Karl Gnass has been one of the best drawing teachers in L. A since at least the 1990s when I had him. He's trained several generations of animators

Eliminates the "magic" of drawing by deconstruction, analysis, reconstruction. Brings the disciplines of logic and reason and indeed science to the subject. Of course he has marvelous line and pressure control and anatomical knowledge wrought by years of experience.
I learned a lot - particularly how much I don't know and need to know and of course how much more I need observe and practice, observe and practice,...

Karl is brilliant. He understands the shape, volume, and energy of the pose, notice how he doesn't copy, he reinvents, and the result is a beautiful organic representation of his reference, and not a Xeroxed flat.

This presentation reveals the most clear understanding of light: Specific spot, diffuse and conceptual so that the artist with this very clear understanding can make shadows in a drawing conveying form, a sense of structure and with great skill dramatic expressions in light.

These demos are worth their weight in gold..and thank you..are free. I have just viewed the first four and would love to see the out takes just before you manage to get 'serious' in front of the camera. I know we are missing a lot of fun. How about it?

    Dear Karl,
    Thank you for these videos.
Your head drawing book is amazing to. Thank you.
If possible kindly make a short clip for you tube channel in which you explain / show your process of head drawing. It will be a great help for us students who only have your book.
Best of luck for the coming days. Thanx
