this makes me want to cry...then smile...been one of my favorite songs since 2005. lot has happened in five years. this songs makes me think that we're all fucked and same time saved. individually and together.
This is truly amazing. This song is the reason I have become obsessed with NIN. I First got With Teeth and liked almost all of it but when I heard this song I was truly mezmerized & in awe of Trent's incredible lyrics. This is the only song in history which can make someone depressed when they're happy but happy when ur depressed. One of the best bands of the past 20 years without a doubt. Gonna see em live on May 20 with Janes Addiction 1st concert ever. Cant b more excited!
@MrAlexrawwwr Man I feel so bad about that. Well u can only hope and pray that Trent will decide to tour again sometime in the future. He said he might tour with How To Destroy Angels next year so there is sum hope. If he'll tour 4 HTDA I'm sure he'll want 2 c his fans again with NIN. : )
The funny thing about this song is... it seems so deep, so meaningful, right? But why? Because it asks (at least on my interpretation) if you're really sure that there IS any meaning. So a song that deconstructs "meaning" is meaningful in the sense that it challenges meaning itself, haha.
I admire Trent for how he progressed rock and implemented electronic elements in a style that is truly unique, however when I see bands showing imagery of Bush and the crowd getting all riled up, it all seems so generic, yes i want the world to be perfect and good for everyone, no poverty no wars, etc, its just not that simple. When clinton invaded yugoslavia, bands weren't showing him no the screen. I feel that politics and music shouldn't be so intertwined but music should be more personal
Trent is a genius that is for sure...the same lyrics presented by any other artist just wouldn't have the "Trent factor"...This song makes me feel something profound inside even if its on replay and just plays over and over, it never dulls, it never loses its effect...every single time I am blown away...It definitely makes me reflect on myself in a much deeper way than anything else..."And if you look at your reflection Is it all you want it to be?"
I wish people would wake up ... realise their potential and make sure they use it, instead of wasting away being content with less thats what this song is about, to me.
This song never fails to give me goosebumps. I remember when I saw this song live, it felt like I held my breath through the whole performance. Just incredible.
This song is simply incredible. The song has me thinking about so much. Trent Reznor has a way with music, he is an incredible influence to me. I will never love another persons music as much as I love his
I get that shiver, and coldness that only comes from knowing something so tragic is about to happen when listening to this. This makes a death, a lost love, a suicide seem real in itself. It's a masterpiece.
This even gives me the shivers... this is so beautiful.. And I agree, it is true that not ONLY ONE person can change the world... BUT and this is a GIANT BUT (hehe)! If more people try, all those people can become one.. and there you have then.. then you already changed the world.. instead of saying he or she is white, yellow, black, brown fuckin purple I dont care... We're all frickin' human. And thats the end of it.
Right On! Not many of those type of musicians around anymore. Trent is one of those enigmatic figures like Jim Morrisson, but also has the power and sincerity that is beyond music, much like John Lennon or Bob Marley. They stand 4 something even greater than music.
There is nothing cheesy about it, or at least, that doesn't have to matter. I've had a song completely change things, I could never explain why, because there is no logic there - nor does there need to be. Being moved by a song is one of the things I live for. Most of the time I am completely logic-based and calculated. But when that inexplicable feeling of creativity strikes, I embrace it 100% - and I would expect any other human to do the same.
Might sound strange but I prefer this song to Hurt. It breaks my heart more, it seems more universal and ambiguous. Hurt is still fantastic though but the ending is obviously more (intentionally) nasty. This is sheer bliss.
no , but one person can create something that will create a chain of positive influence, something to make other people think and so it goes and grows ...
@takuukuitti Very true! Feel almost the same way. I love this song cuz everybody has a different interpretation of what it means. And it's been one 1 of my favorite songs of the past 4-5 years 2. And nothing like having the feeling of universal hopelessness and bliss @ the same time. What other band or songwriter can do these things and evoke these thoughts and emotions? I'm actually planning to get a tattoo of this song!
That's an interesting point. I'm no fan of Bush but, in spite of the damage he has done to this country, I see him as more of a person to be pitied...a small-minded, easily controllable, inarticulate frat boy that won a popularity contest. What bothers me most is the fact that people tend to hate him because it's popular to do so, without being able to give specific examples of his "crimes". It seems to me that this is the same kind of blind obedience and conformity...just on the opposite side.
the funniest aspect of your comments is the fact that you don't truly know what poverty is sitting at your computer commenting on music vids..what's better is trent being a millionaire and not minding it one bit, hes a great talent, my hat goes off to him, but this notion of new world order is quite hilarious. I've lived thru communism in russia and know what this truly entails, i am afraid you dont and shudn't take things for granted
Its awesome when you think about it how far reaching is NiN's appeal. Considering it isn't exactly mainstream, yet remains so relavant. I hope you do manage to get your visa xakestar. :D I'm from Singapore myself and its one of my goals to see Trent live someday too. When i get out of school and earn some money of course.
Well to be honest I heard this song, while days before having the exact thoughts "if the whole world is fake and I'm just imagining it..." The fact of the matter is, nothing will change whether it's real or not. You could just be imagining this post, I could be imagining you, Or I could fuck with your mind some more, but I'm nicer than that.
I also find it a bit ironic (and wonder if this was partly his intention) that these images are being PROJECTED and at the same time he asks whether everything you believe in is just in your head -- i.e., your psychological projection(s) onto the real, possibly meaningless world..
@commierebel I totally agree with you, this song made me like NiN as well. Which was back when With Teeth just got released, since then I haven't stopped listening to NiN, definatily one of my favourite bands.
@commierebel It's a marvelous song on the record, but live.. It goes over and beyond my sanity, it makes me crazy. If God was a musician (and EXISTED in the first place), this would be his masterpiece!!!
Trent Reznor seeks to see the point in life. He is a textbook existentialist and this song is pretty self-evident of that. You can call him that or just an angst-filled philosopher.
@kcms15panther I dont think it´s just your depression. There is something in that song and in the people who feel and think like you... The same happens with me! -Paul.
Trent seems to have the world as we know it (or don't know it) in a nutshell somewhere locked away in his house so only he can view it and he just shared that with us all.
Trent's performances live just takes his recorded music to new heights.
this makes me want to cry...then smile...been one of my favorite songs since 2005. lot has happened in five years. this songs makes me think that we're all fucked and same time saved. individually and together.
Beautiful song. Hope too see it live someday.
This song gives meaning to life.
Awesome Song

