Thanks! This is extremely helpful. The video was clear, to the point and spot on. Five minutes and 25 seconds . . . wow. No fillers, no wasted time. You rock!!
You're welcome!
Dyson told me my Motörhead was just bad. Your fix solved the problem. God bless RUclips!!!! Many thanks
I was beyond frustrated with my Dyson. It's only a year old!!! I'm proud to say thanks to you It's fixed and is working great again.Truly appreciate your videos..👊👍
Cheers for making this video - I had cleaned out the hair along the brush bar so many times, but it was still failing to rotate. It would spin for a half-second, then just stop - a built-in measure meant to stop the brushes from getting things jammed, I imagine.
When I saw in your video that you could remove the twisty plastic part using a T8, I broke out the toolkit and boom: years of hair clogged underneath. Some of it had fused into a semi-solid ring, with a fair amount of disintegrated matter as well. The little metal disc fell out when I pulled the clump free, but it slotted back in nicely. Everything back together and it spun up first time, no issues.
Thanks again - saved us spending on a replacement part, or even a new hoover!
Thank you, for the cost of $10 for the right screwdriver, this fixed the issue for me :)
This is amazing. Did not know that little piece can be removed at 4:10. Pulled out all the hair and it’s spinning stronger than ever. You just saved me hundreds of dollars as I was close to giving up and buying a new one!!
Thank you... Dyson told me the motor burnt up and wanted $225 for a replacement head... It was the last step of the video that fixed my problem...
You are a legend!!! Had a 2nd hand one off my sister but the brush bar didn't work! Cleaned everything after watching one of your video's but after watching this one I now have a brush bar that works........thank you pal! Guys like you probably don't realise the good you do in saving people money by fixing and cleaning they can do with a little help so thanks million 👍
glad to help
Thank you for this video! My vacuum has been malfunctioning for months. I’ve watched other cleaning videos and none of them had me take off the little rotating part inside the bar. That did the trick! Thank you!! Now I don’t have to buy a new vacuum!
Yes that was also our issue. So much hair
are you having problems with your dyson? comment below and I will see if I can help you fix it.
it appears several people above are having the same issue as i am. everything has been cleaned and taken apart but when put back together the brush will not move in the housing. you cannot turn the brush roller with your hand, as if it's locked in place. any advice greatly appreciated
I think I'm having an issue with the contacts because I do not have any issues with either of the brushes that I have with my V8. Suction is still fine but the brushes won't spin
Thank you, I'd been doing everything else in your video bar unscrewing and taking out the black liquorice looking thing. I did that and found a solid circle of hair! Now it works like new, again thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge 👍
glad it helped
I would have never found that bit behind the T8 screw without you. That was the hidden issue for me. Thank you so much for this very helpful video!
Thank you your vid helped sort out problem free of charge ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this. I thought I was going to have to get a new one. This is exactly what the problem was. I couldn’t believe my eyes when the powerhead worked. Thank you 🙏
Even if this Video ist 4 years old, it helped me to fix the problem with my Dyson V6. Thanks Mate!
Thank you so much for this video. It is gold. I knew about getting the hair out of the brush and at the sides but didn't know about removing the bin to check the electrical connections (which I found to be very clean). I also didn't know that the grey twirly bit at the side could be removed. I went and got a screwdriver kit with a T8 head (very helpful that you told us which one!). Lo and behold, tightly coiled hair. I removed it and my Dyson is back to its best. Note: the troubleshooting instructions on the Dyson website don't tell you about this step!
Love my Dyson. I no longer have to spend a few quid on bags. Instead I can waste hours tearing it apart, pulling crap out of places it should never get in the first place and putting It back together. ( the crappy filter which you can only clean by removing the plastic tree, soaking under a tap and leaving to dry in the sun for a day is my favourite.
Thanks to you I finally fixed the problem after several other videos and a series of failed attempts to find the problem.
You saved me from buying a new vaccum I’m eternally grateful! I found a plastic lid stuck in the brush head. Thanks!
Brilliant! You saved me £80 for a new head. Subscribed and liked. Thank you.
