Cheers for making this video - I had cleaned out the hair along the brush bar so many times, but it was still failing to rotate. It would spin for a half-second, then just stop - a built-in measure meant to stop the brushes from getting things jammed, I imagine.
When I saw in your video that you could remove the twisty plastic part using a T8, I broke out the toolkit and boom: years of hair clogged underneath. Some of it had fused into a semi-solid ring, with a fair amount of disintegrated matter as well. The little metal disc fell out when I pulled the clump free, but it slotted back in nicely. Everything back together and it spun up first time, no issues.
Thanks again - saved us spending on a replacement part, or even a new hoover!

Thank you so much for this video. It is gold. I knew about getting the hair out of the brush and at the sides but didn't know about removing the bin to check the electrical connections (which I found to be very clean). I also didn't know that the grey twirly bit at the side could be removed. I went and got a screwdriver kit with a T8 head (very helpful that you told us which one!). Lo and behold, tightly coiled hair. I removed it and my Dyson is back to its best. Note: the troubleshooting instructions on the Dyson website don't tell you about this step!

Love my Dyson. I no longer have to spend a few quid on bags. Instead I can waste hours tearing it apart, pulling crap out of places it should never get in the first place and putting It back together. ( the crappy filter which you can only clean by removing the plastic tree, soaking under a tap and leaving to dry in the sun for a day is my favourite.

WATCH THESE VIDEOS TO SAVE $$ AND HEADACHES!!
THANK YOU for this video. I love my Dyson V6 but the bar stopped spinning, and I knew the problem was within the rotor piece itself after trying everything else. Though I love Dyson's products and step-by-step help on the website, their phone/chat/email (I tried them all unfortunately) customer service was tedious, frustrating, and ultimately not helpful. Their solution was that I "needed" to buy a $200 replacement motorhead. At first they told me I simply needed to replace the brush itself which I had to argue--literally the man got testy with me for questioning this--was not the solution. After finally convincing them the motorhead was the issue and some further frustrations, they offered me 50% off the motorhead--still $100!!!! I finally decided to dig deeper into just fixing it myself and stumbled across your wonderful video. I even had some Torx screwdrivers on hand surprisingly. The Dyson parts can be difficult/scary to pull apart, but fixing the motorhead was relatively easy and my sincerest thanks for solving an issue (for FREE) which Dyson's customer service could not. Bravo!

Brilliant thanks for sharing your experience, my V6 roller stopped working and when I stopped it down the roller connection was solid and didn't have hope to fix but I followership your video and like you showed us the cause was hair (dog hair) matted it was so bad that I had to remove the motor and belt and then carefully knock the roller drive out after removing the screw and plastic twisted drive of coarse, ,then all of a sudden after removing more matted hair the drive was free running, assembled it back ,and now works like new, I didn't have much hope as using a multimeter I could not get any voltage at all when testing beforehand ? But it works now,

I couldn’t get the screw out, but by dint of a flat screwdriver, tweezers, nail-scissors and patience (plus a lot of sweary words) I got enough compacted cat-hair out to get the brush-bar turning again. At least I now know to add doing that regularly to my routine brush-bar maintenance!

The part you're removing at 2:49 in the video - that black helical looking part - mine is broken on one end and I have no idea how I'm going to fix it. I tried wrapping some tape around it to make it fit but that didn't work. I thoroughly cleaned all the debris and hair and dirt from my assembly but it didn't fix it. I believe it's this broken part that needs replaced but Dyson doesn't sell this by itself. I tried searching for the part number which is molded into the round side of the part "12-7460" and I cannot find one anywhere. I don't know what the part is called either to search. Any advice or tips?

probably best to pick up one second hand from Facebook or ebay and just use the new head on your existing dyson.
