This rattle IS normal for a SB DD clutch. Your throwout bearing will warn you that it’s about to fail. You’ll hear a ticking noise that slows down when pressing the clutch as you’re rolling to a stop. I caught mine before it let go,…all it cost me was labor and a new bearing.
Throughout bearing is a little on the louder side. I've got a sb dd on a 12' g56, just replaced the throughout bearing and idler bearing, new mid plate plastic bushings. Way quieter now, had about 50k on sb before new bearings and what not.
Yeah me too 🤦♂️ just dropped my trans put in a new throw out bearing put it back together same exact noise, started googling and read that it was completely normal 🤦♂️
it’s normal but does this chattering sound mean a wearing out of a throw out bearing? is this a sign of improper wear or premature failure? sure it’s a performance part but will it last 100k miles or more if I don’t race my car? I’m hearing this sound from a mk7 GTI Im about to purchase.
My nv5600 rattles like marbles rolling around with clutch out in neutral only when cold, quiets down some when warmed up. Never had a dual disc clutch but was told it’s normal

Heres what we experienced. Install of a reman ZF 6 into a 6.0L with a dual disc SB clutch. Rattling its ass off at an idle. Pulled trans. out and noticed throw out bearing had a metal housing. We slid the bearing into the fork where it rides. The play movement made a rattle noise and when we put a stock bearing with the plastic housing the clearance was less. We installed the stock bearing with the plastic housing and rattle disappeared. So many freaking problems with SB clutches. People thinking it's the transmission and it turns out to be those homemade, ground to worn out status, pieces of shite... Of course you call them and they know of no problems at all. Fuck those SB clutches. Look up a LUK set up. Single disc ceramic/organic.
jspat67 honestly I got the luk cause I ran outta money... it’s so so thin ... but lasted 60,000 miles so far. And I have pulled just about 300,000 lbs 60 miles with it. We also dropped it on install and broke one disk. Ps pedal is like three times easier to push.

Thats just the throw out bearing "warming up". The "rattle" is more clinky and is constant until its warm.

That's what mine sounds like..
Wish I saw this before I tore my whole truck apart for the “bad throwout bearing”. It was a $1500 clutch, surprise.
So the clutch was bad? Or?
