Xrd is the only game I’ve had an epileptic seizure while playing. No other Guilty Gear has that level of player expression.
Not even +R ?
my guy, plus R exists lol
Another PPL who don't play or not even feel +R feelbadman
totally Daisuke's vision
"buh buh buh plus r" shut upppppppp
GGXrd is the game that got me back into fighting games. The visual style, the animations, the amount of personality the characters have, even the story was enjoyable. And i know that for a lot of people this is not important, but it is for me.
Same here. I prefer a more developed fighting games not just the mechanic gameplay but more. And the characters' design are really cool too.
I'm not ultra-mega high level so I can't say all the nuances, but for me XRD is one of the best feeling fighting game's I've ever played. Everything feels so responsive and it's so free-flowing. All of my favorite fighting games have some of that in them, I don't like being restricted to specific combo routes nearly as much.
Guilty Gear players need to understand that at least they got Strive, Blazblue players got Cross Tag
It's funny to me how everyone was saying Xrd was dogshit and that it would never *ever* replace +R. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Every community is that way
The only time a fg's community was right about the immediate criticism to the newest game was the KoF community about KoF 14
@@carlosaugusto9821 agree, but don't get me wrong alot of newplayer play KOF 14 as their first entry in the franchise
"Everyone"
@@carlosaugusto9821 14 wasn't bad though, just ugly
Honestly surprised Jiyuna didn't show the clip of him beating Omito into the P4U shorts
I still play Xrd because Bedman and Raven are super fun to play, even though the ps4 Xrd community is kinda dead.
Putting aside gameplay and everything, can I say it? Is this a hot boomer take? Pre-Strive's instrumental tracks > Strive's samey sounding vocal tracks
Strive ost is hot garbage outside of like 3 characters. Idk how anybody could unironically call this games ost a masterpiece. They should've stuck with instrumentals
I definitely prefer old music.
@@crunk7833 for real. Jack-O had the worst downgrade out of all of 'em imo. Listened to her Strive theme once and I questioned why this song is even in a Guilty Gear game. A total embarrassment compared to Juno
Bro I thought I was crazy 🤣 there’s very FEW vocal tracks I actually like, most of them are kinda ass
I miss the instrumentals fr
I hope they make a instrumental version one day but I doubt Daisuke will do that
The boomerest of boomer takes especially when Xrd has shit like Birthday Train
+R is the best Guilty Gear game but if Xrd had rollback it would be the best.
Agreed
Even without rollback I still think Xrd is the funnest game to play online lmao, if it got rollback it wouldn’t even be close
@@NeoBoneGirl fully agreed
Xrd doesn't have Testament and Zappa so that instantly puts it like 100 miles ahead of +R, just need rollback
@@Bweigelt13 you've fought Testament and Zappa maybe 3 or 4 times at most
there was a fucking "safe space to hate on strive" thread on twitter recently, let that sink in lmao
To be fair, when a new game comes out a lot of criticizers gets absolutely mauled by the new playerbase.
That thread was awesome
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 Remember when xrd was a bad game all of a sudden when Strive just came out.
That also would happen if +R players had the same opportunity when XRD first came out, be real
@@Sg6CrossOver true but it wasnt XRD at the time, it was Sign, and Sign was shit
I bought rev2 to check out the characters before strive release, as it was gonna me my first time really trying a fighting game (outside of smash). Since then I've never stopped playing either. Maybe it's a new player thing but theres so much to do and learn in both games and the way some knowledge translates from one to the other is a very satisfying experience 🙂🙂

@@ultimatederp5069 it's not a fighting game in any regard really
@@goby1764 2022 and STILL arguing about Smash
I discovered traditional fighters through seeing them at tournaments that featured melee, one of my favorite games. SFV was my first introduction to them and after 500 hours I nearly put down 2d fighters for good... SFV nearly ruined them for me when the novelty of learning fundamentals wore off. Then I found Rev2. I was already so late to the party that most people weren't playing it a lot and the netcode wasn't great and many nights there just weren't any EC rooms with suitable connections, but damn did I love the games I did get and the time spent in the training mode. Rev2 introduced me to my favorite character ever, Slayer.
