It's worth saving. They don't make 'em like that anymore and it's a Toyota in the end. Engine will survive us all. But yes, welding it is...
All jap cars are the same, I always replaced with 1.2mm steel
I had a blue T-Sport as my first car. £2300 on insurance, flip out stereo and a £900 Megan Racing exhaust imported from Japan. Fast and Furious had a lot to answer for but what a car!
Save it James. They are brilliant and resilient wee cars. RO02YSK was my old one.
how old where u when u insured it? was thinking of getting one for my first
You're right about the alloys. 1998 to 2001 mk2 MX-5 1.8iS alloys. They were then used on the mk2.5 1.8i standard trim between 2001 and 2005.
Had loads of that shape yaris mate always been very popular, hardly any problems even with 200k plus
Lovely find. Might be a replacement for the Camry of you want another project car for a raffle. Great entertainment too, whatever logic says 😀😀👍👍
Worth saving. I have one of a similar age, although fewer miles, and it's a brilliant little runabout and ideal first driver car!
Definitely worth saving, I loved mine, thought at first it was my old one lol. But they are great fun to drive.
Because of the short wheelbase the ride is only so-so on the stiffened springs. My wife had one from new. When it was a couple of years old I fitted TRD springs all round. Turned it into a little missile. It handled beautifully on the twisty bits and looked so much better with its lowered stance. When she traded it in one of the salesmen bought it for his wife.
Funny how Toyotas still sell even at that age, I’m currently in the process of saving a 2001 RAV4, but rust just isn’t an issue here in WA. Also have to point out the services done on that Yaris in my home town, Stalybridge! I’m fact my Daughters fiancé used to work at that garage until it closed down a few years ago.
Put it up on your ramp and do a few evenings welding, it'll either work out and be a nice drink for you or put you off buying old scrungers that need welding, I'm doing some welding on an Mx5, 02 tho.
Hi James, that yarris is an interesting car, im glad you did a driving video of it.
Had one of these in the mid nineties i will bet this will look great when you have finished with it.
If I was looking for an old cheapy, this would be just the sort of thing I would look for. Floor mats are ace.
My mate had a grey 'T-Pot', cracking little cars, closest gear ratios ever😂 and no they are not the T-Sport alloys👍The only thing I didn't like was the seats, you felt like you were sitting on the car rather than in it, other than that, a fun little car🙂 Fun fact: T-Sports were all Japanese Vitz RS's converted for the UK. None were manufactured in France like the standard Yaris.
Might be why the rust gets a grip, less corrosion protection on Japanese market cars.
Lovely Jubbly, definitely worth saving. I don't think anyone big has ever owned it, I've seen interiors with half that miles and less more worn than than.
miss my old yaris, great city car and would love another, deffo save as future classic
Brings back memories. I used to win many credits tuning my Yaris to death and spending ages winning races hundreds of times in the Sunday Cup of Gran Turismo 2, when I had my Sony PS One.
From the general feedback here ,I would say a qualified yes save it. The deciding factor I would imagine will be the welding. As you have mentioned before the price of second hand stock through the auctions it might make you a wee bit of decent margin. It will be interesting how it pans out.
It's worth saving, looks a fun little thing,be interesting to see how it does at mot.
This car's done very well to last as long as it has. Toyota paint is very soft and would polish up very nicely without effort. The interior would come up like new with a good valet. The front bumper removal/refitting would have occurred when it was quite new, hence no recording on the checks.
Serviced at a garage in Stalybridge - in Matt of High Peak's area
Decent little cars it's a fun little car for round town and a little fun round the lanes
Yes deffo save it, love your gift of understatement "nippy" looks like it fly's
Great content as always. love your interest in little hot hatches - With your small car expertise, can you keep an eye out for a charade GTTi?
