I should have mentioned that Dan is One of the All Time Great. college and Pro career. I met him at the 2011 Hall of Fame ( My cooege coach got inducted that year ) . I had a chance to meet and speak to Dan and his wife. What a thrill, we went on for 20 minutes about so much of his career ( i did that talking ) and about the NCAA game vs Jacksonville . We also spoke about Howard Porter of Villanova ( MOP of the 1971 tourney ) - Dan = Class Guy and Great Guy
My favorite player of all time. I grew up in very rural southwestern Kentucky and followed Issel's career in the pages of the Louisville Courier Journal newspaper that was delivered to our house each day. I quickly became a Kentucky Colonel aficionado and knew Dan through the newspaper stories long before I ever got to see him play. In fact, I never actually saw Issel in an NBA game until after he retired when I began to collect videos of past NBA and ABA games. I know have a collection of those I have uploaded here on You Tube.
