  • This is the Analogman King of Tone Overdrive & Distortion Pedal. It's one of the most hyped pedals on the internet for electric guitar players.
    Check out the official site - www.analogman.... (worst website design of all time btw).

    I’ve got a box of overdrives I don’t use anymore. The King Of Tone has replaced them all except a tube screamer that I keep on my board to get a completely different flavor. They compliment each other very well and I run the boost side of the KOT with the tube screamer to make a great saturated tone. For those who aren’t aware, both sides of the KOT can be set to either boost, overdrive, or distortion by simply changing dip switches inside the pedal. I’m not sure why this important fact isn’t mentioned often in reviews. I run the left side as a boost and the right as an overdrive and had Analogman install the higher gain chip in the right side. It is a factory option. In front of my Marshall 1962HW it sounds incredible.

      The point of the video is what the pedal sounds like, not choice of words. His presentation does offer a good idea of what the pedal sounds like. A better choice of words would be something like 'reference tone.' BTW - that's a very seriously good pedal (much better than most).

  • @wstarkel

    I've got one and I'm really happy with it. Worth the original cost ($235) and wait time, which is less than a year now, but not worth $350+ from eBay. Certainly not cheap, but when you factor in that it is two high quality pedals in one box, its not so bad.
    Clean boost is my favorite setting, as it really adds a nice quality to the tone without adding gain and stacks wonderfully with both the OD/dist side of the KoT and a Muff clone that I have.
    Thanks for another good demo. Cheers!

    I had a Prince of Tone. It was a really good pedal...But i remember not being able to tame the highs on it. It had a really piercing high end in many settings. I ultimately sold it. It never ends..

  • @bsullivan7
    @bsullivan7 10 лет назад +5

    Analog Man also has the "Prince of Tone" box which has 1 channel, all the same controls, but includes a switch on the front to select between Overdrive, Boost, and Distortion. It is quieter, has more volume output, is half the size, and sells for $138. My opionion is that although it only has one channel, it performs better than the "King of Tone" for less than half the price. I own both boxes.

    All Clon clones sound bad until you hear an "original" clon pedal and realize that even that sucked :)
    Having said that I think this pedal is a "fine pedal" its just that the high end frequencies in this demo were a bit harsh.. probably due to the mike settings or something. The sensitivity of the pedal seems to be cool though.... Thank you for another fine Demo

    • @brandonwiggers6449
      @brandonwiggers6449 9 лет назад +2

      He had the tone dimed on a lot of the demo, that might be why the high end is kind of harsh. Although, I agree. The sensitivity response is beautiful.

    That Tone knob at max though....

    • @JohnShalamskas
      @JohnShalamskas 6 лет назад +1

      This pedal is highly configurable. There are internal trimmer pots to add more treble on each side, to compensate for a dark guitar or amp. There are DIP switches to choose the clipping mode on each side: clean, overdrive, or distortion. The op amps are socketed, so you can experiment with different op amps to get the distortion sound you like, and you can run at 18V for extra volume and headroom (V4 model). I run mine at "clean boost" in both sides, using a JRC4580 op amp in the red channel, and an OP2134 in the yellow channel, at 18V. You can get more distortion by cranking up the volume in red channel and driving the yellow channel with it, or using another pedal to push the red or yellow channel into breakup. Most demos don't bother to push the yellow channel much into overdrive territory, because it has the same type of op amp as the red channel, so it sounds similar to cranking the gain on red channel. That's why I changed the op amp in the yellow channel, to get a different tone when overdriving the yellow channel.

    I was disappointed of the demo. I think you should have focus on the pedal and exercise the dials, you had the distortion full up for some time. I got the just in1 minute what the sound was full up. I wanted to know what the pedal was capable interns of tone.

    Any guitar player who doesn't get on the wait list for a King of Tone needs their head read. When your number comes up, get one, and if you don't like it, sell it on for three times what you paid or more. I'm 6 months away. I'll be getting the maximum (four). One to play, two to sell to get the purchase price back, and one to keep as an investment. When Mike stops making them, they'll be worth more than Klons

    • @shawnglass108
      @shawnglass108 5 лет назад

      You can only get one at a time. I’m on the waiting list to get my second one. You can get 4 total but you have to get on the waiting list 4 times to get them.

    • @shawnglass108

      and they do that for obvious reasons. So hustlers don’t just buy them to sell and make money. Analogman could charge a lot more. Thankfully they don’t. So they’ve gotta have rules for buying them to keep the hustlers away.

    Is it worth all the hype? I don't know. Probably not. But the hype isn't the fault of the guys who are making the pedal. This is our economy at work. It's worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. It sounds pretty damn good to me but I've got plenty of awesome OD distortion boxes.
