He not only makes 27.5 hardtails, he makes phenomenal ones. My Switchback Ti is hands down my favorite bike I’ve ever owned. I’m loving my new Gen 4 Sherpa too. They compliment each other perfectly in the stable, too.
Got a Stanton slackline, my first steel frame since 2003. Rides excellent. I run it mullet and love it. That’s my favorite but the all 27.5 is great too. Amazing how both set ups can be appealing.

The other thing I appreciate about Stanton is the customer service. When I have questions, I get prompt, thorough, accurate and genuinely friendly replies from Dan himself. Huge thanks for that, Dan.
Dan is a cream. 8 years ago, he wrote me an email to tell me that he had 2 Switchback MK1 left in stock as he was launching the MK2 version. I was in contact with him for 2 years, 'cos I was in love with his bikes but couldn't afford one. He thought about me and proposed me a ridiculous price for the kit... and 8 years after, my green emerald Switchback is still in my life. That's the thing about bying stuffs to small companies: you really can feel the human factor and the passion. I have the same experience with Raaw and Ruben as I built a Madonna recently. Ask him anything and he will reply with kindness. Support small brands and buy their products. They are often good and the human factor is great. Cheers!
Just got my Gen4 sherpa TI in the other day and can't wait until I get all my parts in to build it up. I walk over to my bike stand at least once an hour to just stare at it's beauty.
Been riding Stanton's frames for 10 years now; 2014 Sherpa 853, 2018 Switch9er Ti, 2022 Switchback 631...all fantastic frames and distinctly different. The Switch9er is an absolute ripper, I love it, I do not own a short travel full suspension bike because of it. It's the perfect blend of hardtail pedaling efficiency, damped ride compliance, and turn ripping lateral stiffness in an ideal geometry for aggressive and technical riding. 6 years of hard riding, 1000s of miles, dozens of mishaps, it feels and looks as great as it did the day it arrived on my doorstep. I think I'll still be riding it 10 years from now. It's perfect. Excited about the prospect of backward compatible sliding and UDH dropouts...when might we see those Dan?
Great video. Back in 2017/2018 I was between jobs and had severance along with a new job so I had some extra money. I was talking to Dan online about getting a bike but at that time they didn’t have any dealers and most were to be purchased from UK frame only given shipping cost. Now that I know more I should have just bought the frame and had a local shop build it. I ended up getting a GG Pedalhead and it was so much of a lead sled and so uncomfortable I hated riding it and sold it. I now have a Timberjack so given it’s all conventional BB and such I could get a Stanton frame and move parts over possibly
Really good to gain a bit more understanding directly from the source than just thorugh PR information like you as a consumer so often have to rely on. So many bikes you just won't really know until you have bought it, and this talk feels genuine and informative. The other thing is that this company feels passionate and I hope it will be here for many more years to come.
As a person who owned and still owns several Ti and Steel hardtail’s and gravel bikes.I’m always amazed by how much more I learn from your channel. Personally I also love the fact that Stanton offers drop out options. While everyone in America is convinced that Boost spacing is the only way to go. I have nice non-boost forks and hubs I use and will continue rebuilding and using, especially my SS Specific hubs from Hope,Hadley and ONYX. Thanks Steve, and thanks Stanton for taking the time to share.
Took all my parts from a YT Jeffsy and put them on a Switch9er. So much more fun, not looked back. Got my eye on an 853 Slackline now to take my alu 27.5 HT parts off for my long ride bike. Think this might have made me pull the trigger on it! Amazing bikes
Three years ago ditched my Carbon Hardtail frame and built onto Stanton 853 Sherpa..now running Carbon Rigid fork. Love it. The Stanton range of frames take some beating. The level of understanding and experience with this brand is outstanding.
Just built up a 140mm Switch9er Ti in Oct last year and am constantly impressed with the bike feel and what the bike is capable of doing really. I even got rid of my short travel full sus (130front 125rear travel) as I kept going back to this bike as it is comfortable on roots and rocks, down steeper black diamond trails, and really efficient on climbs without beating you up at all Great good job explaining the Switch9er Ti in a nutshell and yes, it does ruin the expectations of a hardtail or the quality/feelings that you may start looking for in the frame of the bike
Iv had a switchback ti since December . First hardtail Iv had in over 20 years and it moves. I can do 20 miles and hardly sit down on the seat . Best bike Iv ever had .
Thanks Steve for that new video, the complicity and friendship you have with Dan is great, as much as his fantastic frames. I've got a Switchback MK1 for 8 years now, and except few dents, that machine is still giving me so much fun. I'd like to get an upgrated version of it, only because of the rear tyre clearance which is limited, but I can live with it. BTW: I swapped my fork lastly from a 44mm rake to a 37 one and I'd say that... I rediscover my bike, not that it was awkward, but the 37mm rake gives it so much more agility. The difference is huge. Would you make a subject about forks' rake in a near future, unless you already did it? Thanks again Steve. Cheers from France!
I bought a switch9er a little over a year ago, its my 5th hardtail. I gotta say, everything they say seems to be true, the frame feels fantastic! i guess i would just change to another stanton or just buy the same again but in another color ;)
So confidence inspiring to listen to the designer have such a thorough knowledge of the materials, tubing diameters and the behaviors of each material. I swear most companies just pick a tube set that's already established and slap it in.
6:05 ,when Dan started talking about stability when starting to pedal hard before a kicker jump or gap jump. I can confirme this with switch9er. Never had so stabile frame preventing me to go of side or dead sailor. I can now literally pedel almost into a jump, bike stabilizes before take off.. combined with low BB this is even more pronounced. One only has to be careful about crank lenght if you ride in rock garden areas ,165-170 mm max.
Hello Steve, good to see you. I like the paint jobs of the 27.5"....really cool. The frames are beautiful. Thanks for that much input about frames and what they are good for. Regards from Germany.
I'm so excited to get a Sherpa gen 4 ordered. You are the only company the are able to produce a frame based on me being short a*se. As well as stunning colours to choose from: now to choose a colour!
The Stanton Switch9er is the best bike for enjoy ridding i've ever had. Smoothc solid and confortable... and also so so fast in dh's... sometimes you forget that you're ridding a hardtail. What a joy of bike!
Super interesting discussion! I'm not sure when I'll be able to justify another bike, but Stanton is on the short list. This conversation was quite helpful.
ok, i love my brand new slackline. it just disappears beneath you, never complains about power delivery, composed in tech, no fighting big wheels, low BB. i can keep up with 29rs just as well and clear tricky features better. im 5/11 too, so i don't need a 27.5 just like it better.

