Just did the glitterbeard tree yesterday, probably my most memorable moment in gaming, 6 random strangers (plus me and my crew mate) all teary eyed with this beautiful song. Rip glitterbeard you are missed but still remembered by so many.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim I don't agree. Sure, people don't die in our hearts. But that's the whole point of no NPC. In the Sea of Thieves, noone can die. Glitterbeard is the first, and is sorely missed, immortalising him in the way they did was for the best.
Many of my most amazing memories from gaming were had while playing this game. Even when things were a little toxic. This game always was fun to play with a random with a mike. You always felt sad to leave your crew you just met, but you know you will meet another. God I could talk for days about my memory’s with this game

ahoy fellow pirate. wait! dont draw yer sword just yet, i mean yeh no harm. please, i implore yeh to gather round fer a tale. it may not be as old as time, but a grand tale with no doubt. come, come, it wont take long, and if you hear it through, i might just pay for yah grog. ah hah, i knew that might draw yer attention. lets get started then shall we? the tale starts with a simple little lad, a young one that wanted more than what life handed. he was raised well; his father held a respectable position in government, while his mum kept an eye on the boy at home. he was as most are at that age, wanting to explore past the walls and fences that held him up. his mother course, not wanting to deal with whatever trouble the young one might make, made it clear as day that those fences were not to be passed, otherwise consequences would be dealt. obviously, the boy didn't listen, and trouble just so happened to live behind those walls. beyond the walls that towered over the boy, lay a beautiful lake, so vast that the boy though he had arrived at the ocean. he was captivated by it, its watery depths so blue that it struck him in place. it was beautiful. sadly, the moment was not meant to last. the boy was spotted by the owner of the land. fearing the worst, the boy ran back to his home, but the sight of the beautiful sky reflected in those waters never left his mind. he could see it even he closed his eyes. he could see himself riding that large ocean. even as the boy grew, and become a man, the wild dreams of sailing never left his mind. but even dreams that are held close can be slowly forgotten, and like many a man before him, his dreams faded to dust as the new responsibilities of growing called him. skip forward a year or two, the man hears news from an old friend. an undiscovered sea had been found, with rumors of riches on every coast. upon hearing this, the man remembered that clear blue sea that he had seen when he was oh so young, and the desire to master those seas. against the wishes of his loved ones, he joins up with his old companion and decides to sail on a little slope that could barely keep afloat. together, the two men sailed the sea, going on so many adventures u could finish a barrel of grog before youve gotten halfway through most of em. the men quickly become tighter than brothers, always having each other back and making sure the other wasn't lollygagging. but just as the skeleton cant show mercy on the living, the ocean can be quite dangerous. a bad storm there was. worse than anything u could imagine. the sloop was filling up with water fast, so fast that bailing was useless. the only option was to abandon ship. the man wanted to get out as quick as they could, but his companion was greedy. they were carrying a full ship of cargo, they needed to save as much as they can! but the ship was sinking to fast. the man had to get out of there, otherwise the rowboat would sink with it!so the man abandoned his old friend, who was trapped under that ship, drowning with the ship. ... Some days, I wonder if I made the right decision. what if i had just waited a little longer? would he still be here? would we be sitting here, laughing at our troubles and drinking till dawn? Some days I think i should have gone down with him. Ah, well, whats done is done eh? my apologies lad, didnt mean to tell yah such a sorry tale. lets drink eh? to the trails that we have blazed, to the storms that we have braved, to the men we lost, and the friends we gained. Just heard this while doing the Glitterbeard tribute quest. Very touching moment, and amazing to have been able to experienced it randomly after meeting friendly strangers on the servers.

Once again a rare game that doesn't disappoint when it comes to their music. I have been here since the early Super Nintendo Rare games. And Rare never fails to put an amazing song out for all their games. And adding lyrics only makes it better. Rare thank you for the years of gaming, and thank you Sea of Thieves for the amazing moments I've had with my friends.
