    I spent 7 years on that unit as the only operator and completed just under 20,000 hours on her. Completed all servicing myself except for some bigger items of wear and tear.

    Wow, that D6 is more powerful and works harder than I had even thought that it would. You rarely had to hit one of those 12 - 14" pine stumps more than one time to force it out of the ground. What was surprising to me was that many of those stumps had 2 - 4' tap roots which didn't phase the dozer at all. The owners' Shepard even seemed to like and respect the power of the dozer as well. It would appear that you were a big winner and have bought yourself a keeper in that Florida auction dozer, for sure, for sure.

    • @RAYAR54
      @RAYAR54 2 года назад +6

      It all depends on the type of trees you're stumping. Trees that have a big tap root are not going to lift out as easy as trees with a shallow root system. It also depends on how wet the ground is, so many variables to consider. It's also costly to have pieces of equipment delivered to the site, so depends on what piece(s) of equipment is needed for the job at hand.

    Hey Chris, how about going over all the controls and show us what each one does? I can catch some of the results from pushing or pulling a lever but on everything! Thanks.

    • @Blazer02LS
      @Blazer02LS 2 года назад

      That is a basic dozer. Left lever on the seat pedestal is shuttle shift for forward/reverse and which gear, lever below that is the hydraulic/brake lock, Works like modern ones, up = off, Two levers on the dash are steering clutches. Pull either one to disengage the track clutch for that side. Want to turn left going forward you pull the left clutch, the right track keeps turning to push you to the left. Want to turn HARD left? Pull the lever out and step on the left brake. Floor are left/right brakes. Pedal all the way right is a decel pedal, works opposite a gas pedal, push down to slow the engine down. Right lever on the side of the dash is the throttle and engine kill. Lever on the right seat pedestal is the blade control up/down and tilt.
      Get used to them on any older CAT and you can run pretty much all the old Cats.

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf 2 года назад +1

      To get you a faster answer, here's the controls!
      The two handles that he pulls out of the center console are the steering clutches. The right handle lets the right track slip and vs versa.
      Then there are two brake pedals on the floor, a left and a right, one for each track. So if you want to turn a little bit right, you pull a little on the right lever and it lets the right track slip a little bit. If you want to turn hard right, you pull the right clutch lever all the way, and then step on the right brake pedal and it locks the right track, pivoting around it.
      If you are pushing under load, just letting the right clutch slip a little bit will make the right track stop moving, and if it's heavy load, the left track will probably just spin.
      You have to feather the clutches if you are trying to turn while pushing, because at full push it requires the traction from both tracks to move at all.
      If you step on either brake without pulling a clutch lever, it just slows both tracks down equally.
      For the throttle, there is the lever on the right side of the console, which directly operates the governor. All the way one direction shuts all fuel off to stop the engine, and all the way the other direction is full throttle, and you can set it anywhere between and set your maximum rpm.
      Then on the right side of the floor to the right of the brake pedals is the Decelerator pedal. This does the same thing as moving the throttle lever to reduce fuel, though it won't shut the engine off.
      Basically when you step on it, it takes the engine to idle, and when you take your foot off it, the engine goes to whatever speed you have the throttle lever set to.
      So to start, you have to pull the lever off shutoff position and give it a little fuel, a high idle basically.
      Once you are warned up and ready to work, you basically put the lever to full throttle, since that's where you generally operate.
      When you need to slow down, like when the dog was going after the stick, you step on the decel pedal to get the desired speed.
      Also when you are changing direction, you step on the decel pedal to drop the engine to idle, shift the transmission to the other direction, and wait for the transmission to engage in the other direction, and then take your foot off the decel pedal to bring the power back in.
      It's done this way instead of an accelerator pedal because you spend most of the time at full throttle, so it would tie your foot up instead of having it available for the brake pedal, or just chilling on the floor lol
      The transmission is the lever on the left, I think that style is called the Power shift or something (Cat nerds don't kill me, it's been a couple of years since I ran this version! Lol)
      It's a U shaped shift pattern. Push all the way forward and it's in neutral.
      I think reverse is away from you, and forward is pull it towards yourself.
      Then it has 3 detents on each side, 1, 2, and 3rd gear, which it will shift between if you put it in 3rd. 3rd is basically Travel gear, if you want to beat your undercarriage up lol.
      Some work can be done in 2nd, but anything heavy will be in 1st.
      There should be a parking brake lever on the front side of the transmission shifter pedestal that when pushed down moves the transmission shifter into neutral and locks the tracks.
      When you want to operate the machine, you lift the lever and it sticks out into the aisle much like the safety lever on an excavator, so you will set the brake before getting off.
      On the right side is the blade control, which I think on this will be a single wobble lever, so pull back to lift the blade, push forward to lower it, push forward until it goes into a detent to lock it in Float mode, and side to side would tilt the blade through the cylinder on the left corner of the blade to allow you to cut slopes or dig one corner of the blade under a stump.
      Small finish dozers often also allow the blade to be angled to move material left or right, which is often done by twisting the handle, but heavier dozers don't usually have that feature, and tilt is done with the corner cylinder and the geometry of the blade braces and swivel joints, so you get some adjustability but excellent rigidity and strength.
      Since you are interested in controls, the tracked loader I believe is very similar in the throttle and transmission controls, but I believe that steering is done exclusively with the pedals, so partial pedal lets the track slip, and full pedal locks the brake. I could be wrong, but I have seen no other steering controls on it. It also has multiple levers for the bucket control, I think one is lift/lower, one is bucket curl/dump and one is 4 way bucket open and close.
      They will also have a giant master battery switch with a removable "key", usually off on the left side of the seat somewhere, and on the dash will be a big Knob for the starter, sometimes with glow plugs one direction, and starter the other direction.
      If it has rippers or a winch it will have one (or two if it's got adjustable angle rippers on an older model) more lever to the right of the blade lever.
      For whatever reason most Western dozers have rippers, except for specific forestry dozers with a winch or ag dozers for pulling implements, and most Eastern dozers seem to not have rippers or a winch.
      Maybe the soil is so soft they don't need rippers?
      These days modern dozers tend to have two joysticks, one for steering and speed control, and one for the blade, and then a decel pedal and maybe a brake pedal?
      And everything else is knobs and switches and AI and neural interfaces! (soon... Lol)

