  • This is my first time kayaking the open ocean, the western coast of Norway. Feeling the energy of the water and hearing the deep rumble instilled a new respect for the ocean. We had a lot of fun this day, but looking back we should have prepared a bit better, just small adjustments. In this video I share my reflections after this first open ocean experience.
The paddling is done in Øygarden (Algrøyna) just west of Bergen (western Norway). Today was a very calm day on the ocean, even though there is always waves and action to be found.
My kayak is a Boreal Baffin P2. It can be civilized when touring and it can be playful when needed. And it can handle a fair bit of abuse.
Some of the video clips may look a bit too hardcore for a first timer, but we were focusing on having fun while staying safe. However, we should have brought a spare paddle as well as a towing line. And if taking it further than a helmet would probably be a good idea.