Rare, I have a story. I just want to say I’ve felt like the wind’s been out of my sails for a really long time. Too long. I’m a Great Lakes pilot/licensed mate, and it’s not the sailing life I’ve always dreamed of. Merchant ships plying over tired old routes from loading ports to unloading ports, stressing over time and delays and bureaucratic company and industry nonsense. There’s no mystery, no adventure, no songs, no joy. I’m like Bilbo from LOTR when he said “I want to see mountains Gandalf. Mountains!” Myself, I pour over charts and spy out islands and lighthouses and port towns I can never explore on these overladen rust buckets. I’m proud of the skills I have as a navigator, because I know if I just had the courage and time, I could go around the world with little more than some charts and a compass. I think finally I can leave this work and set out to live more independently and buy my own little sailboat. I want to go where others can’t, live intently, read and write and sail freely. The wind’s picking up, and this song is one of the few that really fills me with hope and conviction that there’s more to life that’s just ripe for the picking. We all can claim our destiny, to live as legends. To each of you who this strikes a chord for, I would say to you that practicality and conventionality are far too overrated. If you live by them, you’ll find safety, but at the cost of losing your appreciation for safe harbors and sanctuaries from an exciting, riveting world. Don’t let society tie you down. Don’t let the world make you so afraid that you have to plan out the next sixty years of your life so you know what should happen. At best, you’ll get what you plan for, and nothing more. At worst, you’ll only be disappointed, because the life and soul of the world can’t be tamed and felt when it’s subjected to a schedule. You have to go out, unfurl your sails, and let it carry you. I hope you all find the wind in your sails. Stay legendary, friends.
I lost my 11yo dog a week before dogs came to Sea of Thieves. I guess it is kinda bittersweet that I will now have a furry friend to sail the seas with. Edit: thank you for all the kind words! ❤️
I only got into SoT a couples weeks ago, but the moment I listened to this and heard the story behind it, it destroyed me. This is one of the most beautiful tribute songs I’ve ever heard, and seeing the community’s tributes to was heartwarming.
this actually give me chills, it reminds me the start... 2018, when it just came out i was so hyped, the nostalgia this song is bringing even tho it didn't actually exist, but only the shanty melody
Yesterday, me and my friends found a server that ended up with 4 ships in an alliance. One of them joined specifically for the Glitterbeard ritual. It was magical. This song is beautiful. Rest in peace, Glitterbeard. I'm not crying. There are onion cutting ninjas in my room.
Just found out this was posted on the exact same day my dog was put to sleep, and I happened to play this for him on guitar, before we went to the vet. One of the most peaceful songs I can think of.
My grandpa was a sailor. He sailed from when he was 13 to he was 76 yrs old. In total he worked on 55 boats. Sadly, he passed away a week ago. We were very proud of him, and he was very proud of us. Rip Odd-Martin Strand 1.8.1930-9.9.2020 you will be missed ❤️
God damn this is good. Makes me sad, had so much fun playing with my crew. Sadly they all sailed to different seas. I got lonely in my sloop and sailed to different seas myself as well. Thanks for everything SoT.
I did the glitterbeard tribute last night, with an open crew galleon. the first two didn't object or leave when me and my best internet friend told them our objective, and on our way to plunder valley we met a second friendly galleon who agreed. a few skeleton boats, a sinkage, and me single-handedly bringing back our own galleon later, we had managed to all get together on the fourth sunset on the island. you could hear everyone's elation in their voice, when it started, and it was great. me and my friend had been closely following and reading the glitterbeard journals, so it hit a bit harder for us, and we certainly enjoyed all that it had to offer.
Got a 72 hour notice for the premiere of this video..... Absolutely worth every second of the wait. THIS is why I’ve played this game since launch. Thank you for everything you’ve done, Rare!