Wow, wow wow that's unspeakably beautiful. Thanks to elamalvado26 for the amazing quality of this one :-)
yeah, he is an army of one

Cool, they all flipped off George W. Bush.
I kinda miss the piano part from the studio recording...

this is the best version of the song, if nobody recorded this live itd be a shame.
The greatest song ever written. Trent truly is good at what he does, his music is fucking incredible. I wish I get to see him play live sometime

Greatest lyrics of any song ever. Extraordinary song on an extraordinary album.
It's almost sad watching this video, that i'll never watch anything better. ever.
Right On! Not many of those type of musicians around anymore. Trent is one of those enigmatic figures like Jim Morrisson, but also has the power and sincerity that is beyond music, much like John Lennon or Bob Marley. They stand 4 something even greater than music.
This man is fantastic! The song sounds live better than on the CD!
great song with a strong message
superchunk, it makes me cry too. I was listening to it all day yesterday
i listen to this song when i go for a long walk at night by myself, just clearing my head.
Congrats on falling in love with an incredible musician. Welcome to the family
wow this is powerful. the more I watch beside you in time the more I love it.

I love this song, sad but beautiful

it would be against human right,....we all have the right o express ourselves, you have the right to ignore them if you want.
you're all behaving like the mass he describes.. 'And if you look at your reflection, is that all you want to be?'..
Porque demonios la tocan con guitarra y no con los teclados? es mucho mas bonita...
I think if anybody has the power to change things in this world with just music, it's Trent Reznor.
Oh man, I felt so happy that the crowd fucking screamed at GWBush and were all giving him the finger.
I'd like to know who edits their live projections. The was extremely moving seeing it live.
Funny people cheer to a depressing song and disturbing images.
People who claim not to be touched by this song didn't listen or didn't understand.
blablabla as stoner I can tell that there are many songs to trip on like this one..
WOW....that was fucking amazing
If I could make babies with one man.
It would be Trent.
Seems like the audience doesn't like G.W. Bush....
@commierebel there is nothing greater than music^^
@sta0005 He is. Trent Reznor has a way with music.
ook bij mij nog steeds krijg ik tranen ook NU !!!!
@kcms15panther i know exactly what you mean...
@Glendale1901 Yup XACTLY! EVERY FUCKING TIME!
Trent Reznor reminds me of Tender Branson
