She is shining bright like a star! These interviews are so rare these days, so profound and intelligent. Would love to see a new interview with her like this. It seems, people think she is crazy and superficial nowadays. The amount of hate and judgement she gets is worse than ever I feel. Well, she has nothing left to prove and the fans know better. Thanks again ladies! This was great!

You’re right. For the last 40 years, she has shared her thoughts, her struggles, her spirituality, advocacy, her pain and joys with those who care to understand and appreciate her artistry and journey through her songs, music videos, tours, interviews, and more. It’s all there captured in her vast catalogue of discography and videography. Her successful 2023/24 Celebration Tour revealed that she is as creative, artistic, as fierce and consistent in her advocacy as ever, as we’ve come to know her throughout her career. For me, she doesn’t have to do new interviews to explain herself again, and certainly not ever to placate those who take petty pot shots at her. I think for her, these critics are the newer versions of the prejudiced, ignorant, jealous, and bigoted people that she’s faced and dealt with all her life.
She reverts to her street-smart, punk-rooted “in your face” confrontational response to these haters by owning their criticism and rubbing it in their face. When they criticize her for looking “ugly” for having cosmetic facial treatment, she posted on Instagram close-up photos of her swollen face post treatment. When they hated her for donning front teeth ornamental grills-she posted on her social media photos of her grinning widely, proudly showing what she considered oral jewelry or “grillz” that she’s been wearing occasionally since the 90s-she considers these criticisms as akin to those questioning a woman’s individual right and freedom to decide what they want for their bodies. Similarly these detractors question why she was having romantic affairs with younger men, so she posted more photos of her having fun with her younger boyfriend(s)-for her, it’s akin to homophobic bigotry-strangers who feel they can question and ostracize consenting adults for choosing who to love openly. She’s saying in effect-yep, that’s me-it’s my (effing) choice, it’s my body, it’s my life-and it’s none of your (effing) business! These naysayers will never faze her and she’ll never back down from them.

Sir Michael Parkinson, or "Parkie" as he was known was one of the most popular and sought after interviewer of all time. The biggest names in the entertainment world would request him if the came to Europe to promote a project or even just to have fun with a respectful presenter. We lost him in 2023 on Madonna's Birthday, ironically enough to your reaction. A great loss and a reminder of a time when millions of people all watched the same show across the nation.

Always enjoy your reactions because you guys are knowledgeable and very open minded. Also Brenda; I believe you said before that you’re a teacher and I have always been very fond of many of my teachers because of everything they taught me so it’s refreshing to hear a teacher’s point of view. All that can say about Madonna is this: the first time that I saw her was In 1984 on MTVm A month after arriving in The USA/NYC from the Dominican Republic. I was 8 years old and didn’t speak of word of English. She was performing Dress You Up from the Virgin Tour. I didn’t know what she was singing about but I felt this sort of energy pulling me in her direction and the song and her performance felt liberating. Therefore, I immediately became a fan. As I learned the English language; I got to know her better which was amazing because I was a little gay Latin boy from a very Catholic family at a time when gay people were seen as an abomination and the very few gay characters that I saw on TV were portrayed as these sort of abnormal characters who’s only purpose was to act in the most ridiculously flamboyant way possible for pure laughs and zero substance. And because of that; I hated being different but when I finally learned English and was able to understand what Madonna was saying in her interviews and songs, I started to feel different about myself because my favorite pop star and pretty much the most fabulous and famous woman in the world was letting me know that I was just as normal and as special as everyone else. I love her for that.