It’s beautiful that you guys did this song for James he sounds like he would have been an amazing person to be with... all of y’all are in my thoughts and thank you for the many blessings in this flawless creation we call a game! - to the developers of Sea Of Thieves and anyone else who helped bring this to the public, keep your head and away we sail!
Our crew plays this song at the end of every night of sailing as we scuttle, burn, or sail her away into the seas empty of cargo and crew. It is literally a tune I'll always tie to this game and all the fun I've had with it and my friends so far. Here's to more to come!
I have had my dog since I was born. My dad saved it from dying and took it as his pet. It died after a long fight with cancer a year ago. When I will get my dog in game I will name it after her. She saved me from suicide and so many other things. May she Rest In Peace.
@@liammclaren1812 thank you, If you want a follow up I did end up naming the tan fluffy dog princess. It’s my only pet that I always use no matter what, have a great day.
This feels like an anthem for Safer Seas. The lyrics, the end of fights, and the start of fun and peace, is what is possible now. And the video is basically what it feels like to play it. Safer seas didn't kill the game, it saved it
This song always brings a tear to this young sailor’s eyes, forever proud - A fellow Pirate! Hail, to the Sea of Thieves, and long live Athena’s Fortune!
This game makes me miss my dad. We always wanted to buy a pontoon and float on the river. Maybe after the pandemic ends, and more money comes my way, I'll buy one, and upon it's hull, his infamous nickname it shall bear. "The Scotchman." Has a nice ring to it, I think. Just thought I'd share this here. I cried a bit at this. Thanks for the fond memory, Rare! Wind at your backs, friends!
I just hit PL tonight and it’s pretty sad listening to this song, I preordered this game two years ago and I was so exited to play it, I have gained and lost so many friends while playing sea of thieves, it is truly an amazing game, if you recently started you have a lot to look forward to.
I hit Pirate Legend yesterday and frankly I must say, it wasn't so much the glory of achieving it that made me happy. It was journey itself. I remember very fondly an alliance between me and 7 other people, we made big hauls together and vanquished a Skelly Galleon and Megalodon simultaneously! We ended our session in the tavern at Ancient Spire drinking grog and just having a good jolly time. Typing this made me look back at that retrospectively and it feels nostalgic, it was like less than 2 years ago. It's all so amusing, bet they're living their lives as upstanding contributing members of society, good on them. Look at me getting sentimental over people I met over a pirate game, at the end of the day: The Sea binds us, and who knows if I'll see any of them again while playing? Maybe. As long as I have wind in my sails.
Had the great fortune to meet another crew over the weekend who were newer to the game, and were willing to trust another pirate who happened to appear on their ship and ask "would you guys be interested in doing Glitterbeard?" We bonded over the music, the beautiful atmosphere, and our desire for adventure. I have been wanting to experience that moment for more than a year, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Things have been hectic and stressful, and a few people who brought much joy were no longer in my life. But, this song, this experience, reminded me that there is beauty and friendship around every corner. Thank you, Rare, for this glorious memorial that made this grown man nearly bawl his eyes out.
My friend who passed away loved this game. We both played for hours on end and at the end of every session we would burn the boat and play this as it sank ❤️🥺
The game is beautiful but I will never be able to see this with as much beauty as I did when myself on a solo sloop was able to get a brig and a galleon to sail with me to honor james. No graphical update in this game will ever take that moment away from me. We'll never forget
i usually dont cry. but when i met SoT stuff ingame and all from the server did the secret glitter beard stuff at the tree together and the song began to play i cried so much. i love this game! i hope to see so much more content in the future. thank you for everything
I know I'm late but, this always makes me think about the "carry on the legend" quest. The memorial to a good friend of those who made sea of thieves who sadly passed. And each time I hear this it always plucks my heart strings a little 😅
This was always my favorite shanty to play in game because it has so much feeling and wonder, as if looking back on a long journey and remembering all the meetings and fun along the way. Honestly the best when sitting next to a fire at sunset with some friends playing it too.

