The New Curvature Pen Tool in Photoshop CC | Adobe Photoshop
• The New Curvature Pen ...
OMG! Finally. I am much comfortable using this method instead of old.
This draws a curved SHAPE, not line. I just want to define a thickness, then draw a singular perfect curved line. All tutorials show this method. I don't want a "filled shape" simply a singular curved line. Any suggestions?
It is impressive improvement! I guess the New Pen Tool better than old, because is more intuitive ! :)
Finally the Photoshop gods have spoken and made the frustrating Pen made EASY!
after almost 2 decades of Pen Tool proficiency, I don't think I'll ever need this. But it's a good improvement, I guess!
exactly my reaction when I saw this update
Non-sensical. If you don't see how this is a giant improvement over the old method both in terms of speed and efficiency, you're falling victim to being a creature of habit. Those of us who value efficiency welcome this change.
you just save my design lifeee
Thank You thank you thank you! - oh, did I day thank you? You've made my work so much easier! Thank You!
Thanks girl :), making my projects easier
wow photoshop finally has splines - in 3d studio max since 20 years, next to b-splines and corner shapes ... and nurbs
So you are comparing two completly different programms, the tools they are offering, and the goal they want to achieve? Genius.
not really. goal from both is to create a 2D shape for further use. sometimes for even the same usage. and now comes the isane part. when you really need a complex shape for a layout or whatever, most of the times it is much much faster to create this in 3dsmax, export this shape as whatever and import this into illustrator or photoshop for futher use.
the problem are the missing tools for shape modification. wanna break a shape point to a round corner or chamfered corner - impossible without pligins in illustrator.
do a outline from a shape with a given offset? impossible. ... and so on
No the thing is I would love if adobe will take a look at the 3dsmax spline tools and copy them. they will get illistrator on steroids
Bernhard Rose don't be an idiot dude
Martin Peterdamm I was referring to the program itself. In PS I manipulate pixels, retouche photos. In max I create something from scratch. I can use ps to refine the product of max, but not the other way around. But maybe I'm just picky. What I'm not really on pace with is that that people often claim that ps is lacking certain features or quite behind in development of tools. But in my opinion completely overlooking that those tools should not necessarily be part of ps at all. Again, I use this program to retouch pixels. Pen tool is nice to create a selection, that's it. If you want vectors just use illustrator. It's this notion that folks complaining that ps is not the black magic box that solves all your problems instead of switching to a more appropriate application. Suddenly they want the all in one package, with UI capabilities, vectors and even 3D objects and rendering. I used ps over a decade now regularly. Maybe it's just me being to old school. Sorry for rambling
I have been using PhotoShop for photography since version 3 when they first added layers . .1994 ! They kept adding features that I thought I would ever need. I am glad I don't have to learn Illustrator when they added vectors in version 6 and real fonts in version 7, camera raw in version CS . . . bloat? Nope, we evolve.
I am so glad that I can go back to my trusty PhotoShop when working with vector images for my CNC router and don't have to load Illustrator. This Curvature Pen Tool makes my day. Thank You Adobe Engineers!
BTW. . . I have been a fan of Julieanne Kost for a long time and worked with John Warnock when he was at Xerox, so I am very biased.
Hi Glyn, thanks for the fast tip, saves most of us plenty of time, cheers
Really thankful to you for describing it so nicely.😎
Thanks, very useful! 😍
Looking forward to checking this out!
I want to try this out ASAP!
Where can I download the bird shape ?
Wow, much needed improvement. Thank you
When will the update be available for download?
this reminds me of the curve tool in MS paint
nice approach might even be better than using other tools
I think It’s one of those tools that was introduced and teachers pretend doesn’t exist until they have to learn it to include it in curriculum. But it makes things so much easier! Glad to find it now. 🤪 Very cool! SO glad to learn it now. Thank you! #JKRocks! 🤟
Thanks for the info. Much easier than using multiple pens and keyboard shortcuts. Doc T
Thank you for excellent tutorial.
Does anyone know how to activate the "Constrain Path Dragging" option in Photoshop CC 2018?
Pen Pressure is not working again. I used to do the stylus trick in psuserconfig but its not working anymore. Please help!
Hi! What if you don´t want to make a closed path. If you just need to trace lines. Let´s say you want to stop half ways. How do you stop? Maybe it not the right use of this tool?
Probably tap escape when you're finished.
Your mic is horrible, needs to be closer to your mouth because it sounds like you are across the room from it.
On a positive note, THIS NEW TOOL IS AWESOME! Something a noob like me needed!
Partidge Family logo?
Anybody could help me? I wanted to make a certain shape and then put an image on it.. Any link ?Just a newbie here
I have installed the new PS version but this tool isn't available there, thought this was comming with the update today?
You need to reset Workspace. (Window | Workspace | Reset)
OK, I've got your anchor point! Much easier! I like it, a lot!
THANK You FOR THIS
I was SO excited until I tried to color the shapes, it won't add color. I have fill on, outline off, double click, get the color box, choose the color, ok, nothing changes. I have multiple shapes, dots, within the one path that was made into a shape, and can select one or all. Is that the problem? Each dot has to be it's own path made into it's one shape? I can't believe that would be the case but now I'm frustrated, I have cool shapes, but cannot color them.... Anyone had this problem?
Wow, fantastic!
SO MUCH easier - don't know why it took then to 2018 to make that improvement
On windows the double click does not work
how am I just learning about this?!
pls curvature pen tool not active in my new ps !!
Click on the edit toolbar, when it opens you will see the curvature tool on the right of the box.Drag it to the pen tool on the left, click OK.
thank u so much Bainebiker x

This use to be 'Photo'-shop!
Actually PS version 1 was for Graphic Designers, then it became PhotoShop (for photographers) but I suspect a lot of GDs still are hanging in there! If you don't believe me Wiki PS and look up the meaning of Photos (that's not the plural btw) in the dictionary.
David Dube' they should rebrand it

Noob alert. Can a shape become a selection, and can I then feather the selection?
I've been using the pen tool for 15 years and this is a lazy excuse for a pen, I think it's more limiting and wastes a lot more time for intricate designs. The last thing I want to do is to go back to individual points to reposition them. Sounds horrifying as a design to go back and double click a bunch of points that have already been placed and keep switching the pen back and forth. slows down workflow if you ask me..
