Really nice video. You have an easy manner in front of the camera, and it's quite easy (for me) to feel I'm listening to a friend. Interesting that you are working with someone in Ireland on the turbines. I live on the Beara peninsula in West Cork, on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. (I got here long before there WAS a Wild Atlantic Way!) Like you I got cheesed off with town life (I'm a Dubliner originally) and live in a bungalow on an acre of the most beautiful land you can imagine -imho- with mountains filling my windows. Never thought I could survive living in a tiny west of Ireland village, but here I am 20 years later, happy as can be. Keep being Kris, Kris. Great channel!

Kris, thanks for taking the time to answer all those questions - good to hear some of your background; I'd assumed you had a woodworking career, but it's obviously just a love and feeling for wood that drives you. Most RUclipsrs think that the 'boring' stuff is boring, but not so, many of us pick up on things that are intuitive to you, but are new to us.

Kris - I follow a channel of a homesteading family and truly enjoy the videos that follow the morning chores - feeding chickens, feeding pigs, checking the garden, watering, etc. Watching the daily rhythm is soothing for viewers and I hope it reduces the editing time for the creator.
You have done a couple of videos about doing your daily rounds. How about doing such videos every week or two? Or show morning chores for a few minutes, and then a few minutes showing a project you are working on (or repairs) or talking about a project or a subject/topic? Perhaps these types of videos would not take as much time to plan, film and/or edit and would be satisfying to you while being so very welcomed by your RUclips community. Filmed Q-&-A sessions (every week or two) would also be very welcome.
One suggestion: When you do a single video showing a project from start to finish that has little or no audio, could you add either short printed explanatory phrases or pithy voiceover comments? You did printed explanations for one video but the words left the screen too quickly.

I'm curious to see if you will maybe do that second intake for the hydro you were planning and how you will balance it, I have some ideas but nothing tested.
Also something to think about is a septic system that can be used to feed plants
I think you are doing a great job getting back to nature in a big way, and from someone who suffers badly from depression and PTSD, I think you probably did get a bit depressed at the start but worked your way through it and just kept on going.
You are an INSPIRATION to humans everywhere who feel trapped by the system and need to escape. I unfortunately do not have the same means to escape but you bring all those ideas and processes that I have researched and put it into practical use, in front of a camera, so others can learn.

I was 17 in NH (USA) and built a cabin, hand drilled a well, had no electricity and lived through the first year in NH winter (-5F and lots of snow back then, circa 1969) but as you said, a lot of things I would have done differently. However, it build character and forms the rest of your life one way or another. Makes a better person of you of puts you in the rehab center.. I survived and although not living "off the grid" I am certainly doing all I can do to reduce, recycle, reuse and get back to nature. Solar on the house, large garden, mostly hand work on building/creating stuff and really enjoy the outcomes. Keep it up! DD

Bravo Kris! I rehabbed an old rowhome. Removed all the systems and floors/walls, etc. People told me I couldn't do it including family. They just didn't have the VISION that I had. I was acting General Contractor and hired subcontractors. Also did the demolition with help from others. It was one of the greatest adventures in my life. I went in with little experience without fear -- because I had the vision. It was annoying when others close to me doubted me. My success proved to myself that I could do it and better than many. I think its important that you enjoy your journey and give yourself time to enjoy what you have built so far. The workshop will be finished when its finished. The house will get built when it gets built. I have watched so many channels were the people are consumed with finishing by some ridiculous deadline and are miserable until that is done. You have made a lifestyle choice that very few of us get to make and I would like to see you enjoy every day of this chosen lifestyle

I'll never understand why content creators often focus on the bottom feeders negging you. You can have 100 people applauding, and you let the one person scowling bother you. Some do it because making you miserable makes them happy, mostly because they themselves are miserable. You'll never get universal acclaim for doing something. But the point is that you are doing something. And it's worthwhile and valued. I find you both entertaining and informative. And I can assure you I don't watch with an eagle eye waiting for a slip up. Life's too short, don't focus on the naysayers. FIDO, baby. Remember, you haven't just built a home and a workshop, you've built a rather nice platform too...and most of the people I see commenting are nice and positive, so I'd say you've built a rather nice online community, too.

