About Fellow Travelers: Created by Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia, Homeland), based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, FELLOW TRAVELERS is an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the volatile romance of two very different men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Matt Bomer plays handsome, charismatic Hawkins Fuller, who maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the scenes career in politics. Hawkins avoids emotional entanglements - until he meets Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history.
Over the course of four decades, we follow our five main characters -- Hawk, Tim, Marcus (Jelani Alladin), Lucy (Allison Williams), and Frankie (Noah J. Ricketts) - as they cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.
Nyswaner and Bomer executive produce with Robbie Rogers (All American, My Policeman). Daniel Minahan (Halston, American Crime Story: Versace) executive produces and directs the first two episodes. Co-produced by Fremantle with SHOWTIME, FELLOW TRAVELERS was produced in Toronto.

Allison played Lucy remarkably well, making it easy to feel sorry for her, during the more heartbreaking scenes.

In Thomas Mallon's novel on which this 8-part limited series is based, Lucy is a shadowy background figure (and their son Jackson doesn't exist). Among the many great changes that Ron Nyswaner made in expanding the book is making Lucy a far more present figure in the story, and Allison Williams really seizes her opportunities to give us a very human portrait.

Man, Lucy is a great actress. She helped make the show what it was. Congrats to her.

If you look closely at Lucy's makeup, you can see that her makeup was thicker when she met Hawk than when she met Tim at the hospital in the 80s. Ever since I saw the designer's interview, I know why. Lucy didn't want to show how broken her heart was. Defense. It was probably her choice from the moment she burned the letter Tim wrote, but I can't help but feel sorry for Lucy.

I adore Allison Williams… she is fantastic in her role. As much as I like Hawk, and can identify with him as a gay man, I struggle to forgive him for how he hurt Lucy by splitting his affections between Tim and she. It was completely unfair, even though it was a necessity of the time. (Btw, love the Chanel suit; my mother wore an almost identical one and spectator heels, with a hat and smaller purse, to my college graduation in 1992 - I flashed back 30 years when I saw that scene!)

Every day is a confirmation that people who seem extra kind and supportive are likely to be hiding something. It's so upsetting the way Hawk was with Lucy when she was telling him about the men she met in Madrid. And then he took that and used it to make himself look better by literally destroying Leonard's life. Yeah we all do what we need to survive blablabla but this was just evil. You can find ways to save yourself by not throwing others under the bus especially when you, out of all people, should be standing up for your own kind. Good grief this man is despicable.

Question was this brother in book? Or just throw in the TV version? She never realized until now that Brother was one and maybe she talk to him to accept whom he likes?.

Also in 1951 in Washington, DC., Jacqueline Bouvier (former Debutante of the year 1947) went to a cocktail party and met senator john fitzgerald kennedy. her mother janet warned her about how dangerous the kennedy men were but she didn't listen.

She expected and knew early on Hawk was “elsewhere “..
Women back then ignored and tolerated infidelity. Nothing was worse and less acceptable than divorce.😢
Hawk’s true love was Skippy !!❤

Yes! That's something that Alma had to deal with in Brokeback Mountain and something that Flora knew in Man In An Orange Shirt. What a 180% performance from Girls and to know her Father went from being a successful celebrated journalist to a disgraced one like Matt Lauer. I'm sure alot of Women back in the day and even today deal with this. I would love for there to be a prequel to Carol where you see the relationship with Carol Aird and Abby Gerhard.

I see alot of Cigarette Smoking like on Mad Men. Someone asked why women smoked so much and I explained it was a form of independence. Also alot of Chick Lit Authors smoked cigarettes when they worked. Patricia Highsmith, Mary McCarthy, Rona Jaffe were prime examples.

Letters are also synonomous in LGBT Culture. In the webseries Venice, Gina Brogno writes a love letter to her true love, Ani Martin, but she doesn't mail it. Her Father does and it's intercepted by Ani's New Girlfriend Lara. Michael Berryman writes a love letter to his true love Thomas March but he never mails in and his Grandson Adam gets it many years later. Where there any Emmy Nominations for this show.

Tim should realize that in those days (and sadly enough even today) you are treated like a pariah. She would have lost her place in society, her friends would drop her, and Hawkins would come out scot free.

By today's standards, Hawkins Cabin would be a "He Shed". Also in the Miniseries Celebrity, Jeffrey Crawford the son of Superstar MacKenzie "Mac" Crawford, saw his Father and his Assitant together This was in 1975 and afterwards, Mac wasn't allowed to see his son for several years only to find out he was part of a religious organization run by his former classmate Thomas Jeremiah Luther (Class Of 1950). I loved how they played Sam & Dave.

The outfit that Lucy is wearing when she visits Tim is similar to the one that Patricia Wettig wore in Lackawanna Blues when Rachel Crosby aka "nanny" took her daughter crystal and her children back to toronto, ontario to escape a violent marriage. Lucy was smart to leave. What about "Desire", that was so heavy and true and alot of women identify with that. In another book called City Girl, a woman named Caroline was married to a Man named Richard but he never showed any interest in her needing to see Charles his associate.

I find that Lucy was kinda of GREEDY 😂 she wanted ALL OF IT! THE desire that and romantic love he had for Tim. She had home and title and children too.

She delivered Kimberly. Without someone who loves hawk, he probably already died Killing himself. We can't live without love.
Lucy attracted to Hawk, hawks tied to Lucy. Lucy wants family but hawk didn't love her nor respect her. But at least she delivered Kimberly to the world that loves his Daddy when Tim dies.