I don't dislike Strive but ever since BBCF got rollback and I tried it, all I've really ever wanted was to play the GG I really do love and sorely miss. Learning BBCF has reminded me about all the things I liked I Rev.; something about the longer combos/blockstrings, quicker knockdowns > following sequences, and snappier animations that just make them game feel fast and entertaining to both watch and play. Rev2 was a great mix of esoteric anime fighter with just the right amount of accessibility. Not too easy to push away too many people that are used to the older, harder games, but also hard enough that it doesn't feel like a "street fighter" version of itself where the characters feel less snappy and look bigger on the screen with their chunkier animations and closer camera (or where some characters had to see major changes to fit the new style... I went back before strive came out to play +R and was an Anji player... ouch)
It's been a while since I've looked at some Rev2 content and man... What a great game. I really do wish I liked Strive as much; I just don't. Thanks for posting this Jiyuna, I am going to go watch the rest of that top 8 now.
Play sf4 too
@@RunehearthCL I did go back and try it! So much better than 5... Why did they do what they did to Juri? :(
I really like Elphelt, but I understand that a lot of other players don't. Still, I prefer this more colorful and crazy animé style for Guilty Gear over the mature palette of Strive. Same goes for gameplay: the less a combo system restricts what you can do, the more I like it. BlazBlue and GGX2 are still king on that aspect, but I can still just try whatever in Rev2 and get a combo out of it if I'm quick enough... which I'm often not, but I can handle being bad better than being held back.
I recently bought xrd2 as I wanted to experience the gameplay before moving to strive and I must say, THIS GAME IS ADDICTING. Great mechanics, movement and the ability to be creative with your combos. Can’t say much about strive but can definitely say xrd2 is a gem.
The internet told me this is the greatest fighting game of all time and the greatest thing since sliced bread so I'll agree
Na it's the truth I'm new to guilty gear and I had way more fun in xrd than strive.
shame you can't play the game online :/
Smart man
That’s +R
@@iorilamia Nah, thats Third strike according to everyone.
As many have pointed out from threads, Mystic just kept getting better and better every tournament. It was kinda crazy
GGXrd was the first anime fighting game I took seriously. The impact and visual style of the game left an addiction I had to quench. Every character having over the top mechanics/special moves making each new match up I saw feel like a completely different game. I can watch the Xrd major tournaments over and over again an still see new things cause there is so much happening. Kizzy vs Deb got me into GG as a whole but it pains me to think I'm never gonna see matches as hype as let's say Daymendo vs. GcYoshi
Xrd is a nice middle ground between PlusR and Strive - not too heavily riddent with system mechanics, but not too simple on character's kits. And somehow it's the best looking game to me out of the three, easily surpassing Strive, which has an overly polished and 3D look, wonky camera movements and somehow less effective character expressiveness.
That's a shitass take if I've ever seen one.
@@ChocolateBar999 no he is right. It's a perfectly nice middleground.
Sadly the netcode is the worst of the three.
@@ChocolateBar999 no he's right
I agree, but strive looks amazing one of the best looking fighting games out right now
For casual player view. Having Instant Kill moves making better game imo.
@SNES Nes Those are super moves. It is like Mortal Kombat fatalities but differense is it is avaible during gameplay. Even better than fatalities for gameplay.
YES
I believe they might come later. That's not a cool idea. But well, that's modern fg companies for you...
for new players, not having to block a string of 20+ hit with potential mixup is better
@SNES Nes he said the opposite. That instakills are better for casuals.
Mystic was movin so much he was makin Rev 2 look like DBFZ
The answer is yes. The video you showed proves this. The speed and crazy shit was hype!
