Experts slugfest: Our first 2024 Emmy nominations predictions

- Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng make their first Emmy nominations predictions of this unpredictable season. Well, outside of "The Bear" basically. Can the reigning Best Comedy Series champ go 7/7 this time? Or will Jean Smart hold off Ayo Edebiri in Best Comedy Actress? With massive turnover in drama, there are lots of spots up for grabs. "The Crown" and "The Morning Show" feel safe to nab series nominations, but will either win? And is "Shōgun" the one to beat in limited series?

Of course, people are watching ! You are both fantastic.
I hope Fargo gets some love somewhere this season because Christoper you are right … Juno and Sam are great 👍
Danai gurira should get nominated for lead actress drama. She also wrote an episode for The Ones Who Live. If she doesn't get nominated for acting, she definitely should for writing..
Rooting for Fargo! My favorite show of the season! Juno, Sam, Jennifer, Jon, and Joe are great!
Once again, I was tired and fell asleep while listening to Gold Derby, Christopher and Joyce entered my dream, which often happens when something is playing while i'm sleeping, and I was making emmy predictions with them while we were eating take out, it was great!
What was the takeout?
I don't remember, I just remember us eating fries, and me mentioning Cameron Manheim when the subject of Elvis came up.@@chrisjrosen
I think you are really underestimating Shogun. If Anna Sawai doesn’t get nominated, I will be shocked.
I also think Tadanobu Asano will get nominated in supporting.
Watching Ripley, Andrew Scott is just so creepy in the series. Love the black and white
really hoping emma can come in for a surprise win here because the skill and complexity in that performance should make her a no-brainer for a win going on merit but it's a deeply unsettling show and for intentional, good reason: interrogating performative white liberalism in an unsympathetic, absurdist, and cringe-inducing (also meant in a good way here fashion, but this severely drives down viewership and to the tune of 'may december,' i have a feeling an industry ridden with those of the variety the show aims to criticizes isn't going to sit well with many of them.
I could see Manhunt being a big contender in the limited series categories because it's based on true events, and it's on Apple TV+
Joyce opened the can of worms for having an Outstanding Heart and Soul in a Series category 😂
im here girl
Joyce is a Vibe.
Also, Chris is a Vibe.
Chris: this one is from dobby, a Harry Potter reference Joyce
Joyce: 😑
What are the chances for Mary & George series from STARZ in the Emmy's? The released critics review were great but I'm curious about their chances in the Emmy's especially in the limited categories, obviously I'm hoping for some nominations.
What about Shogun?
We love Shogun!
I love the Emmy’s!!!
Do you think House of the Dragon will get more love this year without Succession and Better Call Saúl now.
It's premiering in June and the cut off date for this year's entries is end of May, so it'll be eligible for next year's Emmys
Alex Sharp, 3 Body Problem....
The Bear is a nice show....but 4 nominees in the same category...is obnoxious. There should be a limit per category.

I have not beeen The Gentlemen and will not because I hated the movie and hate Guy Richie in general. But it's not surprising if they're doing Succession/Kendall Roy references, since Jeremy Strong was in the movie.
I hope The Regime sneaks into Limited Series as it’s a beautiful production and entertaining romp with a bonkers lead performance from Kate Winslet. True Detective: Night Country was absolutely compelling, so I am rooting for it in all categories, especially for Jodie and Kali. I can’t wait for The Sympathizer as I’ve been extremely intrigued since it was announced that A24, HBO, and RDJ would produce the series. I’m all in on HBO returning to the winner circle for Limited Series category after its absence in this category last Emmy cycle.
Ahsoka was just okay. Andor was far superior. It's exasperating seeing voters just default to SW when Strange New Worlds is right there pulling off their 'Once More With Feeling' ep. TV Academy voters just go 'neeeeerds' about Trek. The Emmy producers didn't even give it a montage for its 50th anniversary, and TOS got nominated for drama series back in the day. A montage and a couple TOS actors coming out to present is apparently impossible.
PS. I got into Fargo recently, and knowing they don't really care about it is infuriating.
I’m wondering why they are both so dismissive of Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey from Fellow Travelers?
Showtime shows have not fared well with Emmy voters in recent history, so that's why I'm reticent to predict them -- and I think they're being overpredicted right now because everyone loves them irl (me included!).
