  • The M/V Robert L. Posey passing the Memphis Riverfront on a sunny but cold morning. The passing northbound towboat was the M/V Bob Stith. Ends with a view of the Memphis River walk park. Memphis is a very cool city and the BBQ was great!
40 barges carrying a total of 40,000 tons of cargo and the equivalent of 10 freight trains with 100 cars each. A tow of that size would comprise nearly 6 acres in area

Another great video. You did a great job of catching the Memphis skyline and that huge Robert L. Posey. Thanks for putting it up for us to view.

Man thats a big ole slab. Graduated college in Memphis in the late 80s. Tom Lee Park was always a lot of fun during Memphis in May.

Just to have a house with the river along the back would be awesome. Sit with a cold one, and the grill going, with this as a back drop and just watch these beasts at work.

Hell I thought after Oil Transport buckled, and us Philadelphia Mississippi River boat boys ,[yes BOYS too green to be rivermen] and we got a Job with Flowers Transportation out of Greenville Mississippi we were in tall cotton! Till one day Mr. Flowers called a few of us, he had a dream of the largest tow to make the Mississippi! As I said we were in TALL COTTON, I THOUGHT! We brought 72 barges [EMPTY BARGER, GOING UPSTREAM!} Now I had my operators License, but was working as 1st watch Deck Mate, as did my counterpart, He also had his operators license, and we both had had some wheel house time steering, and Robert was working Deck Mate Aft Watch! and we made the run and helt the record, 72 barges...... ONLY EMPTY UP STREAM! well Robert and I both got into the wheel house, and about 11 mounts later, My wife and I had a baby daughter, well the first time I helt that baby girl, i knew it would be hard for me to leave her for 30 days! I went back to the boat foe around 2 weeks then I QUIT! My Father was a River Boat Capt. all his life, to me he was special and I wanted to be just like him, Captain Winford Burkes! Till I helt that baby girl! Went home for good. And yes I did alright, but the best friends I ever had in my life was friends I made working on the boats! "OH, BY THE WAY, THAT ROBERT THAT WORKED AS MY COUNTER PART ON THE MISS KAE-D WAS ROBERT L. POSEY, YES THE SAME THAT HAD THIS RIVERBOAT NAMED SFTER HIM!

Good video, nice tug. I noticed 3 exhaust pipes, how many engines, brand and hp rating of each? And is there ever a time when you might use only one engine in your travels? I am amazed at how these tows make it up and down our water ways. Thanks for your sharing your time and life with us.

Just looked up the size of an Aircraft Carrier flight deck, 1,092' by 252'. This tow should just at 1,000' by 280', then add another 190' for the boat. AND it's about to slip between bridge columns. That's EXTREME!!!

The posey and the caligan worked on both and 2 of the hardest boats to work since they r strut aft boats which means the wheels come out forwards instead of aft

Ja... Unglaublich.