Had one of those Charades. Still possibly the best little car I've driven. Had the longest ariel in existence! There's less than 100 left I believe
@@hughesy606 It's the one itch I really need to scratch regarding 90's hot hatches - The fastest car I have ever seen was one of those pullin gaway from the dartford toll booths - pulled wheelspins in nearly every gear and if it didn't have the word 'charade' written up the side we wouldn't of known what it was....
@@ChishanFipz it came with Dunlop SPs as standard fit and it understeered like anything. I used to commute to London in it when I was young, working nights. Every now and then I'd catch a Renault 5 GT Turbo down Holloway Road and we'd race each other between each set of lights. I always won!
Hi James, I have brand new grooved and drilled discs front and rear plus pads, problem would be the postage due to weight. Regards, Peter (Fiat Coupe fan).
Beginner classic car in 3 years James. Great vlog.glen.
We had one of these, a 53 plate, had it was 48k to 160k and it was amazing - well worth saving
some times its worth saving when u base it on smiles per gallon
thankyou James,,,its a keeper for sure,,,itll make excellent content and im sure you,ll still make a tidy profit,👍👍
Hello James, well, the test drive seemed alright, the only thought(s) I have is the previous MOT fails, and the sight of the rusting / corrosion on the underside? Can you make even money - £1500 with the work carried out and an MOT pass? Best wishes from Lincolnshire.
It a bit grotty in all the usual Yaris areas. But its well worth a save and definitely in the right colour - a service fresh brakes and a tickle with the mig and it make a great car.
Owned a 2004 Vitz RS here in NZ. To call it an RS was a real stretch as it had the 1.3 engine and an autobox. Had alloys and boy racer stipes but the performance was the same as a standard 1.3 so not even warm. Great wee car though.
Hi James I don’t think there will be much life left in that one without spending a fortune so i would reject this one mate as you no who ever buys it will keep bringing it back with every issue cause of its age and keep up the great videos 😅
Agree, worth doing up if money was no object & to keep for future.
I was thinking exactly the same , once you get serious corrosion around suspension mounting points it's game over . It's 22 years old so it's done it's job .
Definitely worth saving. Yaris's are indestructible. And hold their price
Unless you drive them on UK roads in the winter.
Yes James definitely worth saving….modern classic 🙏🏻
It's worth saving. Not sure it's business sense though. Really enjoy the videos. 👍
Thanks 👍
Save it! Looking forward to the update.
Be interesting to see how this goes
You will make the correct decision I am sure. Got my raffle tickets and great charity. 👍👍👍👍👍
I feel that this isn't worth saving, you'll never get a decent return for the amount of work required to bring it up to your usual standard, in any case who wants to buy a welded up car at the price you need to sell it for
Was thinking the same thing mx5 mk2 wheels sunds like it may have a little blow in the exhaust
I have one typical rust areas wire brush waxing.
Gd strong engines do yr magic on it
Definitely worth saving James but don’t overdo the preparation of it!
One of those cars that's worth more than it's value.
Custom Westminster carpet mats. Class James. 🤣🤣🤣
Just bought a 2009 Honda jazz cheap run around, few battle scars but drives great. What’s your opinion on the older jazz ?
I wouldn't go near it unless the sub frame was done, even then its a grand car at best.
I turned down a really nice mini countryman diesel because it had a manky rear sub frame, even at 850 it wasn't worth it.
Yes worth the troubles as it is a very lovely model of Toyota. Wish l still had mine..
Decent carpets from the Axminster auto range.
Keep it,future classics
Different springs fitted when the arrive in the uk
Save it! Long live the combustion engine need to keep all the older motors going!
Probably would never be able to find one as old and rare but the early 80's daihatsu charade 1l turbo.bonkers car for its time. If i remember correct slightly faster 0-60 time than the 2l astra gte
Think they was 99bhp
The VW up gti looks like fun aswell
That. Would be a great car for home built, imagine what they would do with that as look what they did with your old micra!
Definitely worth saving!