Thank you, the brushbar is now spinning, you have saved me buying a new one. Brilliant.
Thanks! Never knew hair could accumulate behind the part the T8 screw holds down. Cleaned and added some silicone grease with PTFE and now everything is working perfect!
Great video. My SV06 brush bar had no current to it. Your opening advice on removing the bin and cleaning the contacts was the answer to the problem. Thankyou
Clearing the connection behind the debris tank was a winner for me. Thank you for your instructions.
I've been struggling to get my Dyson working and after watching this video and a quick flick with a fine paintbrush and it's as good as new. Cheers!
Thank you ! you just saved me from going out and buying another one!!!! Did exactly as directed in your video! There was so much crud inside the joint where the brush was just like your video! Now!!!!! Its like I have a new Dyson! To get the right tools for the job I bought them on Amazon! Cheers to you!
you are welcome
Wish i watched this before i took the whole thing apart lol. Worked like a charm, thanks for the video.
I was going to throw mine out, but these handheld vacuums are impossible to find and I love mine! with your video I was able to fix my vacuum, so thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Brilliant video, short and to the point. The contacts at 0:48, covered in dust,
was the problem with mine. Works like new again. Thank you, thank you.
Thank you! I knew I had to clean under the mechanism that makes the roller turn and couldn’t figure out how to get down there! You just saved me so much money! ❤😊
thanks for that! my bearing was all blocked up, even under the bearing cover! i cleaned it all up like you instructed and now it spins
Thanks Bro! You saved me from buying a new vacuum......I never thought hair could get caught behind the spindle! I would just add a bit of lubricant before reattaching the spindle
Just watched this video and worked perfectly. The amount of hair behind the screw was incredible. Thanks a lot 👍🏻
glad it helped.
Me too! Who knew my Dyson could come apart like that for cleaning! Many thanks
The tiny hex screw changed my life. Thank you!
Thank you, went through a bunch of videos before finding this one and it finally worked!
Thanks so much. This happened to me this afternoon and I was worried it had finally given up. Dust in the connections was exactly the issue.
thankyou thankyou thankyou!!! removing the bit with the bar via hidden screw solved for me! saved me some cash, brilliant help!!!
Wow this was so simple but I had no idea where to look! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Thanks a lot man! One expensive replacement battery later my old v6 was still pulsing with the brushbar stopping after a few seconds of use. This ‘little T8 screw’ trick did the job! ;) took that spiral drive thing out and removed all crap from underneath it and bam! All sorted. Old battery is still going strong. No harm in having a spare battery I guess😂
Brilliant thanks, just used this to fix a free old non working Dyson that I’d been given which will now be my car vacuum
thanks! Especially for mentioning the size of the torx screw as it was very snug and if I had used the wrong sized screw I would have striped it.
Fixed my brush bar in a jiff.
Thank you. It gave me the idea of spraying some switch cleaner on the contacts along the way. Let it dry. Attached, detached each point a couple of times and problem solved.
Excellent video! I'd been through the brush cleaning, the connectors on top and bottom of the tube but never knew about the connectors on the dust container. Thanks for the post.
Great video. I knew about the hair being trapped in the head.
But I didn’t know about taking the filter apart and checking the dust on the electrical connection.
I cleaned the connection and dust. Now all working 😊
Thank you, you just saved me about £60 for a new rotating head. Donated! BTW on mine the screw in the rotating end is a very small star not a torx.
EDIT: My mistake star and torx are the same thing
thank you so much, your welcome
Thanks. Worked like a charm. There was less debris in mine, but it was the cause.
My guy you saved me an assload of money, no replacement dyson for me! Thanks so much, take a like and sub :)
WATCH THESE VIDEOS TO SAVE $$ AND HEADACHES!!
