1999-2006 Sierra/ Silverado/Yukon/Suburban. Replacing A Fuel Tank Support Strap. ONLY ONE BOLT!

  • Just wanted to make a short video on an easy replacement of my fuel tank strap. This is a common problem in "the rust belt" if the USSA, where sodium chloride is used on the roads during the winter to liquefy snow and ice.
    What Model Year Truck:
    I'm fairly sure that the fuel strap replacement will be about the same for a wider range of truck model years than what's in the title, but 1999-2006 are the model years that I know are the same as my truck.
    Tools Needed:
    15mm Socket (6 point socket is recommended)
    3/8" ratchet
    12" extension bar
    Anti-rust solvent (PB Blaster/WD-40)
    hydraulic jack
    Possible additional tools:
    leverage bar
    impact wrench
    That bolt might be rusted worse on different trucks, which might cause a problem with extraction. If that's the case, pre-treating it with an anti-rust solvent and using a leveraging pipe or bar or an impact tool on a slow setting should torque it loose much easier.

    Nice catch and fix 👍, I've got an 06 and our tax dollars have not been fixing pot holes for one.......

      Yeah and that revenue comes from the fuel costs, so they're just robbing us

    Can't believe you were able to get the bolted end of the strap right up in there close enough to insert the bolt. The other videos show a different story whereby the bolted end of the strap does not even begin to reach close enough to the hole to get the bolt started.

      Man, I don't know what that was all about, but if the strap meets OEM specs, there shouldn't be any problem unless maybe something moved with the tank or an unseen obstruction came into play. This job really was way too easy... It took 4 times longer to video the thing lol

    Mine just broke on this past Saturday I just wonder if there’s so many of these breaking is anybody contacted General motors to see if there’s a recall on this I heard from someone at a parts store that this is pretty common and if one breaks the other one’s not far behind can you imagine if your gas tank hit the road on the expway that would be disaster

    • @ScottWConvid19
      @ScottWConvid19  Год назад

      It is common and I'm sure that has happened many times over. Idon't know if they ever did a recall, but I do know that GM puts small time and mileage limits on their recalls.
      I have a buddy who owns a 99. Same exact one. I think it's just located in the right spot to receive whatever calcium chloride gets past their splash guard... their splash guard is the antilock break unit.

      @@ScottWConvid19 My Tahoe is a 2011 it’s got 115,000 miles on it can you imagine the size of a recall that’s going to hit them

    Approximately how much time did it take to do that from start to finish

    • @ScottWConvid19
      @ScottWConvid19  Год назад

      Literally two minutes. It took longer to get the tools out and put them away than it did to change the strap. I did pre-spray the bolt before starting to work on it though

    I bet that is gonna cost more than 60 bucks at a shop here. Id say probably nearly 2x that. Crossing my fingers the bolt will come off that easy for me

    What size bolt is used to hold up the fuel tank? How would you go about finding that said bolt? Thank you for any help you can offer.

      15 mm head, but I don't know the bolt size. Any GM dealer parts department can tell you, just give them your vin.

    I received these kind words from Scott. Thank you for reminding me how horrible some people are.

    Criticism isn't usually very welcomed in modern culture. You seem to know what you're doing in mycology and microscopy. You seem to be a bit macrodosed (on something) in your videos, usually laughing when nothing is funny, very flightly in your monologs and you appear to want to show off your fruits more than you care to help anyone. 4:49 It IS possible and "learning how to use your microscope" is NOT the solution. Learning exactly what a monokaryon and a dikaryon LOOKS LIKE under a microscope, is what people want to know. I'm thinking that you may either be disinterested in making that video or just not motivated to do so, but to say it's not possible and claim that people need to learn how to use their microscope is not only untrue, but very deflective of you to even say. It would be much better to just say "I don't want to make those kind of videos, I just want to showcase my accomplishments" instead of brushing it off as impossible. You will attract the kind of followers that your content warrants and those that love learning and love sharing knowledge will be going elsewhere. Nutritional Brain food. Eat it or leave it

    @edwardgrand I have been searching out mycology videos RUclips suggested your videos. I looked at a few of them and quickly realized why you have so few subscribers for the amount of videos you published. I didn't think that you'd receive any constructive criticism because you're entire demeanor is apathetic. I was right"

    Bullshit not that easy

      @ScottWConvid19  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it was that easy. It took me longer to record the video than it took to replace the strap. One bolt.

      @@ScottWConvid19 it took me around 2 hours to get the straps on. I had to remove the tank to fix broken wires. So it wasn't as simple as removing and replacing. But thanks for the video.

      Then you didn't just replace a strap..., so my video is not "bullshit," but your op is.