1:08 chassis wise, compared to standard car the T Sport got:
-20mm lower ride height
-Different shocks
-Extra bodyshell stiffening
-A stiffer front anti roll bar
-Wider tyres
-20mm bigger front discs
-Rear discs instead of drums
Oh cheers for info
TSport has a different front cross member and wishbones with larger bushings than the other models. The steering rack on the phase 2 has a higher ratio than the standard cars. The front discs are larger too.
A fun little car. Go for it.
Those sill covers could be hiding a disaster
Nice little motor James , I like that 👍 SAVE IT
That's the plan!
The mechanicals last well on the Yaris but they rot underneath. Junk it James... You could put at least £700 into this (if not a good bit more) & it's still only going to last someone a year, maybe 2 if they're lucky. I wouldn't give you more than £1200 for it with a year's ticket on it & a quick service.
"It's been looked after and perhaps not thrashed"
"let's take it for a test drive"... Go on James keep thrashing it, at least it has been now 😂
£300 would have been the Price with the spending needed to bring it back. This one will make a great Raffle car like the Camry i would also buy tickets
Nice pub at 13.10 , where is it?
This will do 120 plus. I had 107 out of my 1.0 GLS (in Mexico obviously)
Limiter in 5th at just over 120
send it back its a money pit Mr Chops all its MOTS have been done on a shoe string bare min every time to pass and it looks bad on the floor rotten and the brake pipes look well shot. Its only worth £100 in a crusher wish you the best with this one mate
Brake pipes are cheap you can make you're own and the floor you can weld
Hi mate, where do you find best to advertise? Auto trader, FB or Gumtree?
Hmm??? I think I would scrap it or sell spares or repair 😮💨 does Bristol do a scrapage scheme for Ulez???
I wouldn't have bothered with the Yaris James , but you know best .....hopefully . Bought my raffle tickets for the Camry but guessing I'll have the same luck as I had with the taxi , ie , none 🤣
I wonder if this is the engine thats fitted to the Mazda 2 sport, its 1.5, and 103bhp, chain driven also
It's not, different engines.
Those carpets are legendary 😀
Lol
Yeah worth saving James worst case scenario I think they’re making 500ish for export 👍 👍
Welding and tidy up underneath would make great you tube content imo 😊
Lovely old car James 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You really need to get hold of a KA sport.....i like that Yaris my sort of small car
One of the best old superminis. Save it. You'll get a decent profit.
That carpet!!!
Repair use as a customer service car depends on how much you want to spend on the vehicle
Save it James
Save the environment and save that car👍👍
Not even worth the bother and the money James, as you said yourself it's a £300 car that you paid £500 for so i think you bought it with your heart and not your head.
What were you saying last week about test driving other people's cars & thrashing em 😉😂😂
🤭LOL
Hate the welding side says to me lots of money it will cost!
I like it. Another car that’s dying out. Well done saving it.
save it. this is what you do Chops
It's nothing that can't be sorted James and it's time for you to learn a great skill welding, trust me when you start rubbing that crusty stuff back you going to get big holes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know it makes no sense but replace the back subframe and put a ball of welding in the mounts - redo the full underside
To most that is financial ruination but in 5 years when the tinworm has the rest taken she will be worth 5 times more. Fix up - Store and then cash in when there is no more !
Original alloys 6 spoke. Good value forgotten hot hatch but this one has too much wrong with it/ not a normal retail punter proposition. Another raffle prize/sell it spares/repairs as a track/donor car?
Nice video , but stay well clear
Save it good to watch
Welding will never end once you start!
Oh it will ended but at what costs lol
Save every time
Hello Mr Chops 👋👋
The mx5 wheels probably its for them being cheaper and lightweight.
Definitely worth saving. It'll make a nice car for a first time driver
They’re not just carpets - they’re magic carpets!
yes
That's a fun little car but I love the Suzuki swift sports ( like the one you have ) ps if you want to sell It let me know please 😊
Rear discs are Donald Ducked !😢😢😢
New discs all round wouldn't be a bad idea
I'm sure lol but unless they absolutely are needed you can't do at this price point