Yeah, Rev2 is still a great game. People should hold on to both games, Strive and Rev2. The gameplay experience is different but it's definitely a guilty gear game that people should switch to back n forth anytime. Strive and Rev2 should move forward together now.
Fuc strive, if you played xrd it has way more freedom in gameplay. Strive literally only looks better and has rollback, THATS IT
No plusR are better than both
I like how the comment promotes unity, while the replies are exactly why we aren't getting it
@@hoohah5067 pretty much 🤣
@@hoohah5067 u ain't lyin😆
After watching this, I feel like it would be awesome to see you watch more matches from recent or old clips from Blazblue, Melty Blood, P4 Arena, BBTag etc.
But of course, with your own choices...
Hopefully Rev2 or Rev3 if that ever happens gets rollback. +R had a nice boom from it and even if +R died down its still nice to be able to hop on games with good netplay. At best with fiber i can get a stable 1-2f with people but not averagely which is a pretty bad 4-5f with fluctuations. I know they claim there are issues but i feel like its possible. Just let fans go it like +R/2k2UM they will probably figure out the 3d/Unreal issue if its actually significant.
The best guilty gear is x-2 reload because that was the first one I played
“Did anyone challenge [Mystic]?
PattheFlip was the only person in the Top 24 that got a game on him. Mystic steamrolled Hotashi, a Jam Player, and Vevion. I was hoping Kizzie would get a shot because he normally plays well against Mystic, but Kizzie got sent to losers by Vevion, I think, and had to run the gauntlet against Elis. He beat Hotashi, Lostsoul, but lost to Vevion.
But yeah, Mystic has been training with Hotashi so he knew how to play Eliphelt.
2 billion X more hype than strive
Waiting for the xrd3 to happen
Xrd, best waifu game? it has statues, oh, it has OST and a fighting game. for real
Considering I just started playing Gulity gear with Strive, I kinda wanna get Xrd rev2 in order to really get a feel of how different Xrd Baiken is from Strive Baiken. Cause she looks like she has WAY more options than she does in Strive.
Every character is a lot stronger in xrd lol
Baiken's best iteration in my opinion is in +R, you should try that one before Xrd, mainly because it has rollback
Every Character has way more options in any game, Strive took a lot from everyone.
That's pretty much every character in Xrd, Strive characters are universally weaker due to nerfs on gatling routes, frame advantage, and jump cancel options
@@jonnysac77 no shes ugly and people will avoid fighting you if you play baiken in +r, xrd baiken is a lot cooler visually and gameplay wise
Having went back to ACR & Rev2 every now and then, both of them along with Strive have their own merits:
ACR has Force Breaks (EX specials), but FRCs and Slashbacks plus the large character movelists are what makes it highly technical. It’s peak classic GG and I’m still fond of it to this day.
Rev2 has a more lenient RC system, Blitz Attacks and Burst Supers with the characters going off from their Reload selves as a base but it also had Danger Time of all things. It’s definitely toned down compared to AC+, but still the most intuitive of the 3.
And while Strive feels a lot more “restrictive”... it actually min-maxes everything from gatlings and movesets (depending on the character, it could be a benefit or a detriment) to a more easily digestible form while still adding some new stuff such as Wall Breaks, though the Gatling changes is and always will be a mistake. (though that’s more of a matter of muscle memory)
All 3 are also a product of their respective eras and let’s just leave it at that.
It just depends on you level of commitment to fighting games. If you want to put 500 hours into a game and still be absolutely terrible, play Xrd. If you want to put 50 hours into a game and be able to get the gist of your character and the game around it fairly easily, then play Strive. I guess that isn't fair, because you will still be terrible compared to someone who put 500 hours into the game, the difference is, it is easier to learn the ins and outs of your character and get to a state where you are losing because you don't have the experience, not necessarily because you physically can't do the good stuff.