    That’s nice having an electric fuel pump in your truck. I worked for a man back in the late 80’s who had a Case 850 dozer and a 850 track loader, The tank in his truck had a manual pump with a handle you did by hand, that was a lot of pumping every other day to fill them.

    Never seen you so stumped before, okay i know that was not the best but its what popped in my head. Chris i always enjoy seeing your videos and the jobs you get into, even the ones where you have to "fix" someone else job. Nonetheless its amazing what you do and what you have shared over the many years of you posting videos on here.
    So i hope Justin is doing well, If your able too can you give him a visit or have him come help. It's always nice to see Justin in your videos. Question, how you talked about how you met Justin and how his started his own business that's a lot like yours. I feel it'll be a good video to have on your channel.
    Anyway keep up the awesome videos and stay safe out there.

    Diesel (On Road) was 4.89/gal yesterday in North Texas. Unl went 3.89 to 4.09 while I watched it from the coffee shop yesterday afternoon. Nearly $55.00 to fuel my truck just over half at 13.76 gals

    Looks like the dog wanted to help but I think that big beautiful cat can do it all by itself. That looks to be a great machine you bought Chris the way it pops off in 40 degree weather after setting for a week tells me it's been well taken care of an it not been beat all up an run to death. You might call that a barn fine that was found in an auction. Keep up the great work!

    When I was a kid in the late 50’s I could smell hot oil a mile away. I was the one sitting on spoil piles for hours after school watching the cable excavators dig subdivision homes. Damn, I haven’t grown up a day when it comes to iron toys! But now it’s more comfortable in a recliner on the tube.

    I've seen other RUclips's stumping and some of them always use just the left part of the blade. I guess they see the stump better. I see you use the left, right and middle, that seems to be better for equal wear on the blade.

    The camera ahead of you is much better for stumping because we can see the stumps as you see them. I used to wonder how you knew where the stumps were when filming on a tripod because I couldn't see them. Thanks
