I worked in Arnhem Land about the time you were born....10 years installing and looking after phones in all of the communities ....great job. Worked for Telstra in Nhullunbuy, Groote Eylandt, Elcho Island (actually installed the first telephones on the island when all they had was HF radio), Ramingining and all of the communities in Arnhem Land. Then switched to Jabiru and worked all of the other side of Arnhem Land - Maningrida, Oenpelli, Wurruwi, Minjilang, etc. Loved the lifestyle of both work and leisure.......Gods country. To drive from Katherine to Gove was mostly not possible for approx. 9 months of the year, so most things where either barged in (VB Perkins) or flown in (by Ansett)....The Bullman track (I think it was called) was nearly all bulldust and even 4WD's without anything behind them struggled to get through. The town dentist (at the time) and myself were the two that built the dirt go-kart track near the speedway.....well we designed it all, and the mining company provided all of the heavy equipment and operators to build it - the Scraper driver drove like he was in a go-kart, absolute gem of an operator.
I have lived in EAL for 37 years now. Would never want to live anywhere else. Thank you so much for your video, reminded me how lucky my family are to live here.
That Mud Crab and rice dish is fit for a King and his Ransom. Best I've ever seen and well and truly a 5 star meal better than any Restaurant mate. Well Done Legend.
I grew up in this area. It is definitely beautiful scenery and this footage brings back great memories of the lifestyle of Nhulunbuy Gove NT Certainly well filmed and created
Love ur work guys I really miss seeing u guys on the road each week U guys have inspired me to do a lap and have got myself an 09 chopped 200 for my adventures with my wife I can’t wait thanks for sharing and inspiring ❤ Happy new year u guys
Funny, all these years I though that part of the top end was closed off as traditional land, and that the furthest east you could go was places like Kakadu (where I've been) and Jabaru. Thanks for the heads up and fascinating video.
You also need drone to see conditions of the dirt ahead of you and your wife can operate it while you are driving to filming you traveling from above.Just something to edit into your videos
Thanks for the trip. I lived in Gove for 25 years 1980-2005 worked at the Walkabout for 4 and 21 years at the plant, a few things have changed in Gove tourist wise looking at your vid. Iv'e got to get back there as i loved it. i was in the game fishing club so got to see a lot of the area by sea, thanks again
Absolutely epic. I am now convinced you guys live in paradise (the whole of Aus). Such an amazing country. Well done Bec on that fish! Wow. Hopefully one day I will travel Aus. Happy new year
Absolutely amazing. After seeing this. We are definitely heading to Arnhemland. Especially when the have a Woolies. If I forget something it’s going to be okay after all 😂
Every trip into Arnhem Land I used to go past a place called Emu Springs (hot water spring near Ramingining, not available to most unless you have a permit to work in Arnhem Land) always got out for a dip.......until I flew over it in a chopper once (how I went to work in the Wet Season, as the passenger only)...1km upstream from the hot spring was Arafura Swap and I saw so many crocodiles sliding into the swap when we hovered....never went for my dip ever again. Apparently crocs wont go into the hot spring so I was safe.....but I was not going to chance it anymore.
@@TripInAVan really enjoying your video....thanks for bringing back the memories mate. Unfortunately I don't think Nhulunbuy is much longer, once the mine actually shuts down the infrastructure (shops, etc) will be hard to maintain on tourists $$$ alone.
Hi guys.been watching your videos for a few years, your trips just amazing..hope you continue to travel and document them and your permanent base...all the best for the new year..Lee from UK 🤙
Hey Justin and Family, First of all, Happy New Year! I hope this year will be a corker for ya! lol Anyways moving on, what a great vid hey, mate, i gotta say we love your work! Very useful and great tips. Fav parts in the vid is Dinner time! I know what its like having sentimental value about where you where born, (love the kid photos bro! hee hee) My wife Bec (Same name also) has too have sentimental values about her land and where she and her people where born. I've learnt alot about her culture and i must say i love it! Oh by the way did you end out getting a boat cover for boat? i hope you have goodnews about that. Any who back to the rest of the day and have a good one! Oops! I forgot to mention my wife is part of the Darug nation!
Great idea to compress this trip. Although I probably saved the original video have saved this as well for the next time we manage to go North. Not an easy feat from Melbourne... Cheers and thanks team
Hi Justin & Bec Happy New Year to you all, that was an other great video, love all your trips, thanks for sharing, here to another good year of travels to you all, and for us to watch, Cheers Anna.
Can I say Bec that your grooming is impeccable. From your brows to your skin and makeup. Polished nails and cool clothes. Sorry not sure this is appropriate but I wanted you to know your effort is appreciated. Lynda (not some creepy guy).
So appreciative of you guys that vlog your adventures. It makes planning our trip so much easier. It’s daunting planning a big adventure and trying to plan a trip and not miss out some awesome places is a bit stressful!! These vids help so much. Thank you guys and all the other people documenting their travels , it makes my planning so much easier and I’m more confident that the places I choose to stop at are going to be amazing. Thank you .
Another epic video guys, thanks beyond words. We've got to get to the East Arnham area, been to Kakadu and surrounds back in the day but not Arnham land. You probably told us but I missed it ... what time of year did you go there?
hi jason / bec love the videos one question is do you leave the coffee machine on the bench or take it down ,if you do leave it did you fix it down to the bench / screw it or sika it thanks..
We are travelling to Nhulunbuy early June. My question is, google Maps quote very long travel times a total of 23 hrs 730 kms is this an over kill. From your Video we are leaving Bitter springs to Mainoru then to Flat rock onto Nhulunbuy
Bauxite is refined else where because Alcoa Executive, she shall remain nameless, could not complete a gas sales agreement at very amenable gas prices. Which would see Gove still running.
What a great video of your time up in Arnham Land. Sadly we didn't make it up that far when we did out trip around Australia. We are now settled back home in Rotorua New Zealand and always look forward to your installment. Best wishes to you all from Rotorua