It saddens me to say, but that is my experience. Been playing Xrd since sign and never really got to the fun stuff. I am ABSOLUTELY a casual player, do not get it twisted. I like to play a lot of different games, from FPS games to JRPGs and I put a lot of time into something in bursts. Xrd for example I put in 100 or so hours every time I pick it up whether it's a new version of the game or a good set in a tournament gave me the itch to play again (of course I watch all the big FG tournaments if I'm aware of them). I played May, so a fairly easy character. I just could never develop the muscle memory to do anything significant. Even the easy stuff like basic BnBs and dolphin Oki where inconsistent sometimes for me, I could do it 20 times in a row in training mode, but different ranges and characters and stuff just made it way harder to do in actual matches consistently.
Basically the biggest complaint I have with my Xrd experience is that I never got to the part where I'm playing an actual opponent. I'm constantly just wrestling with my mechanics, so most of my mental energy was on execution rather than what my opponent was doing and what options they were going for. I never really got to the point where I was looking to beat certain options or seeing what my opponent was doing and adjusting my play accordingly. Btw, I definitely have more than 500 hours in Xrd, hard to say because I played the PS4 version for most of my time, but I put 100+ hours into Xrd last year alone on PC before Strive released (mostly training mode, player matches and streamer lobbies).
I will say again, I am 100% a bonafide casual player. I don't drink, sweat and bleed fighting games. Strive was made for casual players, which is why I love it so much. I don't just play May either, I also play Ky and Leo. I'm not as good or comfortable with them as I am with May, but I can pull out the swag with them in actual matches when I want to. I don't know, basically it's just easier to get to the different layers of the game in Strive. I don't care about combos from a hard perspective, I just want to play the chess that is fighting games and look good doing it.
XRD series got me into the FGC as a whole. Call me a baby but XRD games are my most played fighting games and will forever be the absolute GOAT to me. Damn, crazy that -Sign- is turning 8 years old this year.
Waiting for the inevitable Xrd steam comment review video.
6:15 I mean, parts of her kit are more defensive in nature and some (most) players aren't good at defense. That and tiger knee yosanzen wasn't easy to do when it was a shoryuken motion.
Of course xrd is amazing. Who can forget yrc, pre-patch Raven and blitz shield?
Dont forget Sign 1.0 Ramlethal, Xrd Sign to Rev 1.0 Sin, no throw techs and proximity OS!
Xrd had a rocky start but the base to build on it was strong. That being said pre patch ram, every iteration of elphelt and raven were some of the dumbest things I’ve ever experienced in a fighting game.
@@MrCowman57 give it time ppl will be saying similar things about Sol, Nago, and Happy Chaos
@@MrCowman57 yeah agreed, it turned into a great game, and I think strive has plenty of time to develop as well. And agreed on the characters lmao
I don't know if it's the best, but it's the top 3 fav game to watch for tournaments.
As a new guilty gear player (who isnt good), so far I've tried strive, xrd, and acc + r, and accent core is my favourite. I would be able to get into xrd more if the netcode wasnt delay based (or if i didnt have shitass internet), but pretty much all of my friends like accent core the most as well. I don't know enough about the game to analyse why I like it the most, so this is just an opinion I have with no real reasoning behind it.
Baiken can guard cancel into her parry in this game, but it only lasts one frame (I think)
They’re both great and both fun in their owns, but I prefer the gameplay of Xrd
I wonder man, if some fighting games released their source code how long it would take for fans to implement some crazy improvements like rollback
2:12 that’s not her parry it’s her half circle back k, it has some kind of guard point on the dash part of the move but it becomes vulnerable when she cancels into sny of the followups
Also the parry is high low so you do have to be careful with it, it has counter hit recovery too and the inputs for the follow ups are surprisingly hard to time unless you have a good understanding of your opponent’s moves and timings. She for some reason she doesn’t have all the normal gatlings so she feels super awkward to pick up not to mention her combos are really weird
I remember how I got into xrd. I was looking up dbz and I kept hearing “the same ppl who made guilty gear are making dbz” and the first match I watched was tomo (Leo) vs omito (Johnny) and was hooked. Brought xrd and became a Sin main.
