted to go explore this place. I am waiting for my 20 ft Touring canoe in July so I can go explore Indian Arm and this beauty with rich BC heritage!
I look forward to your well-produced films.
Interesting history and amazing paddle!
Great video. Keep exploring, Luke!
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed this, very much, and found it quite informative. Really liked the drone footage...well done!

I grew up right by Buntzen. Great video. Such a magical place.
Beautiful Luke.!
No it was called beautiful lake
Awesome Drone footage and B Roll, loved seeing the water pipeline. Would be cool to see if the equipment is still in the building.
Now that would be a cool Dwelling
Love your exploration Luke very inspiring! Regards from The Philippines!
Thanks!
Just found your channel, great content! love seeing what’s around my neighbourhood to explore.
Excellent video!! As a retired electrician, I enjoyed the music and your commentary Luke. Keep it up.
Super cool, great episode Luke
👌👌👌 Luke. Keep it up. It was very interesting!
I LOVE our local history! Great great video
Thanks, glad we're on the same page!
Awesome video man. Thanks for the upload
Thank you for posting. I know you are from BC, I appreciate your content. If you ever want to do a story on Ripple Rock an underwater mountain located in the Seymour Narrows. The hazardous rock made the government remove the top of the mountain in a controlled explosion on 5 April 1958.
My Grandfather worked for Dupont at a top level at the time and suppled the much needed Nitramex and Nitramon Explosives to blast the rock. Biggest blast ever.
thanks for the suggestion, I have heard of that story before. Another part of BC's interesting history!
Awesome video Luke, thank you! It would be cool if BC hydro or Bc government restore this unique architectural/historical/engineering gem and include it in BC historical sites.
Thanks Jakub, ya I hope that happens in the future
Great vids keep them coming!!
Wildly impressive! Keep on keepin' on. 🎉

Great history man...thank you for your beautiful enchanting informative channel ...
Cheers, thanks!
DEMOS NWK ! great location, and great presentation
Nice, that is an awesome site I have never heard of before.
We used to hike through from the end of the lake and used to metal detect, we found lots of coins, bottles and a few insulators. Would like to go again but I know the hydro guys blocked it off up top.
Definitely worth the trip. 👌🏼
Great video.
This video needed to be made.
I love this channel
Thanks Puneet!
I thought IT was about to pop out at any second 😂Cool Clips!
I live in BC as well.Left Montreal, Quebec for good to explore and live in the west and to get the chance to do what you do. You are truly living your best life! An inspiration! The architect for Buntzen Power II was longtime BCER employee Robert Lyon.
💓💓💓 beautifu.!!!! thank you for sharing 💓
looks like an amazing adventure, and had it with mans best friend on top of it, you lucky bastard haha keep up the good vids and the teachings
I hiked to it last year. The trail approaches the powerhouse from the back. I was so disappointed, everything was gated up, so I couldnt make my way to the front to actually look at the pretty side of the structure :( Great video, thank you!
