  • “Drive Like Your Family Lives Here” tells the stories of five families who have been devastated by traffic tragedy. This Vision Zero-inspired film, presented by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), NYC Department of Transportation (DOT), the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and traffic safety advocates Families for Safe Streets and Transportation Alternatives will, among other uses, be integrated into driver training programs for prospective taxi drivers. While taxi driver training was the film’s initial purpose, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) have both already committed to using it in their driving training programs, and other uses are in development. We encourage you to take this film’s message to heart and drive like your family lives here.

an emotional appeal is fine, but i wish it wasn't necessary. i wish there was some stricter liability where operators of multi-ton machinery were liable criminally and civilly for what damage they caused and not able to merely brush it off as an "accident".

It’s more safe to jaywalk then walk on crosswalk. Crosswalk you can become oblivious while when you jaywalk you look both ways and make sure there is no car.

This is really sad but i have a tip for pedestrians, never assume that a the driver that is trying to cross the intersection has you in their eye site, especially in a busy city like New York. I see parents let their kids cross a busy street riding a scooter without caution. I agree taxi's and other vehicles drive wreck less in Manhattan, but i've also witness pedestrians crossing the street without regard even when emergency vehicles are trying to battle traffic to respond to a serious matter. You have no idea what is going on in the cab while the driver is driving. The driver could be having a medical emergency and the safety for pedestrians is not a concern for Him/Her at the moment. So please people drive safe and more importantly walk/ride safe also.

Well said, here in downtown Brooklyn on Jay street, people walk out into moving traffic without a care. Another man crossed in front of the bus (it wasn't moving though) and nearly gets hit by a small car. One old woman was ran over by a bus about nearly 20 years ago, it was so bad that I still have nightmares. These drivers think they are in NASCAR. Vision zero should go both ways.

give full details of the accidents. some people cross without precaution even if you have the walk signal make sure you can see the drivers face. some people cross looking straight ahead and dont even bother to look if cars are heading towards them. emotional but you need to give full details probably one of these pedestrian didnt pay attention and crossed blinded