THANK YOU for this video. I love my Dyson V6 but the bar stopped spinning, and I knew the problem was within the rotor piece itself after trying everything else. Though I love Dyson's products and step-by-step help on the website, their phone/chat/email (I tried them all unfortunately) customer service was tedious, frustrating, and ultimately not helpful. Their solution was that I "needed" to buy a $200 replacement motorhead. At first they told me I simply needed to replace the brush itself which I had to argue--literally the man got testy with me for questioning this--was not the solution. After finally convincing them the motorhead was the issue and some further frustrations, they offered me 50% off the motorhead--still $100!!!! I finally decided to dig deeper into just fixing it myself and stumbled across your wonderful video. I even had some Torx screwdrivers on hand surprisingly. The Dyson parts can be difficult/scary to pull apart, but fixing the motorhead was relatively easy and my sincerest thanks for solving an issue (for FREE) which Dyson's customer service could not. Bravo!
I'm so glad that it helped. such a simple repair when you know how.
FYI: had to use a little WD40 on the rotor as well for anyone who's still having issues after cleaning!
Thanks bro!! Worked a treat. Except I added a little grease to the bearing as it still clogged/stopped spinning. After a touch of grease on the bearing seems to be working okay. Time will tell 😊
Thank you, took it apart still wouldn’t go until I found this video.
You saved me a new replacement. Did as you showed and it fixed the spinning issue. Thanks!
Brilliant thanks for sharing your experience, my V6 roller stopped working and when I stopped it down the roller connection was solid and didn't have hope to fix but I followership your video and like you showed us the cause was hair (dog hair) matted it was so bad that I had to remove the motor and belt and then carefully knock the roller drive out after removing the screw and plastic twisted drive of coarse, ,then all of a sudden after removing more matted hair the drive was free running, assembled it back ,and now works like new, I didn't have much hope as using a multimeter I could not get any voltage at all when testing beforehand ? But it works now,
so glad it helped you out and kept another dyson from land fill.
thank you so much it is reeellly help me to fix my dyson be for I don’t know what should I do to fix it and I get sad until I check Google and I see this nice video which is helping me so much appreciate that Sir 🥰🌺
Brilliant. Hair under the brush roller drive worm gear, luckily I had a multi head mini Torx screwdriver. Many many many thanks. 😊😊😊
Thanks to your guidance, wife happy ….hoover working like a rolls Royce again …wheel spinning better than ever ..top job .. 👍
Great video, just about to buy a new one and you saved me a few hundred pounds👍🏼
All fixed thanks to your video
Thanks mate, very helpful. Managed to get the MIL's one fixed with this guide!
Thanks, the hair behind the rotating spindle on mine was actually part fused together by heat from friction so looked like a real fibre washer! I wouldn't have brave enough to pull the spindle off without this video..btw got away with a small regular Poundland screwdriver v proper torx :-)
Great video. I cleaned the contacts and solved the problem completely. Thanks so much
Excellent, never knew about that second filter. My V6 brush bar stopped spinning on the opposite end to the motor, and the motor jet spinning the other end. Now that pin is stuck in the end cap. The plastic it sat in git all chewed up.
Amazing video!!! Thanks for all the tips.
Removed all the hair (LOTS of it) and cleaned all the electrical connections. Unfortunately, the thing is still not spinning :(
Would you know how I would be able to test if the electrical connectors are actually sending some energy? Maybe with a multimeter or something.
many thanks for this. Much appreciated. All the best 🙂
Thanks mate the contact points getting a clean fixed it for me
You are the man🤩🤩🤩👍😄 about to get a new hover not now fixed it with your help works like new nowThank you.
Do you have a video on a clutch replacement for the v8? I have a new bin, new wand, and new brush head. I’m getting voltage at the vacuum with and without the wand but I have three brush heads and none of them spin
What’s the matter with me?! I’ve always tinkered with tech - especially Dysons. Turning mid-40s I realise now I’m becoming very lazy and I was nearly going to buy another Dyson when THIS is all I need to do. Many thanks.
Thanks for this tutorial it saved me so much money 🤑
Brilliant. I had cleaned everything else up yet the head wouldn't turn. Sure enough there was impacted garbage behind the chingalera. Thank you so much!