At worst, you’ll only be disappointed, because the life and soul of the world can’t be tamed and felt when it’s subjected to a schedule. You have to go out, unfurl your sails, and let it carry you.
I hope you all find the wind in your sails. Stay legendary, friends.
I wish more people would see this. This too has been in my heart for an achingly long time.
Legend
You’re a legend, matey. Cheers, it’s on me!
Merci TGR. Les émotions sont là. Sache que l’inondation dans mon immeuble est due à ta vidéo et mes larmes.
Mec tout les français ici sont là grâce a TGR c'est insane

"When we have the wind in our sails" is one of my favorite part of the song RIP Glitterbeard (J.W)
Rest in peace Glitterbeard, we will remember you forever.
Captain my captain you will be missed
(Merci TGR pour m'avoir fait découvrir cet hommage)
James White will be missed. He will live on in our hearts and in the stories we tell of our days on the Sea of Thieves.
I lost my 11yo dog a week before dogs came to Sea of Thieves. I guess it is kinda bittersweet that I will now have a furry friend to sail the seas with.
Edit: thank you for all the kind words! ❤️
Your pupper just got an avatar so they could keep playing with you
I’m sorry for your loss
My friend had the exact same experience! He named his in game dog after his real one.
I’m so sorry man. Best of luck on the seas.
The thought of that happening to my pup brings me close to tears, she is also eleven. Sorry for your loss

I only got into SoT a couples weeks ago, but the moment I listened to this and heard the story behind it, it destroyed me.
This is one of the most beautiful tribute songs I’ve ever heard, and seeing the community’s tributes to was heartwarming.
Rest Easy Glitterbeard! May you live on forever in our hearts and protect our crews!
My bones are ready!
But you're BONELESS
My body is ready
You're the first comment!
RIP James White. May your sails always stand well.
this actually give me chills, it reminds me the start... 2018, when it just came out i was so hyped, the nostalgia this song is bringing even tho it didn't actually exist, but only the shanty melody
Rest in Peace Glitterbeard (JW). Your journey may have ended but your legend lives on.
I love how there have consistently been 20 people waiting for this 😂

(3 years now)
Yesterday, me and my friends found a server that ended up with 4 ships in an alliance.
Becalmed will go down as one of the most underrated songs in video games quite like the game it’s a part of
That’s why i learned it on the piano 🥹
No matter how many hours I put into this game I'll never stop appreciate how beautiful it is 😍
My grandpa was a sailor.
Sorry to hear that, may he sail in peace!
Matrix166 Thank you ❤️
God damn this is good. Makes me sad, had so much fun playing with my crew. Sadly they all sailed to different seas. I got lonely in my sloop and sailed to different seas myself as well. Thanks for everything SoT.
I'm not crying, i just catched a wave in my face...
i would never cry to a frank ocean song, but becalmed. all day
I did the glitterbeard tribute last night, with an open crew galleon. the first two didn't object or leave when me and my best internet friend told them our objective, and on our way to plunder valley we met a second friendly galleon who agreed.
a few skeleton boats, a sinkage, and me single-handedly bringing back our own galleon later, we had managed to all get together on the fourth sunset on the island.
you could hear everyone's elation in their voice, when it started, and it was great. me and my friend had been closely following and reading the glitterbeard journals, so it hit a bit harder for us, and we certainly enjoyed all that it had to offer.
R.I.P James White a.k.a Capt. Glitterbeard.
We love you
Got a 72 hour notice for the premiere of this video.....
Merci Glitterbeard ! Merci Rare et merci theGreatReview
okay....what god or entity is dreaming the Sea of Thieves alive? playing since the open Beta, and this dreamy feeling is still there
Our crew plays this song at the end of every night of sailing as we scuttle, burn, or sail her away into the seas empty of cargo and crew.
Your gonna make me cry man stay safe and never give up May she rest in peace
@@liammclaren1812 thank you, If you want a follow up I did end up naming the tan fluffy dog princess. It’s my only pet that I always use no matter what, have a great day.