True words!!! 100% My Stanton Slackline Gen2 is so joyfull to ride (150mm fork). Super comfortable when compared to my old KLEIN Aluminium frames or the OnOne I had before! This was filmed a week before the death march. Poor Dan. We had to turn the A/C off to film this, and it was about 90*. He almost melted while filming this. He's a good sport.
How about some commentary on STA and ST length? Length seems to be getting better in latest versions but I guess they do not do a lot of uphill grinding in the UK as the STA doesn’t seem to fit with your other commentary.
Great video Steve! Where does the Sedona fit in with this line? Currently riding a Switch9er but the idea of a more playful 29er sounds fun-unless I have it wrong. Love HP!
I just released a video on the sedona. Its different from the rest of these. It's meant for fun at slower speeds. Its like the sherpa and the slackline had a baby
Great advice to emphasize what is it you realistically ride because the marketing is sooo strong towards Enduro, big gaps, massive drops and all that is awesome but most of us aren't doing that and to buy a bike built for that and end up doing long trail rides you'll lose out on a lighter, more comfortable ride. There are riders who will use the more robust bikes but I think most are not going to use that bikes capabilities. I had to do the same thing when looking at my first full suspension. gen 4 tech talk is on stanton's youtube channel. The sedona is brand new and won't be available for a few months. As soon as the iso testing is done, ensuring the design is strong enough (it will be), we'll open pre-orders and I'll release my first-look vid.
Been riding my switch9er for 5 years now and wondering how the sherpa would feel, the switch9er already is the most comfy hardtail I have ever had. Just wish it came with a slightly steeper seat tube... Great vid, Thanks...

The website does show what's in stock. Bikes are built in big batches, so some of these models are awaiting shipment of more. I agree, a US distributor would be wonderful. If you know of someone who would be a good fit, feel free to let us know.
Steve can you show us a 27.5 x 2.8 in the Switchback? I’ve got one in the cart on the UK site but I want to run a 2.6 wintertime. Any photos available online show a 2.4 that looking filling to the yoke…
Thanks for responding. Unfortunately I have my doubts on a clearance to the yoke (where the semi-circle profile leaves as a taper to the chainstay). In photos a 2.4 tread shoulder corner is pretty close😢 (unavoidable for the assy strength) if you do have chance id be interested to know if a 3.0 does fit. The 2.6 I run on a 40 rim is the suspension I need for my 50yr old ankles!!
@@johnnydodgem4369Thanks Johnny I’m tempted by the slackline, but I like the stumpier rear end to the Switchback there’s a difference it being 13mm shorter not much but its gets my stumpy legs more ‘BMX’ over the back wheel my current hardtail is 425mm chainstay but its only giving 4/5mm clearance to sidewall/ tread shoulder.
Yes, why moots? Im not challenging your opinion, just curious. Ive been mtbing since the 90s, i know their legacy and their reputation. Ive ridden a few MOOTS. I'm just curious why it'd be a moots over something else?

@@jonamail3143 If it helps, I run a Slackline with Hope Fortus 35 wheels. 36t ring. Rear tyre is 27.5 x 2.8 Rocket Ron. No clearance issues at all.
Thanks !!
But…. Where’s the Sedona….
This was filmed before the sedona was built. Ill share tons more info once it passes iso testing and can be pre-ordered.
Steel sherpa gen 3. My other bikes are being neglected.

Missed the perfect opportunity to talk abt the Sedona smh it’s ok
This was filmed many months ago, before the Sedona even had a name.
Mint!
The perfect frame color
If I had
💰12,000 🍁 I'd be buying a Titanium mountain bike; but likely a MOOTS🤘🤘
Why?
@@hardtailparty Why MOOTS?
Yes, why moots? Im not challenging your opinion, just curious. Ive been mtbing since the 90s, i know their legacy and their reputation. Ive ridden a few MOOTS. I'm just curious why it'd be a moots over something else?
@hardtailparty These reasons Steve🤘🤘. I only know of Stanton from watching your channel 👍👍. Nice looking frames 👍👍. I really like the looks of 2000 MOOTS YBB frame🤘🤘