You have saved me buying a new vacuum, thank you 🥳x
You’re welcome 😊
Great video. Worked for me. Very easy. Love these fixit yourself vids.
Hi Got the thing apart, great, but no voltage at the two terminals that are exposed on the motor head, any ideas ?
You have saved me from buying a new one. Many thanks.
My ocd kicked in when you didnt remove all the hair off the brush roll😂
😹😹😹
I knew there would be hair behind the big screw. Thanks for showing how to remove
How has this not had more views? I did have to buy the special screwdrivers but made my wife happy. It was her hair that clogged it up though!
Thank you! Cleaning the contacts worked for me.
Wow excellent video, my Dyson is back to 💯 percent, you deserve 5 🌟 thanks for sharing.
Excellent , I got it working again by watching your video.
Hello I've followed all steps and gave a very good clean but still not spinning, any idears?
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a v7 motor head, I followed all the steps and the brush still isn't spinning, do you think there is anything I missed? All the parts were relevantly clean.
the v7 head is the same as the v8 v10 and v11 try putting it on without the wand make sure the connections are clean around the dust bin, try removing the brush bar and see if the motor spins in the head or makes a noise at all. it's hard to say without looking at it.
My belt has snapped in the motor housing… can you tell me which belt I need to replace it please?
Thank you
This is so helpful!!! Saved me the money to buy a new one.
Thank you👍🏻 T8 screwdriver ordered. 🤞hope it does the trick.
That second clog of hair *inside* the inner end of the brush bar mechanism housing, necessitating taking the whole thing apart with a screwdriver - is a major, major design flaw.
It should come with that skinny screw driver
It is indeed! I couldn’t get the screw out, but by dint of a flat screwdriver, tweezers, nail-scissors and patience (plus a lot of sweary words) I got enough compacted cat-hair out to get the brush-bar turning again. At least I now know to add doing that regularly to my routine brush-bar maintenance!
i have a V8 and its not like this... the roller comes out, but the inside part of the roller on your video does not come out w my roller
i have that style of brush bar ready to do a video on when I get a chance.
should be up in the next week.
I took the little black piece off that holds the brush and pulled some hair out, but it still won't spin at all it's completely seized. Do you know how to fix this?
watch my latest video showing how to clean the v6, I pull the motor head completely to bits. that will hopefully show you what you need to get your one working again.
Fantastic, the motor gear was full of hair 🤮 but it’s all good now thanks to you!
thankyou thankyou thankyou😘 my little v6 is now working perfectly🥰
You’re a genius!!!! Thank you so much for solving the problem! Your explanation is fantastic 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
pulling out that last bit fixed it for me. Thanks
so glad you found it helpful.
Hi and great video. Pulled mine apart and the black brushbar connector which is held in with the T8 screw came out along with the brushbar! The hair and friction i am guessing has caused the piece to snap. Can you replace these or do you need a new powerhead? Thanks
FABULOUS! just Fab. Thank you fixed. I wonder if you have a fix on the other problem I have? When I press the boost button the machine only works for 1 second then asks me to charge but when I put it on the charger it is charged. Could it be an overheating thing?
try watching my other videos they might help you.
thanks for this video. extremely helpful
Awesome, worked like a charm. Thanks for making this video!
Ours V8 has a broken white wire in the swivel joint. There was some lint too, but it will take some rewiring to fix it.
Thank you so much, works perfectly again 🙂
What if it still not working properly, can the little motor or belt be replaced that drives the brush bar?
The part you're removing at 2:49 in the video - that black helical looking part - mine is broken on one end and I have no idea how I'm going to fix it. I tried wrapping some tape around it to make it fit but that didn't work. I thoroughly cleaned all the debris and hair and dirt from my assembly but it didn't fix it. I believe it's this broken part that needs replaced but Dyson doesn't sell this by itself. I tried searching for the part number which is molded into the round side of the part "12-7460" and I cannot find one anywhere. I don't know what the part is called either to search. Any advice or tips?
probably best to pick up one second hand from Facebook or ebay and just use the new head on your existing dyson.
Thanks for the instructions. It worked!