I’m 16 and I’m Totally the same as you, I don’t miss a single thing about the city, I used to live in London but now my mum lives in a house in a town and my dad lives on a narrowboat off grid much prefer my dad’s! I have my own caravan and solar setup and I love to be in control and just monitor what I’m using and be mindful of the environment! And one day I’d love to purchase a large area of land and live off grid exactly as you are it has always been my dream! Keep up the great content Kris absolutely love it been watching since about 70 K subscribers!

I am so grateful to have found you! The degree of thoughtfulness in your work is encouraging, especially those steps you take to save the land and yet to be self sufficient. Because you did so much by hand, should times get nasty, you have already gained the tutelage needed to carry on while most of us will be at ground zero. I so admire your creativity and pricess!

You have to have an open, inquisitive mind to have the capacity to become a kind of Jack of all trades. Living off grid, and adapting so well, is a testament to your many achievements. You have very good instincts and also practical common sense to tackle such a wide variety of home and workshop results on your generously sized land. You are well equipped to survive, even when the going gets tough sometimes. I have learned a lot by watching your progression, vicariously of course. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am a fan of your channel, like a growing fan base of many others. Take care.

Kris…I do not know your education but you are possibly one of the best engineers I have ever encountered. Working with machinery, wood, energy generation, video prep, ….it goes on and on. I worked for Otis Elevator from 1962 tom1995. In various positions, all engineering oriented. I was a Civil, but worked with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc engineers . You would have fit right in. Keep chasing your dream. Good Luck and GOD Bless.

Hi Kris, I only found your channel recently and to look back on how you started and how you've progressed is inspirational. Keep doing what you are doing and sharing the journey with the rest of us. thanks!

I'm here astounded by all of the things you've learned and so excited to find you because you explain things sooooo well. So, new follower, very happy to have found your channel. I love seeing everything you've tried, what worked and what didn't, and how detailed your videos are, how detailed your explanations are. You are a treasure.

Kris, you are such an inspiration. I used to be fine living so called "normal" life. Now I am getting my act together and saving up for land to do the same thing you did. Although a harder life style, your life style just seems right. It just makes more sense then the current way too busy to do anything for yourself life style most people have these days. I've been an electrician for 24 years here in the states so I do have the construction background covered luckily. Still don't know that I could build like you did. Kudos on having the mindset, energy, and know how to do it all. Everything looks so nice. Thanks to you, I have been figuring solar out. There really is a lot more to it then a lot of people would think. It's one of many steps closer to my new life goal and I thank you for it. I too want a life away from the craziness. I'll keep watching your videos as long as you make them!

I watch in wonderment at all the marvelous skills you have! Your land is beautiful, your buildings are so ingenious, I’m just full of admiration for all of it. I cannot imagine anyone criticizing you. What. The. Heck! Shame on them. If they can’t be supportive, they should go watch cartoons or something banal to occupy their tiny brains. You’re living your dream, “going after it!” Good for you! Few people ever do that. Please don’t stop.

Hi Kris ! Thanks for an emotional film. I've been living 56 years without finding / meeting a person with similar values of life, like I have. I've seen quite a few of your RUclips films and you impress on me every time. If you ever want to get stone rich, put some of your positive attitude in small boxes and sell them one by one. I guess you can sell several millions of them as soon as people understand the content in the box they just bought. Keep up the hard work and never give up your dreams. Our dreams forms our character.
All the best : Joakim from Sweden

    Hi Kris!
I've been following your journey since your started building the frame of the roundhouse. Every week ever since I have been eager to see you moving forward. Not everyone is looking forward to see you fail. But maybe we with goodwill tend to comment less.
If you ever "quit" RUclips, I hope you'll keep on doing some (say monthly) short vlog-like updates so we can continue follow your interesting journey.
I think your RUclips "isn't picking up" because you're remaining true to yourself and are not trying to change your content to match what works for "trends".
    Wish you well.

Scruffy Hobbit! Love it! I'm cut from the same cloth 😁. A long video but has probably saved you time responding to comments, very honest, informative and definitely worth watching all the way through. It's so refreshing to know that there are people that care, that try and that have the intelligence to think things through a bit and also think about all their possibilities. Hope you're all well.
