Rookie went to pet the thing right by the barb before you warned him haha. Nice catch here in the gulf they cut the barbs. I haven’t done this personally but any ray I’ve caught has had it’s barb cut off already.

Rays use barbs as self-defense. Don't cut them off. Yes, they do grow back. But, release them unharmed. Catch and Release! 👍
