THE RECIPE
Makes 2 litres
INGREDIENTS:
1 kg blackberries
250 g granulated sugar
1 bottle (70cl) vodka, at least 40% proof
INSTRUCTIONS
Wash the blackberries and place them in a sterilised 2 litre preserving jar.
Add the sugar and lightly crush the berries with the sugar.
Pour over the vodka, stir the contents and seal the jar. Leave to infuse in a cool place for 2-4 weeks.
Strain the vodka into a sterilised bottle.
Serve your delicious blackberry vodka chilled, preferably from the freezer.
Until next time, happy camping!

Update - after 2 weeks I had nicely flavoured vodka. if you can hold out for 4 weeks you get a (rather potent) blackberry liqueur (don't drink near an open flame). Added bonus, the "sludge" that's left over is very nice on ice cream, although after eating it you probably wouldn't want to drive or operate heavy machinery for several hours...
"The Sludge" .... Great name for a Jam.
BAHAHAHAHAHA
Thank YOU

I know what I'm doing with my blackberries this year now! Thank you!
Looking forward to trying this one Jane!!
Watch out, it'll likely become an annual addiction in your house too! 😁
Cheers 🥃🥃🥃
Prost! 🥂
Yummy, hic!
We've been picking elderberries on the Somerset levels all morning for our Xmas voddy!
But I'm gonna send my girls into the neighbours garden for black berries when we get home tomorrow!
X
I was out picking elderberries yesterday Matt! Love that you're putting the girls to work too, learn them up young!
I am going to try this
Will keep that recipe in mind, Tasty. I've just made my Damson gin 🤪Three month's to wait 😉👍
Awesome! The damsons and sloes are next on my hit list!
Wonderful video thanks
FANTASTIC
😊
Hi Jane great vid as usual ,but I wonder if the mash left after being strained could be used in pie with apples or as a topping for ice cream or similar ?
You can do it without mashing the blackberries or even adding sugar
Looks fab! However I loathe vodka and can always taste it regardless of how it is flavoured. Perhaps the sugar and masses of fruit would disguise it more. I usually make sloe, or blackberry gin or brandy, and yes, cheap supermarket quality has always been fine for us! Wondering if a small glass would knock me out of ketosis very much....😅
EVERCLEAR... (it is stronger... and will take longer... but very good).
I loves a hedgerow booze
The better quality comes from multiple distillings. High quality has less burn when it goes down and you have less of a hangover.
No you know I like that!!!! Make it most years along with sloe gin and anything else I can boozyise (is that a word lol) x
So damn good eh JP? I'm not actually a fan of booze, but this stuff is so smooth it just glides down 😍
Good for when you get a cold lol I add a bit of honey to mine too
@@JPLamoureuxsTravels Oooh, never thought to consider it medicine 😃
Just popped mine in the pantry. Will report back in 4 weeks...😎
Nice video. Mine came out cloudy. The blackberries broke down to mash. Any ideas on clearing it up. Thanks
U can some great little clip top bottles from IKEA under £2
Yes you can! They'd be perfect 😁
Goodday lady. Will frozen blackberry's also do the trick? Cobus🐋
How much sugar per kg of fruit?
where were you hiding that last bottle..?
It was buried behind a tonne of other brews and concoctions. I think we need a brew and concoction party 😆
Hello Jane. I was just looking for a Blackberry Liqueur recipe and found you. Its a lovely, easy to follow and entertaining video. Did you use castor sugar? Thank you for your work. I'm going to watch some of your other videos soon. Regards Nick
Hey Nick! You can use any sugar you like, caster sugar will take a little less time to dissolve but the results will be the same 👌 You’ve now got me thinking about trying it with a brown sugar 🤔
@@hedgecomber Thank you for replying so quickly Jane. I'm going to try castor sugar. On my walks, I'm watching the blackberries, maybe another 2 or 3 weeks before they are ready here in Yorkshire. Take care.
I’ve had a bottle of blackberries in vodka sitting for about three years and I’m wondering if I strain it now Van I still drink it??? Or will I most likely get sick like km thinking?
Side note there is no mold present
Oh boy! The alcohol will prevent any poisoning but I would imagine that the blackberries would have disintegrated into a mush? It might not be a pleasant drink but I don’t believe it will harm you (please don’t haunt me if I’m wrong 👻🤣)
Honestly though, I think I’d start again with a fresh 2023 batch 😉
@@hedgecomber I just made a new batch:D my husband and his sister and I are very curious about the old batch so we might jusr try a little sip🤣🤣
@@hedgecomberupdate it’s looking and smelling just like a blackberry 😂😂❤ I can’t help but try a little drop of it every time just to see how sweet it’s getting and oooohhh boy it’s getting syrupy sweet 😋✨
Amazing! You’re making me want to try leaving a batch for 3 years now LL! 🤣 Enjoy!
Why do you have to add sugar? What does the sugar do?
Goodday reader. How much sugar and vodka did you add. I couldn't hear the measurements, Cobus🐳

Drinkable.
I made this with cheap vodka and have two different bottles and managed to drink it for a taste with no mix in. It was very smooth and tooooo easily