It’s hard not to love Xrd with all the Easter eggs it has
Guilty Gear series in general has always felt like some crackhead energy to me, but I love that
As Ram player since sign,YES,ABSOLUTE YES。I like the feel「Same character same goal but approach differently」,Takehara's Ram deployed sword messed people up,my Ram just all in like gorilla mixup for life, strive just....do same thing,I still can create thing, but the game feel forcing my stuff。
Just add ggpo to xrd already. The netcode is holding the game back. For real, for real.
I am 33 seconds in, but before I continue I feel like I should say this, just to see if this plays in to the video.
I watched this top 8 a day or two after it dropped on YT. After I saw the Mystic played Baiken in the first set, I immediately thought to myself "I gotta learn some Baiken she seems so fun"
For the last few days I've been labbing her and playing with friends and it has been awesome. I am one of the people who didn't really like Strive, so I'm interested in seeing where this video goes.
Rev2 is my favorite GG. I don't mind Strive, but if a Rev3 came out, I would play nothing but that.
All I know is if this game gets rollback i'm never touching strive again.
The big sign that says [ IT ALL COMES DOWN TO PERSONAL PREFERENCE ] goes here
Personally, I like both +R and Rev 2, though I haven't played Strive, feel like I might enjoy the game, though my PC's wack
Out of both of them, I prefer Xrd's characters and how freeing the Roman Cancel system feels compared to +R, but _man_ nothing hit the dopamine rush of a good ol Sidewinder loop
Both games are great, and the choice of best GG goes down to what you value and what you don't.
tl;dr the best game is overture
I didn’t get into GG until strive was announced but rev2 is infinitely more fun than strive lol
Also I’m pretty sure mystic was pretty well known for Baiken play around like 2018
So much more fun nobody played it then and still don't play it now
@@ChocolateBar999 a lot of people played back then and still do now, it was just a game that was semi niche due to a barrier to entry and poor marketing. Also lack of rollback hurts.
@@WnderBoyxYungNstyMan and because arc sys made this one game about this very popular anime and it kinda made everyone shift their eyes to strive whenever that got announced
My first one was Strive, and that's the one I'm focusing on right now, but Xrd is really friggin' cool.
Guilty gear Xrd REV2 taught me to play fighting games, and I believe its just as good as a starter game as strive is
people really overexaggerate how hard that game is, like it really isn't that hard
Gonna have to disagree on that one (and I really prefer Xrd over Strive). I found played the Strive beta before finding REV 2, and I’ve gotta say it was way easier to get started on Strive than it was on Xrd. I actually changed mains to learn the game and still gave up on Xrd on the first time cause it was way too hard to have any idea what I was doing.
Agreed. I know plenty of people who got into the series with Xrd and had a great time the whole way through. Funnily enough the less restricted gatling system of Xrd actually makes the game more inviting for some.
It that was the case then it wouldn't have flopped.
@@ChocolateBar999 Rev mainly "flopped" because Arcsys didn't advertise the game, at least to the same level as Strive. They could've kept the same gameplay style in Strive and made money off of graphics alone
Is Xrd Actually The Best Guilty Gear Game?
Yes
Rev 2 is the best. Bs stuff thats busted doesnt make it any less good. Imo its about how much the fun makes up for the bs and how fun the bs is to do. Strive still has some bs and its just more boring. I know its a good game, but god i get bored of it. I had alot of fun playing baiken but like every character a week or 2 later im bored. Not because the characters i love some of the new mechanics but the games general design is what i dont like. But thats just how i feel.
Drift RC is the only saving grace from Strive.
Some features that were scaled back were good (variable wakeup timings, dedicated Throw input, Throwable DPs, YRC, IBFD, no tech buttons).
But a lot of features are just too much scaled back. (Damage Scaling, Airdash system, Limited Gatlings, Unable to block at low air heights, Instant Block window, keeping RISC of all things).
