Put a non return valve on the end in the pond - you will be able to “pump” with the nrv by moving the pipe back and forth in the water, add a ball cock at the drum and it will be forever full and primed. Hi Kris. I'm currently a operations manager for a large company in Ireland of you need any input or advise I'm happy to share knowledge. I'd suggest putting in 6kw, at the moment it might be over kill for you as you have hydro and wind power. But having the extra 2kw there if needs be. Also dont mix match wattage of panels... ie 300watt panel with say a 315watt. It creates heat spots and all panels will reduce to the wattage of the lower panels. There is methods to correct this. But best just buying all same watt panels.. Hope this helps..
Please, I’d be interested in the methods to correct for mismatched pannels, as i’d like to reuse pannels, i think recycling is the greenest of green energy ;).
@@TheEmbrio You can use mismatched panels but you need more charge controllers (or inverters) because each charge controller should only have matched panels connected to it (otherwise all your panels are reduced in performance to match whichever panel is the worst). If you have 10 matched panels you could connect them to a single charge controller, but if you have 10 mismatched panels you will need 10 charge controllers to get the most out of each panel. You'll also need to select charge controllers that will work in parallel, as some that are "smart" and try to do battery conditioning etc. will misbehave if more than one is connected to the same battery bank. Although it costs more having so many charge controllers, it does provide redundancy because a failed panel or charge controller will just reduce your power generation a little, it won't take out the whole system. And it makes it much easier to gradually expand your system as needed, unlike the more traditional method of a single charge controller/inverter and a fixed set of panels that can never be added to.

Only you, Kris, could just film a few things throughout your week, and it would be more than most of us do in years. Waterlines, garden projects, milling lumber for a couple other projects… All the while sharing dozens of projects to come! I did build a 1 acre garden and large hoop house, but it took years and lots of helping hands. Thank you for sharing incredible know how, future plans and motivation!
Good idea about the sunflowers -- I grew sunflowers the last couple of years and have collected the seeds to grow more to feed the rabbits. They can live off of just sunflowers or just alfalfa. As well the sunflower oil has many uses including for fuel :) Awesome video!!! Thank you -- I appreciate all your talents!!!

Kris, l really enjoy your channel, especially as you have solar, hydro and wind. Just surprised you have not added another turbine. Maybe you could put in a hydro ram pump to pump water from the waterfall up to the top pond or garden instead of carrying anything for hydrating the garden.

I'm surprised you haven't knocked up some sort of hydraulic lift/ramp to get logs up on the saw by now, it'd be quite a simple thing to do, faster than that boat winch and easier on your back too.

Have you considered building or making a set of tire covers for the tires on your mill? the UV getting to the rubber will degrade them over time and they will become useless. I know you don't haul it much but I know tires aren't cheap and making a cover out of scrap lumber or even heavy tarp (the rubberized kind) could go a long way to preventing losing your tires to dry rot. Just a thought. Keep up the great work. You're definitely an inspiration.
Hi Kris, really loving the videos! About the little sprinkler, it is a sector sprinkler. We use them a lot in the Netherlands. On the back you can flip the mechanism and it wil move from left to right and back. You may have to have a bit more pressure sometimes. However I noticed that one direction needs less pressure than the other, so if I have not enough pressure, I’ll just let it spin 360 degrees. Hope it helps!

With your gravity fed water barrels you can automatically fill them using a float switch from a toilet cistern that automatically opens as the ball float lowers after your water level goes down & when the water level approaches the top it blocks off the water inlet from your gravity fed stream.
Loving all of this. Hope you get well soon! I second the comment about making use of the space under the solar array for covered storage or something of the like. On the farm we've got some bale forks that slip over the lip of the bucket for the older tractors without quick-change loader attachments; quick and easy little fabrication job (you may already have something of the like). Looking at the milling setup I thought that if the mill was oriented at a right angle to the log pile it would be very easy to roll logs off the pile onto the forks of the tractor and then swing them around and roll straight off onto the mill bunks.
Hey kris the yield for sunflower oil is around 30 to 80 gallons per acre of sunflowers upwards of 6kg of seed per litre, chicken feed is probably the best option for small sunflower crops

Great to have free water! We use a timer connected to small irrigation tubing. Allows targeted watering.