Hi Brenda and Emily, your reaction this was great. I haven’t watched it for a few years so it was a nice trip down memory lane. Brenda you articulated why gay people of a certain age worship Madonna. Growing up I was 10 when she exploded like a force of nature. In the Uk, the government introduced a law called section 28 which made it against the law for schools to promote or talk about homosexuality. Newspapers would print horrendous articles full of slurs riddled with homophobia. If you grew up as I did in a small town you just felt scared and alone and didn’t dare speak what you felt. Then came Madonna- she was relentless in her support, and openly used gay dancers In her videos allowing them to be themselves in the same way she did with colour and representation. She held the hands of millions of gay people like myself that it felt like she way physically doing it when nobody else wanted to. I will love her forever for it. She didn’t have to and in many ways it risked her career but she didn’t care. She isn’t given credit for her loyalty and strength of her beliefs. I’m glad you acknowledged and can see it. Only 2 more singles to go before you hit the confessions tour - the 4th single jump is a song about coming out funnily enough - it’s a great song. Look forward yo your next reaction

Another pleasant surprise video coverage! Glad you reacted to this-it’s a nice pause and blend of her insight, history, evolution and a bit of preview of her then 2005 Confessions era dance songs (Hung Up, and Get Together). The show host Michael Parkinson is the UK’s version of Larry King-inquisitive but benign and non-threatening that makes Madonna open up.
Indeed by this time, she has settled down and assimilated with English culture after marrying Guy Richie in 2000. She shared a common fascination with Parkinson (who owned a pub) about English pub culture. Madonna and Richie enjoyed frequenting pubs in Greater London that by early in 2008 they (pre-divorce) bought the upscale and historic Punch Bowl pub for 2.5million British pounds Iocated in posh Mayfair district of Westminster borough. On a side note: Mayfair is the location of Berkeley Square-a leafy garden park-that was immortalized in the 1940 romantic song A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square, one of my all-time faves, that the Manhattan Transfer made a popular version in 1982. My wife and I visited the square on our trip to London in the spring of 2019-it was as lovely as the song depicted it. We also walked by the Punch Bowl pub but we skipped going inside-Guy Richie had sold it in 2013 after Madonna gave it to him as part of their divorce settlement later in 2008.
Finally, like Madonna and you, Brenda, I’ve long become skeptical and questioning about organized religion like Catholicism of which I was raised. Also she was quite humble when Parkinson asked her what she thought was the reason why she had a large gay fandom. She joked that perhaps she “was a gay man trapped in a woman’s body”.. and more seriously she said that perhaps they’re “attracted to strong women”. Historically, she had developed a strong bond with the gay community ever since her first gay mentor, Christopher Flynn inspired her in dance school in Michigan. Moving to NYC, the community of gay artists welcomed and accepted her and she not only appreciated this and their artistic talents but she empathized and shared with their of experience of being subjected to prejudice and bigotry. She would champion their causes throughout her career and earned their loyalty and their acknowledgment of her as a gay icon and heroine.
Thoroughly enjoyed your insight and reaction to this video. Thank you!❤😊

Madonna looked her best in her 40's to early 50's. I wish she would go back to parting her hair on the side. She wore that sort of hairstyle the best. This Interviewer Sir Michael Parkinson R.I.P was one of the best ever, up there with any interviewers that ever lived. Everyone. ( well nearly everyone) wanted to be interviewed by him they felt comfortable around him, never talked over his guests let them finish before he asked another question. Asked proper sometimes intimate questions. This interview was up there. And we know Madonna if she’s not happy with an interview/interviewer she would let him/her and us know!

Completely agree (and yes, it's always very clear when she has a great rapport with the interviewer). ❤️❤️

this was one of the most intimate interviews she ever had... she shared so much, and this is why I love her.. she taught me so much I never had to talk to my parents about

Michael Parkinson ("Parky") presented chat shows on TV and radio since the '70s. A top notch interviewer and a British institution. He just passed away about a year ago.
I recall Madonna talking about how her daughter wouldn't hang up her clothes, so the rule was anything left on the floor when she left for school was taken away and she had to do different chores to earn her clothes back.
No matter what, people will always find a way to be critical.
Because you know if she'd said "I can't get my daughter to clean her messy room" they'd be criticizing her for having no discipline.