Men it was a pleasure sailing with you all
This feels like an anthem for Safer Seas. The lyrics, the end of fights, and the start of fun and peace, is what is possible now. And the video is basically what it feels like to play it.
Safer seas didn't kill the game, it saved it
it killed it in one way but saved it in a better way
This song always brings a tear to this young sailor’s eyes, forever proud - A fellow Pirate!
"The Scotchman."
Has a nice ring to it, I think.
Just thought I'd share this here. I cried a bit at this. Thanks for the fond memory, Rare!
Wind at your backs, friends!
I hope you do it.
I wanna see what maiden voyage Music video will be
this song just brings back so many happy memories, its amazing
This song makes my eyes water..... so beautiful......
Shiver me freakin timbers
You have just made my day
glitterbeard... your legend lives on
This brings a new appreciation to the game. Beautiful
This is, hands down, one of the best songs I've ever heard in a video game. Bless the Sea of Thieves and all you glorious pirates forever.
sea of thieves by far has the BEST soundtrack I've ever heard, it's just so beautiful!
After 3 years of playing I finally did glitter beard this week. It was emotional.
THIS PREMIERS ON MY BIRTHDAY! thanks for the present :)
same! im so excited
Happy Birthday
Happy birthday, matey!
I just hit PL tonight and it’s pretty sad listening to this song, I preordered this game two years ago and I was so exited to play it, I have gained and lost so many friends while playing sea of thieves, it is truly an amazing game, if you recently started you have a lot to look forward to.
All my friends ditched this game but I stayed since launched this game has evolved so much
I hit Pirate Legend yesterday and frankly I must say, it wasn't so much the glory of achieving it that made me happy.
Had the great fortune to meet another crew over the weekend who were newer to the game, and were willing to trust another pirate who happened to appear on their ship and ask "would you guys be interested in doing Glitterbeard?"
We bonded over the music, the beautiful atmosphere, and our desire for adventure.
Even considering all the songs outside of The Sea of Thieves, there couldn't be a better one to honour Glitterbeard
The game is beautiful but I will never be able to see this with as much beauty as I did when myself on a solo sloop was able to get a brig and a galleon to sail with me to honor james. No graphical update in this game will ever take that moment away from me. We'll never forget
My mom passed suddenly this year, I dreamt of me singing this to her. I miss you mom 🥲
Hope your doing okay man
Thats sad to hear...
I wish you the best and try focusing on your life, try to move on as soon as u can ❣️
i usually dont cry. but when i met SoT stuff ingame and all from the server did the secret glitter beard stuff at the tree together and the song began to play i cried so much. i love this game! i hope to see so much more content in the future. thank you for everything
This game has such a soul touching soundtrack, beautiful scenery, and moments with the lads that you can cherish forever
pretty good for a pirate game
I know I'm late but, this always makes me think about the "carry on the legend" quest. The memorial to a good friend of those who made sea of thieves who sadly passed. And each time I hear this it always plucks my heart strings a little 😅
well, best moment on sea of thieves so far
only true pirates will know

@@chrisssssssxx Without a doubt.
I don’t want to see this game die
This was always my favorite shanty to play in game because it has so much feeling and wonder, as if looking back on a long journey and remembering all the meetings and fun along the way. Honestly the best when sitting next to a fire at sunset with some friends playing it too.
Sometimes you just wanna watch the sunset on a beautiful horizon as this calming music plays in the background🥹
TheGreatReview, merci !
dude i just watched this after doing a huge voyage and i literally cried
This game is a masterpiece of game development. This game is a true credit to its developers.
Yesterday we did the Glitterbeard and it was SO awesome! Rare you did a great job working on that. All pirates should pay respects to Glitterbeard! (Jim)
it made me cry... its so beautiful
To this day, I still raise my drink to the words 'To Jim White, a brother I never knew but cherish all the same.'
