I want a miracle in the form of a face to face appointment with my GP but I think this is on the not do-able list.

I don't want or need Social Proscibing. All I want is someone to tell me the result of my last blood test. I missed their call to me as I was at work so they've booked another phone call 6 weeks later. Why don't they write a letter. Its all time consuming with no results.

A little hint a pathology nurse gave me: if you want a copy of your results simply write your name and mailing address in the 'copy reports to' section of your pathology request slip. Some (not all) pathology providers may have an additional release form which you can get from the pathology nurse, sign, date and give to the nurse when presenting for bloods the next time. Generally speaking, you never want to hear from a doctor😂 No news is good news.

social prescribing gives patient more control over their healthcare and manage their needs in a way that suits them. It often starts with a conversation, they listen to you and put you in touch with whatever you need to make you feel better, it could be legal advice, information about local resources. It is shown that those with social prescriptions feel better.

Ironically, this sounds very 'New Amsterdam', but I guess that's fiction. I like the idea of community groups, but they're thin on the ground in my area...

Is this where they try to brow beat you into doing things that you don't want to do so that they don't have to give you the medical care you require? And volunteering? Most people who need to see their doctor regularly have long term medical conditions that mean they aren't even fit for work, but you can exploit them by making them do stuff they don't get paid for? People don't need their GP to give them ideas for hobbies - they can decide for themselves.

This approach is not meant to be a substitution to medical treatment but rather provide a complementary holistic care of patients in need , as health conditions are often a result of the interplay of economic, social psychology AND biological factors. Tackling health conditions on every front is much more effective than just giving medical treatment.

Just about what I thought, mate. A lot of mentally ill people won't great proper support to engage and continue to engage with proposed or suggested activities. If it goes wrong for them it go wrong big time.

The Prescribers are out of their depth working without medical support and backup when dealing with people with long-term mental health problems.

@@philgee7249 Yes, there are some important issues to consider, as several posters have pointed out. What isn't explained in this video (which is just a brief intro) is the detailed planning and preparation for every group. In the network I lead, all music leaders are qualified teachers or adult tutors, specialising in supporting people with ESOL, mental health conditions etc. We work with medics and with bodies such as the Probation Service, Alzheimers Society and Parkinsons UK who check that we have insurance, DBS clearance, and up-to-date knowledge of accessibility legislation, GDPR and so on. Nobody is 'made' to do anything, or given ideas they could come up with for themselves, as CraftyHobbit asserts. The people who benefit have often been denied the free choice that able-bodied people take for granted, for many reasons, and with a little support can find their own creativity.

@@annhinchliffe8314 Nobody is 'made' to do anything..... well no, but there's such a thing as subtle coercion which many people with mental health difficulties, or autistic folk, will usually agree to something which they actually want to say no to, or need time to process what is being offered. Not everyone craves social interaction. For many, socialising increases anxiety and panic. Some have also been so very badly traumatised by the NHS, social services, councils, and other government-run charities, that they no longer trust any so-called 'professional'. I think it's time the NHS and local authorities stopped trying to parent us, as if you know us better than we know ourselves. You don't. What's needed is proper housing, decent housing without mould, local authorities speaking to us as equals, decent wages and an NHS who provide good health care, instead of fobbing us off or misdiagnosing us. Many suffer from poverty-related stress. Many of us have been re-traumatised by the mental health system or medical doctor negligence. I do wish the NHS would stop telling us what they believe is best for us. Leave us alone. We know what we like, what we dislike, who are tribe are, and what is good for us. You're behaving like authoritarians. Just stop.