Strive needs a few system mechanic adjustments to make it truly enjoyable on par with past entries. As of right now, Strive is just the current game in the tournament circuit.
AGREED
I started my gg Journey on strive, but I got to pick this game up this version of biken looks fun as hell.
does someone still play this or rev2?
Baiken actually can still guard cancel into azami stance in this
I don't know if it's better than GGS or not, but it's definitely more fun to watch.
Should’ve title it “ Is baiken the future(or savior) of REV2 ?!”
Mystic and HypedForSlicedBread are two Baikens that are kinda dominating the NA Xrd scene rn
Nerf Baiken
Strive is a fun game but personally I definitely prefer xrd. I like +r too but like goddamn that game is a little TOO crazy for me, I gotta take a break after like 20 games or my brain like wont process whats happening on my screen anymore. Xrd is the perfect middleground from the absurdity of +r and the simplicity of strive, for me.
Yes. +R is really good, but for me xrd has it all... Except for rollback netcode. Strive bores me pretty quick, it really does feel like SFV, strike/throw. :/
That was a fun match to watch Mystic was on his A game.
I like both Xrd and Strive. Strive i like because i can sit back relax and Enjoy because of the simplicity and Fun. Xrd i like because my Girl Jam is in it which is why till this day i still bust out xrd once in a while just to practice her. Just wish Jam and Bridget make it in Strive someday.
I wish we had an xrd that looked like strive. Without the ui obviously.
I still think XX/MC was more exciting to watch & play bc you had all kinds of FG players playing it, evo 2003 was such a fun event bc of it. XX will always have that nostalgia feel of old 2D games, like 3S before IV, it’s not “perfect” but it’s also not overly designed to the point where the player is constricted by its rules. Xrd might be the more polished-balanced game with more characters, but I don’t necessarily think that makes it the best game.
Listen. I heard Elphelt in the beginning of the video, and if I don’t see some Lost Soul I’m going to be pissed.

gimme dat up kabari daisuke, i need it
I do love it but to beginners it can be rough so I understand both arguments strive is undeniably super fun though
i love GG as a whole, i follow the saga since ps1 when i stumbled the first game by accident and was a weird mix between MvC with KoF visual (?) (at least to my 9 years old me, fun af tho) the mayor problem i have with all the games before strive is simply the fact im from LATAM, so Xrd to me is such a beautiful and fun game but literally unplayable without roll back, not a single soul know what that hecks is guilty gear this side of the globe, so not matches neither people to play with, the only fg that have some kind of very niche audience here are KoF, street fighter and maybe tekken, so even if i feel like playing Xrd specially after finally manage to play an GG game online consistently (Strive) and finally managed to grind and experiment the game socially, Xrd is simply unplayable online here rn
Not a lot of Answer players either, wonder if he's got some hidden sauce
The one thing I hated about xrd is HS forward/back is grab. I know its the usual for most guilty gear games but that is just WHUACK
It’s annoying at first but you get used to it.
I can't believe the tatami mat is Baiken's... thing. Like "is this samurai lady Japanese enough? Naaa tatami mats, that's the Japanese legacy."
Strive (and Baiken) is the first time I'm seeing a new game come out and building expectations based off of mechanics, instead of just the memes.
They should just remake Xrd rev2 with rollback and Strive+ gfx.
I'm having more fun to watching Xrd gameplay than Strive that's for sure.
Mystic is a South Florida OG
The only fighting game i havent been able to pop my cherry in online.
Honestly, if the game gets a rollback patch it’s bound to explode again
Everyone will play Leo.

Love xrd. So much freeform.
Never thought in a million years i would I see a gg game with sf pacing. I tried to get into strive but can't. Imo the only thing guilty gear in Stirve are a few characters and Roman cancel smh other than that it's very stripped down from xrd its low key annoying wall break annoying no gatlings annoying even the menus look bare minimal lazy VS screen with a bald eagle flying annoying.....I really wish Giovanna was in xrd lol. Great video!
>SF pacing
Seems you've played neither
